Boko Haram Kills At Least 60 People In Fresh Borno Attacks

Some members of the terror group, Boko Haram, dressed in military uniform, crept upon worshiping villagers in a mosque in Konduga, 34km southeast of Maiduguri, and shot dead at least 44 worshippers, injuring 26 others, sources said.
A House of Assembly member representing Konduga in the State Assembly, Ali Dalori, confirmed the attack to journalists, but declined giving details of the casualty.
A hospital security guard, who pleaded anonymity at the Accident and Emergency ward of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that 26 persons were brought to the hospital on Sunday.
“Some are admitted here in the A and E ward and others have been taken to the Amenity Ward; we are under instructions not to allow visitors into the ward, please,” said the security guard.
The Konduga attack coincided with a similar attack on Ngom village, 5km east of Maiduguri, where about 12 villagers were killed. An operative of the vigilante in Maiduguri tagged Civilian-JTF, Usman Musa, told reporters in Maiduguri that a troop of soldiers and youth vigilante had been deployed to Konduga on Sunday but met a fierce resistance from the heavily armed terrorists.
“We lost four of our members in the Civilian-JTF when they arrived Konduga yesterday, I don’t know about the soldiers; but it was a very bad incident yesterday. Some of our members made it back on foot through bush paths this morning,” Musa said.
The Military Joint Task Force, JTF, is yet to speak on the latest Borno Killings while some Nigerians have continued to question the effectiveness of the State of Emergency in Borno and neighbouring Yobe and Adamawa states as the killings by insurgents continue.
The Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has in a video, claimed the responsibility for the killings in Konduga and earlier ones in Gamboru and others that led to the death of at least 14 soldiers.

There Will Be Revolution In Nigeria Soon – T. B. Joshua

The things  going on the country can well be defined as too cold for comfort but that notwithstanding Nigerians are known to have endured all sorts of hardship which ordinarily would have made any other boil.

However, the recent turn of things in the country has shown that the perseverance of the people may have reached the breaking point and it was this that took the center stage recently in Lagos when the general overseer of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua during his sermon revealed that he saw revolution in the country.

I think this exactly what the country needs, so lets keep our fingers crossed and watch what happens

New Inventory 'death test' predicts how long you have left to live

Another shocking inventory is out.
It might not be information you want to know, but just in case you do, scientists have designed a noninvasive test called the "death test" which can tell people how long they have left to live. A painless laser pulse is applied to the surface of the skin through a wristwatch-style device.

It analyses endothelial cells measuring how the body will decline with age, giving a measure of the lifespan.   A user-friendly version of the system is expected to be completed within the next three years.

I bet only few people would go through this test.

Meet The Man Who Has Visited Every Country In The World Without Flying A Plane

British adventurer Graham Hughes has managed to visit all 201 UN recognized countries without travelling by plane or driving himself, BBC reports.....

“I did it because most people said it was impossible and because it was a travel adventure which hadn’t been done before” he said.

Hughes set off on his adventure on January 1, 2009 from Uruguay travelling for 1,426 days on a $100 a week budget.

He finally completed his journey in the world’s youngest country, South Sudan. “I’ve fed the crocs in Australia, hunted the dragons of Komodo, befriended the orangutans in Borneo, played with the lemurs in Madagascar, washed the elephants in India and eaten live octopus in South Korea.”

Hughes made it out alive — and earned some major street cred along the way. In addition to the Guinness World Records recognizing him for “Most Countries Visited in One Year by Scheduled Ground Transport,” Hughes spent a week in a Congolese prison, was arrested sneaking into Russia and joined a Bwiti tribe in Gabon.

He even tiptoed into North Korea, which is not exactly a popular tourist destination.

Horrible Mistake : Man mistakenly kill boss on guard

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old security guard, Segun Salami, for allegedly killing his boss, Alhaji Taiyewo Awolesi, in Ewuowa, Ikorodu area of the state.gistdoctor.com has learnt.

The police said the suspect was on his way to rescue Awolesi, who was being harassed by touts in the area, when he shot him in error.

But Salami said the bullet, which killed his master on July 25, 2013, did not emanate from his gun.

Salami, said, “I am a security guard in the neighbourhood and I am also a bricklayer at a cemetery in the area. A telecoms company is constructing a mast on Alhaji’s (Awolesi’s) property and he called me to help him to do some work.

“After I had completed the work, he gave me N500 and I left. I was on my way to the cemetery when I started hearing gunshots.

“Alhaji called me on the telephone, saying I should come to his rescue because touts were harassing him for money because of the mast being constructed on his land.

“I went to get my locally made gun, put some gun powder in it and rushed back to Alhaji’s land which is very close to the cemetery.”

Salami said on arriving at the scene, he met a large number of thugs. He said he instructed the deceased to run away from the scene and report at the police station.

He said he had not even brought out his gun when the deceased was killed.

He said, “I strapped the gun to my back and was attempting to disperse the thugs when someone shot Alhaji.

“Immediately after Alhaji fell to the ground, all the hoodlums fled. I tried to get him to a hospital but he died on the way.”

The indigene of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, described the incident as the handiwork of the devil.

The suspect, who claimed to be married with two children, said the deceased was his benefactor.

“Alhaji was a very nice man. When my wife gave birth to a baby boy two weeks ago, he gave us money. It was those hoodlums that caused the whole thing,” he said.

When asked if he was licensed to own a gun, he said, “The gun was not mine, it belonged to my grandfather and we used to to hunt birds.”

It was learnt that Awolesi had been buried according to Islamic rites.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back.

Cultists Kills Man In Place Of Brother

Suspected cult members have killed a 22-year-old man, Michael Agbo, after destroying his parents’ home in Itaoluwo, a suburb of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The incident, which took place on August 6, 2013, at 10pm, is currently under investigation at Shagamu Road Division.

PUNCH Metro learnt that on the fateful day, about eight cultists stormed the deceased’s family home, held the occupants hostage, and vandalised the house.

It was also learnt that the cultists, who intended to kill the elder brother of the deceased, Emmanuel Agbo, did not meet him at home.

The cultists were said to have killed the victim in place of his brother.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim’s mother and two other siblings of the deceased were beaten up during the attack.

A relative, who craved anonymity for fear of reprisal, said the culprits ransacked the house, broke the television and seized the phones of the victims so that they would not be able to warn their brother not to come home.

The assailants were said to have waited for Emmanuel in the house, but when Michael came home, they descended on him instead.

The source said Michael was shot from behind, and then slashed with a cutlass.

She said, “The mother of the deceased and two female siblings were at home when the boys stormed it.

“The boys destroyed everything in the house, including the television. They vandalised the kitchen and beat up their mother mercilessly. They seized their phones also.

“When they were leaving the house, Michael, who was the fourth of seven children, returned into the house.

“Immediately he sighted them, he tried to flee, but he was shot from behind. They cut off his right hand and slashed his body with a cutlass.

“The eldest brother, Emmanuel, was not home at the time the incident occurred. He was the one they came for. It was likely he had something to do with those boys. Some of them are known faces around there.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that Michael was rushed to Real Hope Hospital, Ogijo, where he was confirmed dead.

A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said no suspect had been arrested.

When contacted on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back.

Berverly's Mum is proud of her- Best Friend Charity

Charity Owoh is Beverly's best friend and confidant. Below is what she told Encomium magazine about how Beverly's mum is proud and supports everything she does in the reality series
"Bev and her mum are best friends. Her mum just called me now, she's our best friend. She's like the third person in our circle because whatever we do we tell her. If you watch the show you will see that there are three people she calls every time, Charity, Denrele, and mummy Suzy. Their relationship is very tight. Before Bev dates anybody, she tells her mom. (About Bev and Angelo's relationship/sex) She knows. She has seen everything. There's the good and bad, of course she's a mother so she would feel the way mother's would feel but she's very proud of her daughter and says she's a queen. She's already redecorating her room, so she would welcome her back like any mother would.

Charity also talks about Beverly's relationship with 2shotz. Yep, she mentioned his name. See it after the cut...

"Bev can handle controversy. It was evident during the time she was dating 'Mr I've never battered anyone before' and all the things they have said about her. While they were dating, her mother came back from America and the next thing was for him to start telling people that Beverly was doing drugs when she can't even take alcohol. (Why they broke up) She was in love with with him but I know he instilled fear in her. There are different stories but I don't want to talk about it. There are some stories that led to them breaking up, that if it comes out would look totally bad for him. There are some things that if I speak about will hurt 2shotz in ways that he can never imagine. So, all the things that he is saying right now...it got to a point where he broke her simcard because of phone calls. Who does that?

Tonto Dikeh-“I’m a role model to those who see me as one”

I am a role model to those who see me as one; I am sure Nigerians out there see and read all these things and they laugh. I am sure there are people out there who appreciate what I do as an actress and hope to someday achieve what I have achieved as a thespian.
For how long will your career continue to thrive on controversy?
My career thrives on everything; my career thrives on all the ups and downs that I have been faced with. But most especially, the controversies have made me stronger and wiser.

What’s your take on the fact that most people believe that you are weird and wild?

I don’t care about them because they don’t care about me; everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. I live my life the way I want to. People should also remember that I am human and no one is perfect.
Are you too strong to fall in love?

I am not too strong to fall in love; I am human and I have feelings too. I don’t think there is any woman on earth that has not experienced love in one form or the other.
Is it possible for you to marry an actor?

That’s not possible; I can never be caught doing that. I can’t marry an actor.

ASUU Strike 2013 Update: “The current strike is beyond salaries and allowances for lecturers” – ASUU

ASUU Strike 2013 Update: “The current strike is beyond salaries and allowances for lecturers” – ASUU-

The Academic Staff Unionn of Universities, ASUU, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT chapter, has blamed government’s poor funding of the educational system, for the falling standards in the sector. Members of the Union have been on strike for over six weeks, as they continue to protest against the non-implementation of the 2009 ASUU/FG agreement, which borders on the improved funding of universities and other issues.

“The present ASUU strike is beyond salaries and allowances for lecturers. Since the 2009 agreement, government has set up fact-finding missions to ascertain the state of Nigerian universities. Panels of inquiries for need assessment for universities have been set up and reports have been submitted, yet the authorities in the education sector seen to have shunned implementation of the recommendations. “The Needs Assessment Committee went round the universities in the country and what it found was shocking,” Mr. Uche Omeje, the Acting chairperson of ASUU in ESUT told a news conference.

“First, it found that the teachers-students ratio was 1-400 on the average instead of being 1-40. It found that the classrooms were grossly inadequate and could accommodate only about 30 percent of the number of students that needed to enter those classrooms, and while most students were standing in their lecture theatres other students write on their backs as lectures were held under trees in some of the universities.”

Omeje then went on to cite cases, where some university laboratories used kerosene stoves instead of Bunsen burners for experiments and other sub-standard procedures.

He said: “The committee found chemistry labs without water; they found people doing examinations called theory of practical and not the practical. They found students living in the hostels without functional toilets and conveniences. They found heaps of human feaces in the classrooms where our future leaders are produced.

“With overcrowded classrooms, dilapidated infrastructure, ill-motivated staff and students and, in some cases, unqualified staff, Nigeria universities have fallen to the level of routine producers of uncultured or uneducated school leavers. Some of those who can afford it, especially government officials, have since resorted to taking their children to our neighbouring countries Ghana, Togo, Ivory Coast, Liberia etc for their university education. This is a clear loss of faith in Nigerian university system. This is why we are on strike.”

He also stressed that the FG must honour the pact it had with ASUU four years ago, saying that “it is demeaning, despicable and an expression of lack of integrity on government’s part to renege on its promise.”

The branch of ASUU also insisted that they won’t call off the strike, until the FG acts accordingly
