WATCH: Terrifying Gas Explosion in Ghana Sends Massive Fireball into the Sky

Ghana is still shaken after a gas station in Accra exploded, killing a yet to be disclosed number of people.

The explosion was caught on camera by many people showing a frightening fireball rising into the sky.

The explosion is said to have occurred at the state-owned GOIL liquefied natural gas station and that it spread to a Total petrol station across the street at the Atomic Junction, Guardian UK confirms.

Speaking with the press, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the deputy information minister, told a local radio station, “Unfortunately there are some fatalities and we are working to have the numbers. here are quite a number also injured.”

He added that the blaze was under control and that some 200 police officers were sent to the area to contain the chaos.

An eyewitness, Kobby Boateng, said he had just returned from the campus with his girlfriend when the explosion happened.

“All of a sudden, we heard a boom and the flash of an explosion, which made the building just shake and the lights went out,” he said. “People were rushing out of their rooms. Some of them were naked and the heat that was coming from that blast – my God, it was unbearable.”

The fatalities are yet to be confirmed. This tragedy comes two years after a tragic flood in Ghana caused massive gas explosion in the capital.
