I’ve sold only 30 stolen vehicles – Engineer

A self-acclaimed Building Engineer has told operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command, that he is not an armed robber but a receiver of stolen vehicles.
The suspect, Kayode Haruna, who claimed to be a graduate of Yaba College of Technology, was alleged to have bought over 50 stolen vehicles from armed robbers at low prices after which would sell them members of the public.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, told PUNCH Metro that the suspect advised the robbers to snatch unregistered vehicles coming into the country at the border.
She said because the vehicles were not registered, they were difficult to trace and the suspect would sell them to members of the public.
She said, “A gang of robbers were arrested last year and they confessed that their modus operandi was to snatch vehicles from people bringing in vehicles from Cotonou, Benin Republic. They would then sell the stolen vehicles to Haruna.
“Based on their confession, police began to search for Haruna. After months of investigation, he was arrested and he will be charged to court for receiving stolen goods.”
The 40-year-old suspect, however, told PUNCH Metro that he had sold only 30 vehicles as against the over 50 the police alleged.
The native of Kwara State said when he initially started dealing with the robbers, he did not know that the vehicles were stolen.
He added that when he later knew that the vehicles were stolen, he continued the business relationship because “the devil tempted” him to continue.
He said, “I was working at a construction site one day when one of my boys, Sola, gave me the telephone number of Stanley, whom he said was a customs officer that sold vehicles at very cheap prices. I met with Stanley, Ejike and Dada and they gave me very good prices. So, we started doing business.
“Most times, they called me with different telephone numbers and we met at different hotels in Egbeda, Mile 12 areas,  Lagos, or the Mowe area of Ogun State.
I always paid cash and they handed over the vehicles to me. They told me the vehicles were impounded vehicles, so I did not suspect anything initially.
“On one occasion, however, they sold to me a blood-stained vehicle. This was when I started to suspect that they were armed robbers. I would have stopped dealing with them but the devil pushed me to continue to do business with them.”
When asked how much he usually bought and sold the vehicles, the father of four said, “I have bought and sold only 30 vehicles. I usually sell Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla and Toyota Highlander because the demand for the vehicles is high.
“The market price for Toyota Highlander is about N2.2m but I buy it at N1m. I buy Toyota Camry 2010 model for N1.5m and I sell it for N2.4m. The Toyota Camry I am currently driving, I bought it at N350,000.”

Tragedy occurs as ‘Newly-wed couple was killed in crash after Marriage

Did the death of a couple, Francis and Ann Edeh, along with two others, in an auto crash have some unseen hands behind it or was it just destiny at work. That is the question begging for answer several days after the accident.
The crash happened along the busy Abakaliki –Uge while the couple were on their way to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, to express their gratitude to friends and family members who graced their wedding in Calabar, Cross River State capital, the previous week.

What is raising the poser is the drama that involved the couple shortly before the accident that claimed their lives.
Frank and Ann, as they were fondly called, were said to be from Ebonyi State but resident in Calabar,  where Frank had chosen to stay to carry out his electronics business.
According to sources, the duo left Calabar on the afternoon of Saturday, 7 September, heading to Abakaliki but, on getting to Amudo, some thirty kilometres to Abakaliki, their vehicle, a Toyota Camry, developed an electrical fault which prompted Frank to go in search of an auto electrician.  He took Okada to the electrician shop, about half a kilometre from the spot where the car had the fault. “The man came to my shop at about 4 pm and said his car had stopped and that he had tried to start it without success.  He suspected an electrical fault. So, I went with him on the Okada”, Omaka, the electrician told Vanguard.

After spirited effort by Omaka to get the car to start failed, he informed Frank that his former boss, Luke, might help but that he was operating at Onueke, some three kilometres away from Amudo. Frank asked the electrician to get Luke on phone which he did, asking Luke to come on Okada so that he would get to the place fast.
When Luke came, he asked Frank to pay the Okada man the fare, N200, but Ann objected, arguing that the man ought to repair the car before her husband would pay and this led to an argument.

“Luke took a motorcycle from Onueke to Amudo. When he got there, he told the man to pay the Okada man but his wife started shouting that why should her husband pay the transport fare when he had not even touched the car”, Omaka narrated.
“Luke still wanted to repair the car but when he opened the bonnet, I think he saw something which made him to change his mind and he told the man that he should allow the repair to wait until Monday and that even if he went on to repair the car, it still would not start”.
This statement by Luke got Ann more angry, causing Luke to leave the place  and since there was nothing else the couple could do as nightfall was rapidly approaching, they had to leave for Abakaliki in a commercial vehicle.

The next day, Frank and Ann sought the service of another electrician at Abakaliki whose name was given as Ortuh.  They asked the electrician to go with them to Amudo to fix the car. “They refused to heed the advice of Luke that they should allow the repair of the car to wait till Monday. So, the next day, which was Sunday, they did not go to church but rather  decided to come back with Ortuh from Abakalilki to Amudo in a chartered vehicle. On their  way, the car suffered burst tyre and collided with a tanker.  All the four people in the car, including the couple, were killed in the accident”. Omaka said
When Sunday Vanguard visited Luke at Onueke Motor Park where his auto electrical shop is located, he said Ann was unnecessarily quarrelsome. “I told them that if not for my boy who called me on phone that I should come and help a man and his wife who just got married because their car had refused to start, I do not usually go on outside work, but when I got there, I saw something and told them not to repair that car till Monday because my spirit told me that something was wrong. The woman was angry and thought I wanted to punish them”.
Though, the electrician would not disclose what he .saw, he queried why Frank should take his wife the next day to where their faulty car was. “Why did the man take his wife the next day to Amudo to repair the car?  Couldn’t she have stayed in Abakaliki while he alone with  Ortuh go  to repair the car?”

He said the fate of the two had been bound together by unseen forces, otherwise they would have attended service that Sunday and prayed to God and then, on Monday, Frank would have gone to Amudo to fix the car, and tragedy would have been averted.
A taxi driver at Abomege Motor Park in Abakaliki, Ogbada told Sunday Vanguard that the driver  whose car the couple chartered that Sunday morning used to be a tipper driver but recently bought the ill-fated Audi car, with which he plied the Abakaliki – Amudo- Abomege road, from the money he got from driving the tipper.
“I was the one the man (Frank) contacted first but I did not want to go; so I gave it to the former tipper driver. The man (driver) appeared drunk that morning and so he collected N1,500 from the man even when we asked him to collect the complete sum for five passengers which is N1,800 since  the transport fare from Abakaliki to Amudo is 300 Naira and his car carried five persons”.

He said nemesis may have caught up with the former tipper driver because he was not remitting the money he was scheduled to pay the owner of the tipper and was accumulating money to buy his own vehicle, “We were not happy with him because he collected N1,500 from the people (couple) and did not pay us commission (chop money) as the money was not enough for him to give to us and also buy fuel and now see where he ended”.
At press time, the tanker was still parked at the Onueke Police Station while the bodies of Ortuh, the electrician, and the driver had been  taken to their villages for burial while those of the couple were in the mortuary of the Onueke General Hospital.

Blackberry To Cut 4,500 Jobs Globally

Blackberry has announced plans to cut 4,500 jobs in an attempt to staunch huge losses - That figure comes to about 40 percent of its worldwide workforce.

The smartphone maker said it anticipated a loss of as much as $995m when it reports its second-quarter earnings next week.

Shares in the firm closed down 17 percent after briefly being halted following the announcement.

In August, the Canadian company said it was evaluating a possible sale.

In a statement on Friday, Blackberry's chief executive Thorstein Heins said: "We are implementing the difficult, but necessary operational changes announced today to address our position in a maturing and more competitive industry, and to drive the company toward profitability."

"Going forward, we plan to refocus our offering on our end-to-end solution of hardware, software and services for enterprises and the productive, professional end user."

The company said the losses were primarily attributable to disappointing sales of its new Z10 model smartphone.

Released in January to much fanfare after many delays, the phone has failed to enthuse consumers.

Comedian AY Blasts Ex lover For Still Being Alive

I wonder what AY is trying to do this time.

Even after years of marital bliss and glamour with his stunning wife and daughter, he couldn't still 'let go' of his ex girlfriend.

The actor took to social network Twitter, where he jokingly mocked his ex.

AY blasts his ex for still being alive after the regular lines she used to say to him when their romance was still at top gear.

According to him, he expected her to be dead by now to prove to him that she truly couldn't live without him.

"@AYCOMEDIAN: I'm so disappointed. My ex is still alive after all this years! She used 2 say she can't live without me'. So she was actually lying," he tweeted.

Whoever his ex girlfriend could be, that must have hit her so hard.

$270 Million Worth Of Cocaine Found On Flight

There was something odd about the 30 suitcases that showed up on a flight from Venezuela. The colorful bags weren't registered to any of the passengers on board.

When French officials opened them up, they discovered why - 1.3 tons of pure cocaine were stuffed inside the anonymous bags.

The street value of the stash? About 200 million Euros, or $270 million.

The catch was made on September 11, but French authorities didn't publicise the find until Saturday.

The suitcases came from Caracas aboard an Air France flight to Paris, but did not match any of the passengers on board, CNN affiliate BFMTV reported.

"Several" people have been taken in custody, French Interior Minister Manuel Valls told reporters Saturday.

Authorities worked with Spanish, British and Dutch police on the investigation, BFMTV said.

This case "illustrates the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the fight against traffickers," Valls said.

Venezuelan authorities are also investigating. The country's Public Ministry said prosecutors will investigate, along with the Counterdrug Command of the National Guard in Simon Bolivar International Airport, to see if any criminal activity took place.

Swaziland King Chooses New Virgin Bride As 15th Wife

Swaziland’s King Mswati III has chosen an 18-year-old beauty pageant contestant as his 15th wife, a palace spokesman said Tuesday, days before a much-criticised parliamentary vote.

“I can confirm that the king has introduced to the nation a new liphovela (royal fiancee),” said Ludzidzini palace governor Timothy Mtetwa.

Mswati, a 45-year-old who is sub-Saharan Africa’s last absolute monarch, introduced Sindiswa Dlamini at a Reed Dance celebration over the weekend, Mtetwa told AFP.

She wore red feathers on her head — a sign of royalty.

The young woman graduated from Mbabane’s St. Francis High School last year and is a finalist in the Miss Cultural Heritage beauty pageant. The winner will be announced on September 28.

The king has come under fire for his household’s lavish lifestyle while the tiny mountain kingdom’s 1.2 million people struggle to make a living.

Mswati reportedly has a personal fortune of around $200 million (152 euros) and the UN estimates that 70 percent of his 1.2 million subjects live below the poverty line.

He has steadfastly resisted reforms.

The new engagement was announced at a festival which also counted regional delegates who will observe parliamentary elections on Friday.

Critics have slammed the polls as a sham, partly because political parties are banned and candidates are hand-picked by traditional leaders.

The weekend’s celebrations were a smaller repeat of last month’s official annual Reed Dance, where young virgins from across the kingdom gather and dance for the king.

“It just happened that the international community was there to witness the event,” said Mtetwa.

The wedding only takes place once the fiancee falls pregnant. Dlamini will then become Mswati’s 14th wife.

The monarch’s colourful private life is off-limits in local media, but has drawn a lot of international interest.

Three wives left the household in recent years. The latest, Queen LaGija, fled the palace in 2012 claiming years of physical and emotional abuse.

Another queen, LaDube, was reportedly abused after she was caught in bed with the justice minister, a close friend of the king.

Mswati had kidnapped and married the queen when she was 16 in 2005.

I Will Get Pregnant When God Decides – Stephanie Okereke Linus

Stephanie Okereke Nollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke Linus (MFR) speaks with TADE MAKINDE in this interview about her marriage and career.

Excerpts:

How has life been as a wife?
Beautiful. Life has been beautiful, good and fun

Fun how?
Fun because you are happy with someone you really love and looking forward to share the rest of your life with. It makes it interesting because it’s a long journey.

You took your time before you eventually got married. There must have been some pressures while single from many. How did you handle it?
In the Nigerian context, there can be pressures maybe when you get to a certain age or stage, you know what is knocking on your door. I was talking to someone recently and she was like no one is coming, but it is not a race. When you understand marriage is not a race and that when your time comes, it is your time. Some people can marry early and live 10 years of misery and pain and then you just get married in one year and you are having so much bliss in your life and that person that had married for a long time is even wishing that she could just have this moment with this man that I am staying with. One of the biggest trap that the enemy has is to pressurise you and put you in a corner so you can make a wrong decision, especially in marriage. That is the biggest thing and when you make that wrong decision, then you are in for it. It is so good that you take your time and ask God for the actual direction. You know He gives you the endurance, patience and everything to stay in that marriage.

In your case did you experience that kind of pressure?
Not really. I could have been married a long time if I wanted, but I had a vision for what I want for my life. Even for man. It is good for man to mentally decide that he wants to get married. It is also good for us, women, to be mentally committed when we are ready for it. I am going into this not because of the way the society has formed it to be, that one is ripe for marriage within the age of 23-27, but it is good for one to mentally decide that she wants to be in a marriage so that it won’t be a burden when you enter into it. You are entering with your eyes wide open and whatever comes out of it you must have made up your mind and be prepared that this is what you want.

When you met your husband, how did you know he was Mr. Right?
(Laugh…) I think it started when I came back. My head was all over the place and I wasn’t in the mood for any kind of relationship. It eventually got to a point that I told God I was ready. It was like a journey for me at one time and I did not want to be in that space. I told God that I wanted to be in a serious relationship now. It was like a conversation between God and I. He said okay, are you ready, and I replied Him in the affirmative. It’s funny. It wasn’t like I was looking for a husband but I was ready to be in a serious relationship and have a courtship. That was why I said you have to be in a mental state because it is not good for you to end up dating the wrong person. I met him. Initially we didn’t have the mindset to date. It started with a business arrangement. He said he had an idea that could help my career. Of course he got my attention and we started seeing. I think it was the third, fourth meeting we started adjusting. He asked me out on my birthday and we dated for a year

When did you make up your mind to accept him?
It was in the course of the journey that I started realising he was all I wanted in a man and I knew in my spirit. You just know these things and it just happened. He must have known earlier that I dug him, but he was just waiting for a special moment to make it happen where I will always remember. Maybe that was why he decided to tell me on my birthday.

Do you think women should get worked up on the issue of marriage?
It is not at all costs. People have different reasons for getting married, but at the long run you need to really check what the major reason of getting married is.

Why did you take your wedding abroad?
Imagine my wedding taking place in Nigeria? It would be a carnival and I didn’t want a carnival for my wedding. He didn’t want that too. We are very alike and we wanted something really special. It was not that we couldn’t do it here, but we had travelled wide a lot during the course of our relationship and we really wanted something special for ourselves and our families. We weren’t thinking about the people, it was about us trying to make that moment special. It wasn’t what we decided, we also asked God. It was not like we chose where to get married. It was something spiritual for us to do and God also confirmed to us that we should go there and get married.

How did you receive the confirmation?
During the wedding arrangement in Nigeria, we were thinking on where to do it, either in Nigeria or elsewhere. So we were thinking of Paris, but we wanted to be sure and we needed a confirmation on where to go. It was like you wanted something and you also needed a confirmation because it is going to take a lot. All the people that went came back safely. My husband and I met with the chairman of an airline. He donated a plane to move all our guests. What better confirmation do you need than that?

Your wedding took place abroad. Are you guys also planning to raise your kids in Nigeria or abroad?
The world is becoming global; it’s going to be both Nigeria and abroad.

Have you guys decided on the numbers of kids to have?
Am I supposed to tell you that?

Just asking...
Okay. As many as possible.

When will you start because I expect you to have been pregnant by now?
Are you God that is going to decide on that? This kind of thing, you don’t decide it yourself.

Since you got married, you have not featured in movies?
I have appeared in lots of them. It depends on how many you have watched yourself. I am working on the ones I produced myself. Its entitled ‘Dry’. It has to do with the challenges women go through during child birth. That will be my first project since I’ve been married. The first phase was shot in Nigeria while I am taking the second phase abroad.

Why abroad?
It was because of how the story was written.

The selected locations in Nigeria...
Ogoja in Cross River State and Abakaliki. Also in Abuja and a little in Sokoto.

How long have you been working on it?
Since I was in the university. I started it when I was in my second year.

That would be when?
About 12,15 years ago. It’s been a burden to me that I needed to do this project. Every time I tried to turn away from it, I found myself coming back to it, so I needed to get it over with.

The federal government’s support for the entertainment industry started with a N200 million largesse, but there had been lots of complaints on it. Suddenly, another N3 billion has come.

Do you think it’s okay to be doling out money like that or to address infrastructural problems?
The money is good. I commend this government because it is the first to show interest in the Nigerian entertainment industry. It is actually the first government to give money to the industry. It is good because we need it, but what we need most is not even infrastructure, it is the policies that will help the structures stand.
The issue of copyright and other policies surrounding piracy and distributions are there to be addressed. If we get this, the industry will drive itself because we have been driving ourselves with this massive piracy. We need to put data in place. You know it’s like an open market and there is no control. It has got to the stage where your works are being pirated to your face and there is nothing you can do about it. There are no laws there to protect our works. Those who want to invest are not coming because they are not sure of getting returns on their stake. Though the copyright commission has been making some arrests, it should be on a larger scale. We should set out laws that will put an end to all these.

Before acting, what career did you pursue?
Taqwando and high jump, but I stopped because the bar always hit my legs. I did that when I was in school.

The tenure of Ibinabo Fiberesima will end sometime. Would you consider leading your own generation?
(Laughs…) She is doing a good job. She can rerun.

You don’t like to lead people?
I do lead people every day. It’s not like I can’t lead people in the open or public, that I am not scared of, but it depends. Even as it may, leading AGM is not on my radar for now. I have different things and projects that I am working on right now. Don’t forget we are supporting Ibinabo to come out with good things.

How do you manage to look cute?
At a point after my marriage, I discovered that I had added weight, but I had to shake it up. I engaged in some exercises, watched what I ate and also cut down on so many things. I also cook. I like cooking.

Do you consider having a food outlet?
I don’t know about that. I just love cooking because I love to try new things and my cooking is fun. It is like inventing things. You come out with your recipe and people’s recipe and adjust to the things that work for you.

What project are you working on?
We are trying to bring maternal issues to fore. We had have cases of lots of women in Nigeria that died during child birth. It is even higher than people who die of HIV or on our roads every day. Unlike women when pregnant, it is a 50/50 chance. Being someone who has been advocating that our health care system needs to be better because when you fall sick in Nigeria, it is always between you and God. I have been there when I broke my leg and it was just the mercy of God because there are certain things that happened that can just make you go crazy in the hospital. It is to encourage people. There are certain things I am passionate about though, it’s just that I am taking it one step at a time.

What’s the budget for the movie?
Don’t worry about that. I am not giving you the budget for now until when I finish the job. It has a lot of cost. My next plan is to complete the shooting abroad and I am working towards its premiere at the end of this year and I am going to do the premiere almost everywhere. I am working on a new strategy for everything, including the distribution.

Are you not scared that this work might be pirated?
Everybody is pretty having a nightmare, but that has not stopped us from bringing out contents; that is why we are pressurising that certain policies are being declared before the end of the year to help protect our works and that is what we are advocating for those policies to happen. But the producers have been working out plans. The government needs to come in with these policies and with enough machinery and enforcement to make these things to happen.

What was your growing up like?
My parents were a little bit flexible. It was not that they were not comfortable with my being an actress. Because I have always been bigger than my age, my father always said I was growing like a tolo tolo (Turkey). He said I should ensure my brain grew with me. To them, you just had to know the reason you wanted to do anything. Like me, coming into this industry, I keep asking myself and asking God every day the purpose I am in this industry because life is all about growth. Over time, people will say you have impacted, but it has to be more than that. You have to also find a way of reaching to the people and affect their lives. We are eight in number. I am the sixth and the third girl. I am not the only one in the showbiz. I don’t know what happened to my elder brother, he was supposed to be a big time producer in Nollywood, but it seems he is more interested in show promotions and other things. Also, my younger sister, who is an up-and-coming gospel singer, also has another sister who is also into presenting and online stuff. We are all virtually more or less into showbiz.

Lists of The Richest and Most Powerful Babes In Nollywood

Four elements contribute to the success of a movie at the box-office. They include good script, experienced director, professional publicist, and most importantly, the big name stars.

Of all the four, there is one a producer should never violate at the market place and that is the ‘star’ aspect of it. There could be a bad script, inexperienced director and not too good publicity for the movie but it is almost impossible to have Return On Investment (ROI) with un-bankable stars.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde:

On the list is Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde with box-office gross of N60 million. She made N24 million with Last Flight to Abuja, N6 million from Private Storm and her N30 million share in Ije bring her total earning to N60 million.

This year alone, no actress has made as much as N24 million from a single movie; Funke Akindele would have done so with The Return of Jenifa but the movie hit the box office in 2011.

Omotola, who was reported to have been paid N5 million by Tarila Thompson all in the bid to make his movie a blockbuster, has been described as the biggest box office actress of 2012. She recorded successes back to back but it remains to be seen if she can pull off the box office magic again with Amina and other movies coming in 2013.

Omotola has been an A-list actress even before Genevieve got her first big break and so what has been working for her is the wise investment in her brand. Her enduring presence and unceasing contact with her fans via the social media has made her popular even in an environment where a mother of four like her is not fashionable.

Genevieve Nnaji:
Next is Genevieve Nnaji. Love or hate her, Genny as she is fondly called, has a way with cinema audiences that make them come back again and again for her movies.

So far, Genevieve’s starring in the movies has grossed over N83 million at the box office. Mirror Boy (described by the actress as her first major film and the first to put her at the box-office) made N18 million, while Ije netted N60 million turning out to be Nigeria’s highest grossing movie ever. But Genevieve had to share the money with Omotola, who also acted alongside her. If the sharing formula is 50-50, then Genevieve gets N30 million of the total gross.

Genevieve’s next movie, Tango with Me went on to make N35 million. So, putting all the figures together, Genny remains at the head of the pack. What seem to be working for Genevieve are her enduring power, popularity and social media connection. The actress has been there for over a decade and is still waxing stronger. Her wine seems to taste better with age.

Another plus for Genny is her popularity. Genevieve is hugely popular across Africa and most especially among the youths. Before now, she has been very active on the social media especially Twitter. She even had to put up a Facebook advert after reports emerged that some acts were ahead of her there.

Funke Akindele:
Surprisingly, the third person on the list is Funke Akindele, a young lady who rose to fame in I Need To Know, a TV series, and went on to earn a monstrous fame with Jenifa.

Funke is an unlikely candidate on this list. Now, how can one explain that she is third on a list parading heavy weights like Omoni Oboli, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Stephanie Okereke among others?

So far, Funke has made over N56 million, netting over N20 million in 2012 alone. In The Return of Jenifa, Funke netted N35 million. The movie ran till February 2012. Her movie, Married but Living Single made N9.9 million while Maami made N11 million. The actress is on her way to another cinema glory with a movie, A Wish. Let’s hope she will be able to wave the magical wand again and create a box-office success.

For Funke who recently got married, the plus factor for her is her huge popularity among the masses and elites. Her movie, Jenifa cuts across all social groups with the street parlance in it becoming the mode of communication in social gathering. And as an icing on the cake, Funke has moved upscale, she is now the toast of events organized by the rich and not so rich. Her box office credibility transcends the cinema as all DVDs parading her face turn into gold.

Omoni Oboli:
Omoni Oboli, who is still largely unknown to those who don’t patronise the cinema and social media, is fourth on the list. She is a silent achiever. Before the trio of Genevieve, Omotola and Funke even dreamt of hitting the box office, Omoni Oboli already took the lead. Figurine, her first box office appearance made N13 million while her second effort, Anchor Baby made N18 million bringing her total earning to N31million.

Omoni’s strength is her exclusivity and knack for quality. It is a known fact that if the project is not big and ambitious, Omoni might not do it. The disadvantage of that is, despite her box office credibility, Omoni is still unknown in areas where there is no access to cinemas. Perhaps, that is the reason she tries to make up with the red carpet presence.

For now, the exclusivity is working for Omoni; perhaps her new movie, Broken and other works will introduce a new twist. One other thing that should not be forgotten is the unprecedented publicity of Anchor Baby in 2010. The film also had Omoni at the forefront of meeting and greeting of fans at the cinemas.

Nse Ikpe-Etim:
The fifth slot belongs to Nse Ikpe-Etim. She seems to be the latest sensation in big budget movies. In Mr and Mrs, Nse was a delight, her performance was a reference point and it was a hook that kept drawing people to the cinema while the movie was there.

Mr and Mrs made N6 million while another of her film, Phone Swap made N20 million, making a total of N26 million.

Too early for Nse to cement her place, as she hasn’t done N15 million back-to-back but one thing the actress has made clear is that she has intention of doing that. The leading four acts should be afraid of Nse because her strength lies in her pure acting talent.

Nse is born to act, deemed to be unnecessarily assertive a times, but you can’t accuse her of not knowing her lines. And she pushes her movies with virgour, moving from one cinema to the other.

However, Nse should watch it as many have accused her of being too ‘self-conscious’, a term casually used for budding stars who have ‘over-hyped’ impression of themselves as this could alienate fans who make the box-office count.

Rita Dominic and Stephanie Okereke
Rita Dominic and Stephanie Okereke should readily make the list but they haven’t appeared at the cinemas more than once. Hopefully, Rita will break into the list with The Meeting, Lion of 76 and Street of Calabar while Stephanie already had N10 million under her belt with Through the Glass.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rules. A bankable star makes easier the job of a producer; the absence of one, however, is not a ready-made doom for a movie as Avatar and Slumdog Millionaire (both global box office hits) have shown. But if one would take a risk or err, it’s better to err on the part of caution.

Wikipedia defines a bankable star to be an actor famous or charismatic enough to be “capable of guaranteeing box-office success simply by showing up in a movie”. It is common knowledge that a Will Smith will sell any movie no matter how bad as long as he has his face on the jacket.

In Nigeria, some movie stars have proven again and again that they can guarantee return on investment as long as their faces adorn the poster. They are Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Genevieve Nnaji, Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele and Nse Ikpe-Etim.

Former BBA Star, Prezzo Almost Shot An Army Officer Dead

Rapper, Ex Big Brother Contestant and Late Goldie's lover, Prezzo flew back to Kenya two days ago after a month tour in US.
Early Saturday morning the rapper was involved in a gun drama with a military officer. According to Standard Digital reports, Kenyan police have launched a man hunt for the 'Rapcellency' after he allegedly assaulted a Swiss military officer in the head with gun butt and holster over a parking space at about 3AM Saturday morning.
Following a statement by Gigiri Division police boss Vitalis Otieno, Prezzo had obstructed the military colonel

“When the military officer came back ready to go, an argument broke out over the parking slot which degenerated to an assault using a gun. We want him to report at Parklands,”
Prezzo was said to have tried to cock and shoot at the officer who was bleeding at that time. The police boss said Prezzo was restrained by his bodyguards who dragged him to his car and drove off.
