Italy Legend Andrea Pirlo Announces Retirement From Football

It’s the end of the road for another football great as Italy legend Andrea Pirlo has confirmed he will quit at the end of the current Major League Soccer season.

Pirlo’s current contract with MLS side, New York City FC expires in the summer and, according to him, it will be his last as a professional footballer.

In a recent interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Pirlo, 38 said he came to the decision because of increased doubts about his physicality at this point in his career.

“You just realise that the time has come,” he said. “Every day you have physical problems, you cannot train as you like because you always have some stuff. At my age, that’s enough. It’s not that you can go on forever to 50. I’ll do something else.”

The great Italian will leave behind a legacy few can match in the modern era, having won all there is in the beautiful game and doing so in a style unique to him alone.
