Ed Sheeran breaks arm in cycling accident

Pop star Ed Sheeran has broken his right arm, putting his upcoming tour dates in jeopardy.

"I've had a bit of a bicycle accident," wrote the star on his Instagram page, posting a picture of his arm in a cast.

"I'm currently waiting on some medical advice, which may affect some of my upcoming shows. Please stay tuned for further news."

The 26-year-old was on a break from his world tour, but was due to resume with a gig in Taipei next week.

He has a further 14 dates scheduled this year, including concerts in Japan, South Korea and Thailand, before kicking off the Australian leg of his tour in March 2018.

The tour is in support of his multi million-selling third album Divide, which was released earlier this year.

Sheeran famously plays his concerts solo - using just a guitar and a loop pedal to layer up songs like Thinking Out Loud, Sing and Shape of You.

Losing the use of his right arm would make such a set-up impractical - but, speaking to BBC News earlier this year, Sheeran said he would never consider playing with a backing band.

"I don't feel like there's anything interesting or new about seeing a singer-songwriter with a band behind them," he said.

Liverpool cannot win the Premier League playing like Mourinho - Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has defended Liverpool's playing style following a dour goalless draw with Manchester United, and stated his side will not win the Premier League adopting the Special One's tactics.

The Reds were frustrated at home on Saturday as Mourinho's United shut up shop, and were forced to settle for a share of the points in a 0-0 tie.

That result leaves Liverpool nine points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City after just eight games, and the 27-year wait for the title at Anfield looks likely to be extended for another season.

Klopp, however, feels that imitating Saturday's adversary is no recipe for success.

"Most things [Manchester United] did were completely clear. Why should I talk about them sitting back before the game? That's not my job," the German told reporters.

"Jose obviously did what he thinks is right, or what he wants to do, and that is OK. It doesn't make life easier for us but I can't moan and say 'Come on, open up a little bit'. That's not how it is.

"They want to win the league and I am sure we couldn't play like this in Liverpool after 125 years without the title. We cannot sit back and say 'Let's wait' — that is not possible."

Despite trailing seemingly unstoppable City so early in the season, Klopp refused to lose his optimism after seeing another result go against Liverpool.

"We have to do whatever is necessary and we will be challengers," he said.

Expelled refugee student kills seven in Kenyan school

An expelled student shot dead six of his former schoolmates and a security guard at his school in northern Kenya on Saturday, and was then himself lynched by a furious mob, officials said.

The attack took place at a school in the remote town of Lokichogio in Kenya’s Turkana region, close to the border with war-torn South Sudan. At least six other students were flown to hospital with bullet wounds.

The assailant was a 17-year-old from South Sudan - one of thousands of refugee children who have been living in Kenya and going to school there since civil war broke out in their country in 2013. He was detained in possession of an AK-47, the basic assault rifle of choice in conflicts across Africa and the Middle East.

“The school was not attacked by bandits but an errant student on expulsion for disciplinary cases,” regional government official Wanyama Musyambohe told reporters.

Security officials said the assailant, whose name has not been disclosed, had been arrested, but then killed by a mob while in police custody.

“The attack ... is a painful reminder of the state of insecurity along the border,” tweeted Turkana county governor Josphat Nanok.

Close to 2 million people have fled South Sudan since fighting broke out in December 2013, sparking what has become Africa’s largest cross-border exodus since the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Some 75,000 of them are now in Kenya.

Perennial conflicts have left the region awash with arms, which are smuggled across borders with relative ease.

Cairo was named on Monday as the most dangerous megacity for women by an international Media poll.

Women’s rights experts said that the treatment of women in the Egyptian capital has worsened since a 2011 uprising seeking social change.

Cairo came out worst when the Media asked experts on women’s issues in 19 megacities how well women are protected from sexual violence, harmful cultural practices and about access to healthcare and finance.

Women’s rights campaigners and commentators said women in Cairo faced daily harassment while a weakened economy and high unemployment since the uprising had eroded economic opportunities for women and seen health services deteriorate.
