Are you in a toxic relationship? Would you know if you were?
What are the most common, telltale signs of a toxic relationship? You might answer with "You spend more time fighting than enjoying each other," but that's not the only sign of a toxic relationship. Here are nine more:
1. Hostility. Is your significant other hostile toward you? Are they angry a lot of the time? If you feel you are living with a lot of tension, feeling stressed and not able to express yourself the way you want, your relationship is not healthy for you. You want to feel the safety and security to express your authentic self.
2. Criticism and contempt. Are you on edge much of the time because you feel that you can't please your partner or do anything right? Do they make fun of you or criticize you in public, in front of friends or family? Do they act superior towards you or mock you? These are all warning signs of an unhappy, dysfunctional relationship.
3. Avoidance. Do they avoid you? Maybe they give double messages that make you feel confused (e.g. saying "Of course I love you" while not behaving in a loving manner). When they don't want to be physically affectionate, you end up feeling rejected. Meanwhile, they complain that you are too needy.
4. Rigidity. Is your partner open to being influenced by you? Are they self-reflective? When you express how you feel and ask for what you want, do they listen and make an effort to meet your needs? If they refuse to acknowledge that your feelings and needs are important, and refuse to go to counseling, you may be stuck in a toxic relationship. Then you need to ask yourself, "What do I need to do for myself to be happy and satisfied with my life?"
5. Name calling. Also known as "dirty fighting," name calling is a definite sign of toxicity in a relationship. Attempting to hurt someone with words is not the way to resolve conflict or communicate hurt feelings. Problems usually escalate quickly when name-calling is present and it makes it especially difficult to create intimacy and connection in the relationship.
6. You aren't yourself. Do you change your likes, dislikes or opinions when you're with your partner? Feeling like you can't be yourself and adjusting to please for fear of retaliation can be a sign of a toxic relationship. It's important to be able to express yourself honestly in your relationship for authentic love to grow.
7. They're more like an over-inolved parent. He/she decides your career, who you hang out with. When they act like an over-involved parent, they choose which friends stay, which ones go and what kind of clothes you should wear. You've learned from past experiences that your thoughts and opinions do not matter to him and if you express them, you will regret it later on.
8. They are kings of guilt trips. They have a certain knack for making you feel guilty and indebted to him. You feel obligated to give in to whatever they want, especially when they remind you of that thoughtful gesture they've done for you lately. When every gesture comes with strings attached, it might be time to cut the cord.
9. He/she's your secret lover ... but not in a good way. Your family and friends don't like the way they treat you. Since they are more likely to give unsolicited relationship advice, you're afraid that what they have to say may be the truth. So, you tend to avoid talking about them, bringing them around, or involving them in any way with your friends and family.

One Prince Dead, Two Others Missing As Okonjo-Iweala’s Dad Battle For Throne
The battle between Prof. Chukwuka Okonjo, father of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, and a royal family over the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku throne, has resulted in the death of a 15-year-old Ogwashi-Uku prince identified as Pentty Sunday Chukwu.
He and two others were shot by soldiers allegedly led by a captain of the Nigerian Army. The shooting incident occurred at Ogwashi-Uku during the celebration of the community’s new yam festival last weekend.
According to the police spokesman, the shooting “was done by the army, led by a Captain.” He, however, did not disclose the name of the Army Captain. He said the army were handling the issue, adding that when “they are through, they will hand over to the police for further investigation.”
The Umudei Royal Family of Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, while demanding to know the whereabouts of their sons, alleged that the victims were shot by soldiers who also took them away to an unknown destination.
The corpse of Pentty Sunday Chukwu is yet to be recovered by relatives of the deceased. Also missing from the community are two other princes, namely, Kingsley Udeh, 22, and Bollus Izedunor, 23, who sustained bullet wounds.
According to the family’s secretary, Anthony Nti, the uniformed men allegedly stormed the palace where the victims were seated and opened fire on them unprovoked, killing one person in the process and injuring two others who had scampered for safety. He urged the relevant authorities to probe the circumstances that led to the invasion of the palace by uniformed men and the shooting that resulted in the casualties.
Investigation however revealed that last Friday’s crisis was not unconnected with the celebration of the New Yam (Iwaaji) festival by the respective ruling houses laying claims to the throne of Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.
There has been a protracted kingship tussle over who occupies the throne between the Umudei ruling house represented by Izedunor lineage and the Umuobaha ruling house represented by the Okonjo lineage. The state government had presented the staff of office to Prof. Chukwuka Okonjo, father of Nigeria’s Minister of Finance as the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom following his victory at the lower courts.
However, Okonjo’s victory at the lower courts is being challenged by the Izedunor lineage at the Supreme Court and as such the police advised both parties to maintain the status quo until judgement was delivered.

WICKEDNESS: Father Flogs Sick 3-Year-Old Son To Death For Urinating On Bed
A 26- year-old man, Ikechukwu Okoro has been arrested and is in the custody of Ebonyi State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for allegedly beating his three-year-old son, Chinedu to death.
It was gathered that Okoro woke up by 4.30am on September 13, 2013 to discover that his sick and only son had urinated on the bed and in anger he picked up a cane and flogged the child till he passed out. He rushed the dead boy to a nearby clinic but he was confirmed dead on arrival.
According to Okoro, he flogged the child out of annoyance and blamed the devil for the misfortune, adding that his wife abandoned him in 2009 with Chinedu, his only son who is now deceased..
“He was the only son I had. When I discovered that he had defecated on the bed we were sleeping together, I went outside to look for a stick to flog him, just like any other normal father would have done to his recalcitrant child. I found a bitter leaf stick and used it to flog him twice. I didn’t know that it could lead to his death.
“My son had been sick, his stomach was swollen before I flogged him,” Okoro lamented.
One of the neighbours who was present while Okoro flogged his son said, he begged him to stop but it fell on deaf ears.
Ebonyi State Police Command through its State Criminal Investigations Department, (SCID) is currently interrogating Ikechukwu Okoro at Isieta Amanato Isu Onicha.
The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Maigari Abbati Dikko said that it was a shock to him that the suspect, Ikechukwu confessed to have flogged his own son, Chinedu to death and that the case had been transferred to the State CID for further investigation. He said the suspect would be charged to court for murder.

Kate Henshaw finally Reveals Why She Dumped Her Oyibo Husband
She looks very young like a lady in her early 30s, but actress Kate
Henshaw is 42 years old and she is single again after she was married
for several years. Below is what she said about her collapsed marriage:
I just decided that, ok, it didn’t work. Next, I had to move on. There is no need holding on to the past – no need holding on to something if it’s not working any more. There is no need flogging a dead horse since it is already lifeless. And when you decide to bury the horse, would you not leave the grave site afterwards? You would go now.
Anything that happens to you now, that sun would still set, another day would come. So, it’s your choice to either be part of the living or be in the grave yard.
And I choose to be alive, enjoy my life and smile at everything that is happening – good or bad. As long as God is with you, things would always be fine with you.
I’m not thinking about anything. At the moment, I’m facing my career. If it comes, fine. If it doesn’t come, that’s okay. It’s not the end of the world because I’m convinced that God loves me. Love has given me more than enough. I have the most gorgeous daughter in the whole world. That’s enough for me.
