Instagram Will Start Counting Video Views Soon

Instagram thots and selfie abusers rejoice! In an effort to increase their already burgeoning Instagram video ad sales, Instagram will track and display the number of views a video receives on Instagram.

Formerly constrained to measuring their popularity through likes and comments, brands and “entrepreneurs” alike will be able to see how many times one of their videos has been viewed. A “view” will be counted after only 3 seconds of playback, which is going to amount to a lot of non-views “accidentally” getting counted as views. This strategy is quite similar to the way Instagram’s parent company Facebook measures video ads, combining a low threshold of what constitutes a “view” with autoplay for some astronomical view counts.

It’s unclear if the view counts will be public, or just for the user. We aren’t sure if we want everyone to know if a post is unpopular, so hopefully those stay private.

While Snapchat may be en vogue right now, Instagram has reportedly increased its video watch rate by 40% over the last six months. Will something like this encourage you to post more videos to Instagram, or is it still a photo-only affair?

Did Drake Throw A Jab At Meek Mill During The NBA All-Star Celebrity Game?

Well it looks like there could be another chapter still being written in the on-going Drake x Meek Mill beef. On Friday night, Drake served as the Canadian coach for the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game alongside his opposition, Kevin Hart, helming the US squad. But before the jump ball was tipped, the OVO leader & Kevin Hart were being interviewed by ESPN’s Sage Steele when Drake ended up giving a subtle jab to Kevin HartMeek Mill.

Talking about the game’s matchup, Drake took full opportunity to throw some shade at Kevin Hart’s hometown of Philadelphia, and possibly Meek Mill too. Drizzy states, “If we’re talking city versus city, it’s been a tough year for you,” before the crowd and Sage react appropriately.

J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, Future, Kid Ink Receive Gold & Platinum Certifications

The new streaming rules in regards to RIAA certifications have resulted in many albums being retroactively honored, and while we've already seen Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd and more benefit from the change-up, the certifications are still rolling in.

This week, J. Cole has earned two platinum plaques -- one each for his first two albums, Cole World and Born Sinner. On top of that, Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint has jumped from gold to double platinum, receiving both a platinum and double platinum certification.

Meanwhile, both Future and Kid Ink have earned gold albums for DS2 and My Own Lanerespectively.

This is certainly something we'll have to get used to, but when we're seeing so many more rap albums being honored, it's hard to complain.
