Meet the Man Who Died six Times

Island doctors told Andrew they had 24 hours to get him to a specialist heart hospital in Bangkok (pictured there during his recovery) or he would die. He was flown there on an emergency medical jet and remained on life support for two weeks and in the hospital for a total of six weeks.

After the wedding they boarded the plane for their honeymoon on the Kandooma Island in The Maldives, but on the flight he started to feel ill with flu-like symptoms. See more photos below:

WHAT IS MYOCARDITIS?

Myocarditis is a viral infection that leads to inflammation and damage to the heart.
The majority of cases clear up within a week, but sometimes the inflammation in the heart lasts longer.
Symptoms include chest pain, fever, an irregular heartbeat and shortness of breath.

There’s no reason why someone with an infection may develop myocarditis - it is often a case of bad luck.

Many people don’t realise it, but common bacterial and viral infections such as flu, ear and chest infections, and even the common cold can get into the bloodstream and affect the heart, explains consultant cardiologist Dr Nigel Durham of York Hospital.

‘It’s more widespread than we’d thought - a quarter of patients we see aged 30 to 35 have evidence of myocarditis, and it is the most common cause of sudden adult death. Myocarditis can be mild and sometimes resolves itself - if the condition is spotted quickly, anti-inflammatory drugs can treat it. But once the heart muscle becomes enlarged, causing it to stretch, there is little that can be done and it can lead to heart failure.

'I thought I was just tired and hungover after the wedding and had perhaps eaten some bad plane food,' he said.


'It all happened completely out of the blue and was absolutely terrifying,' she said. 'I was a complete wreck and felt quite hysterical. I was on the phone to family and friends back at home most of the time, who really kept me going.'

ASUU STRIKE: US expresses worries over ASUU/FG impasse

United States has expressed worry over the lingering feud between the Federal Government and the striking public universities’ lecturers over their demand for better working conditions.

The US also warned against the activities of touts who deceive intending students from Nigeria.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the US Embassy Cultural Affairs Officer, Bill Strassberger, urged the government to resolve the crisis with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, saying “it is a fear, it is a worry for us.”

Nigeria currently has about 7,028 students studying at over 700 institutions in the USA.

He said, “That is something for the Nigerian government. It is up to it to work it out with the striking lecturers.

“We are not involved in that negotiation but we can encourage. It is a fear, it is a worry for us because that would make it hard for the students to come.

“It may be difficult, but there is no magic wand to resolve the strike,” Strassberger added.

Advising Nigerians to shun those who parade themselves as agents, Strassberger said accurate information regarding studying in the US could be obtained from the embassy.

“Those are the touts, those are the people that I will even call criminals because they are stealing opportunities by selling only documents by giving bad information and creating a disappointment when the person comes in with that information or with only document. And that is the result of not getting accurate information,” he said.

Earlier, the Head, EducationUSA, Jennifer Onyukwu, said the ASUU’s strike would affect intending students from Nigeria who wish to study in the US because of the need to obtain their transcripts.

“There is that concern because generally, the world has become a global village, people want stronger applicants in their campuses; so they want stronger senders,” she said.

Onyukwu revealed that from statistics, Nigeria was US’s largest sender of students from sub-saharan Africa to the US.

Today, I thought of many things I would love to have as birthday gifts and the many dreams I am still pursuing. In all of this I'm not losing sight of the fact that if not for God I might have ended up on the street like the many kids and young adults begging for food and some prostituting to make ends meet. If we know the circumstances that force some of these people on the street, we would spare a thought for them. I am where I am today purely by the grace of God and the grace of people who believed in me from the word go.

Recently, I was at the Boys Reform Home, Oregun, Lagos, the discussion I had with the principal Mr. Kotun and much later with the Special Adviser in charge of allremand homes in Lagos set me thinking about the boys and girls on the street. They have dreams too. Can they fulfill those dreams on the street? The answer will likely be no; because I won't be where I am today if I ended up on the street.

For this reason, Mercy Johnson Foundation will be doing a lot to get kids off the street. We are not asking people for money or donation, I will do all I can with the resources God has given me, and with the support of my husband to help get these kids off the street and set them on the path where they can begin to pursue their dreams. I want to plead with people, fans, friends and colleagues to spare a thought for the children on the street. We can begin by educating people around us, parents, the children and people in charge of children (Oga-house help relationship, teacher-student relationship, and others) on the need to treat every child like the future of Nigeria depends on it. And truth be told, our future will not be all that enjoyable if we let the scourge of 'street-children' fester. By then, the rich will begin to cry. I learnt Lagos State Government has 11 homes where most children picked from the streets are kept, reformed and reunited with their families after counseling
.
That is an initiative Mercy Johnson Foundation will be supporting and beyond that we will be going to different states to help spread the message-Get kids off the street, save the future. From tomorrow, I will begin to replay some of the lessons I learnt at the boys' reform home and we all can contribute to getting the kids off the street.

Lol...Man Faces Trial For Using The President's Poster As Toilet Paper

A Zimbabwean man recently landed himself in trouble after he allegedly used President Robert Mugabe's campaign material as toilet paper, a report said on Wednesday.

According to the report, the man appeared in court last week charged with violating the electoral act or, alternatively, destruction of political material.

A public prosecutor told the court that on 24 July this year, Takura Mufumusi entered a bar toilet in Masvingo  with the intention to relieve himself.
While inside, he was spotted by the informant, tearing up Mugabe's poster which he found inside and allegedly using it as toilet paper.
The informant immediately effected a citizen's arrest on Mufumusi and took him to a police station.
Court papers, however, did not state if Mufumusi was arrested after he had already relieved himself.
Magistrate Tinashe Ndokera adjourned the matter indefinitely as the State could not identify the witness.

Man Caught Having Sex With His Daughter In His Car

A Florida man busted with drugs was also caught having sex in his car with his stepdaughter, police say.Barry Thompson, 53, was arrested Sunday after sheriff's deputies in Deltona found him in his car near the entrance of Pride Elementary School. They told him he was trespassing on school property, according to the Sun Sentinel. His 29-year-old stepdaughter was in the passenger seat.
When asked why his pants were unzipped, Thompson reportedly confessed that he and his stepdaughter had a sexual relationship that they were trying to hide from his wife, who is the woman's mother.
After Thompson was arrested for trespassing on school grounds, deputies searched his car and found 51 prescription Dilaudid pills. Thompson also copped to being on pre-trial release for federal charges he's facing in Tennessee. One of the conditions of his release bans him from possessing prescription pills.

Woman Beats Boyfriend To Death For Trying To Break Up With Her [PHOTO]

Prosecutors say a Minnesota woman beat her boyfriend to death, taped his body up in plastic and hid it in a freezer because he was trying to break up with her.



Jetaun Wheeler is charged with second-degree murder in the killing of the 58-year-old man at their Shorewood home. Authorities have not named the victim.

A criminal complaint says the 29-year-old Wheeler told investigators the man had taken the bus back to Chicago. Detectives say when they searched the couple’s house Aug. 21, they found bloody carpet under Wheeler’s mattress. Blood spatter led them to the garage where they found the body in the freezer.

The Star Tribune says authorities are searching for Wheeler’s three children, aged 10, 8 and 7.

Shorewood is 80 miles west of Twin Cities.

All of a sudden, the first thing the lecturer said that day the moment he mounted the podium was that; ‘Mr. and Mrs. Ajanaku, your attention is needed in the office,’ when we got there, they told me that Papa called them that they should tell me that my work is not under them.

“I said they should call Papa back that anybody can come to the Bible school, that why should they reject people, that anybody, even a bricklayer or mechanic, who has interest in the scripture can come, why should they say my work is not under them. I told them to tell him that I will not leave and I must sit for the lecture and understand the scripture more, why should they reject me. I said they should tell him that ‘am going nowhere, I will not leave.
The workers also told me that their hands were tied and that they couldn’t do anything about it. I said I won’t give them their document in my possession, that if they liked they could return my money. Fortunately for me, they returned my money, I didn’t return what they gave me, to show the world that I went to the Bible school, but they didn’t allow me to stay,” he said.

Why do so many ladies have difficulty making enough milk to bréastfeed when they give birth? A new study by scientists at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre and the University of California Davis adds to their previous research implicating insulin’s role in lactation success.

The study is the first to describe how ladies b**bs becomes highly sensitive to:
Insulin during lactation. It is also the first study to get an accurate picture of how specific genes are switched on in the human mammary gland during lactation.The researchers used next generation sequencing technology, RNA sequencing, to reveal “in exquisite detail” the blueprint for making milk in the human mammary gland, according to Laurie Nommsen-Rivers, PhD, RD, IBCLC, a scientist at Cincinnati Children’s and corresponding author of the study, published online in PLOS ONE, a journal of the Public Library of Science. Nommsen-Rivers’ previous research had shown that for mothers with markers of sub-optimal glucose metabolism, such as being overweight, being at an advanced maternal age, or having a large birth-weight baby, it takes longer for their milk to come in, suggesting a role for insulin in the mammary gland. The new research shows how the mammary gland becomes sensitive to insulin during lactation.
For a long time, insulin was not thought to play a direct role in regulating the milk-making cells of the human bréast, because insulin is not needed for these cells to take in sugars, such as glucose. Scientists now, however, appreciate that insulin does more than facilitate uptake of sugars.
“This new study shows a dramatic switching-on of the insulin receptor and its downstream signals during the bréast’s transition to a bio factory that manufactures massive amounts of proteins, fats and carbohydrates for nourishing the newborn baby,” says Dr. Nommsen-Rivers.

According to the girl, her father who was sojourning in Spain returned to Ghana December last year and that was when it all started. “At the age of 16, I had not slept with any boy or man, but my father returned from Spain last December and started having s*x with me,” she said.

It was learnt that personnel of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSSU) of the Ghana Police Service in Sekondi yesterday arrested the father and placed him in custody pending further investigations, after a report was made. Also, a medical report form was issued to the 17-year-old girl to attend hospital after which the accused person was arrested.
