Notorious Kidnapper Killed as Police Rescue Abducted Woman in Cross River; 6 Ritualists Nabbed in Ogun

The Nigeria Police anti-kidnapping squad has killed a suspected kidnapper in Okoyong, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Two of the kidnap kingpin’s cohorts escaped during the operation that saw the release of an abducted victim, a woman whose name is yet to be released.

Vanguard reports that one of the suspects used the phone of the victim to contact family members to demand a ransom.

With the number being tracked, the caller was invited to a particular spot where he was shot dead and taken to Okoyong. Only, his colleagues escaped through a bush track in the area after a gun duel with the police.

Items recovered from the kidnappers’ hideout include guns, charms and other small weapons, while the suspect’s lifeless body was seen at the anti-kidnapping squad at the cultural centre in the state capital Calabar.

The incident has been confirmed by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Ms Irene Ugbo, who said the kidnapper was gunned down on Friday before promising that her men will apprehend the two escaped gang members and others involved in terrorising the state.

“The incident is true; our officers arrested the suspect while others escaped. We shall get to them soon. However, the victim, a woman has been rescued,” Ms Ugbo said.

Meanwhile, Channels is reporting that six members of a syndicate that specialises in human killings for ritual purposes have been arrested by the Ogun State police command.

Ogun State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu said they were arrested at different locations in the state capital and Owode Egba areas of the state.

Items recovered from the suspects include different human parts and charms.

Rapper Nelly Arrested for Allegedly Raping a Woman in Washington

Nelly has been charged with second degree rape.

According to TMZ, the American rapper, born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., was arrested on Saturday after a woman accused him of raping her early this morning in Washington State. Nelly was scheduled to perform tonight in Ridgefield, Washington but now is in the custody of the police.

Another news source, KCPQ, added that the alleged victim told the police she joined Nelly’s tour bus after his performance Friday night at White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Washington, that the alleged rape incident happened at around 3:45 am today.

The police said they found probable cause to arrest the artiste and he is currently being held at the South Correctional Entity jail in Des Moines on charges of second degree rape.

The rapper’s team has yet to speak up as at press time.

Breaking: Nigeria Qualify for 2018 World Cup

Nigeria have booked a spot at the 2018 World Cup after beating Zambia 1-0 in a keenly contested match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday.

It’s a sixth World Cup appearance for the Super Eagles, who join hosts Russia, defending champions Germany, five-time winners Brazil and 9 others to already qualify for the Mundial.

The victory gave the Eagles an unassailable six points lead in CAF qualifying Group B, eliminating the Chipolopolo of Zambia who needed a win to take the qualifiers to the final matchday.

Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda said pre-match that they’d come to pick all three points and true to his word, his young side matched the Eagles for long spells of the end-to-end tie in Uyo.

After a tight opening, Fashion Sinkala found space in the Eagles area after 10 minutes only to see his left-footed drive sail harmlessly wide.

Nigeria responded with the clearest chance of the opening half after Moses Simon’s square pass from the right was narrowly missed by a lounging Odion Ighalo.

Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was at full stretch to deny Augustine Mulenga’s 30-yard drive, while Ighalo blasted wide from inside the area after good work from Victor Moses at the other end. The Eagles lost some of the edge in the midfield, particularly after the injury to Ogenyi Onazi.

It was largely a scrimmage in the second period until substitute Alex Iwobi fired in Shehu Abdullahi’s cut-back to send the home fans into raptures.

Zambia responded with a number of half chances late on, but the Eagles held firm for the priceless three points and a place among football elites next summer.

Trouble? Shakira Moves out of Gerard Pique's Home

If rumours are anything thing to go by, pop sensation, Shakira and husband Gerard Pique have separated after six years together.
Sources in Spain say the Colombian singer initiated the move on the grounds that she could ‘no longer cope with the situation’ with her footie husband as she moves out of their home in Barcelona.

“It’s something serious and she has been the one who has finally made the decision,” the source said, as per Metro.

The couple have two sons together – four-year-old Milan and two-year-old Sasha – and were last spotted together in June at the wedding of Pique’s Barcelona teammate, Lionel Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo, with Shakira posting a happy snap of the pair on Instagram.

A post shared by Shakira (@shakira) on

The surprise split comes weeks after Shakira, 40, spoke of the importance of family, revealing that they put it first in all of their decisions.

“We try to do the best we can. There’s a lot of love; that’s the foundation of any family. You have to take care of it and dedicate time. Family is the most important thing for me; the rest is secondary,” she told HOLA! USA’s September issue.

Only recently, Pique poured cold water on reports that he and Shakira are on the verge of splitting by sharing a sweet family photo which he captioned: ‘#Sunday Family time!’, while also tagging her in the snap.

It’s been a stormy week for the 30-year-old defender who had to endure boos as Spain beat Albania 3-0 to book a spot in the 2018 World Cup.

Pique is a staunch supporter of Catalan independence and had threatened to quit Spain over the referendum vote.

Protests after assassination of Mozambique mayor on 'Day of Peace'

Residents in Mozambique’s northeastern city of Nampula engaged in protests over the assassination of their mayor, Mahumudo Amurane.

According to reports, the mayor was shot dead on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, in front of his house. Amurane, a known anti-corruption crusader, was shot three times in his abdomen by unknown assailants according to police.

The day in question happened to be the ‘Day of Peace,’ an occasion on which the Mozambican government celebrates a peace accord ending years of war.

The 2017 edition marks the 25th anniversary of the day the country signed the Rome Peace deal. The said deal was signed between the ruling Frelimo and main opposition Renamo in 1992 as the formal end to a 16-year civil war.

People of Nampula, Mozambique’s third biggest city, took to the streets to protest the murder and to call for action to be taken. Social media photos shared by a Human Rights Watch researcher showed people burning tyres in the middle of roads.

The motive for the killing is not known as police continue their investigations. He won his mandate with the opposition Mozambique Democratic Movement but was planning to seek re-election as an independent candidate after a fallout. The next municipal elections are scheduled for 2018.

I do not know how Evans was able to lure me into this crime - Civil engineering graduate laments

53 -year-old suspected robber and kidnapper, Linus Opara, in his statement to newsmen said he is yet to understand how Evans, who did not attend any school, was able to lure him into kidnapping.

Linus, who is a Civil Engineering graduate said: ”Do not look at my white hair; it is not as a result of old age. Rather, my hair turned white because of long suffering after my graduation as a civil engineer from the University of Ibadan. It is still a surprise to me how an illiterate person like Evans was able to lure me into kidnapping and all his illicit business.

”I studied Civil Engineering in the University of Ibadan. I am married with four children and they are still schooling. My wife is a graduate of Accountancy from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), but she has not secured work till date.

“I am not anything to Evans. We only address him as chairman and sometimes as president of group of companies. I was arrested and taken to the State Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) building in Ikeja on 20th July, 2017.

“I saw Evans for the first time the day I supplied a nutrition supplement because I am a distributor. The second time I met Evans was when policemen took me from their cell to an unknown place in Lagos, because I was blindfolded. I could not see where they were taking me to.

”It was when they took me to Evans that they removed the blindfold and I saw him. I addressed him as Nwachinemelu. Police were asking both of us questions and I was answering accordingly.

“They asked me how many times I worked for Evans and I said two times, and that I turned him down the third time that he asked me to do another job. I told the police that I monitored victims for him and he paid me. I did not know the names of the victims.

”During the first work I did for him, he sent a motorcycle rider to meet me at Olowola Bus Stop. He gave my phone number to him and he called me. When I met him, I asked him where he was taking me to. He said he was taking me to Trade Fair area. So I entered (sic) his motorcycle and he took me to under the bridge at Trade Fair.

”He drove (rode) towards Mile 2 area. Evans called me and asked where we were and I told him. But he asked me to go home; that I had done well.

“When we reached Alakija, I told him and he said I should not worry myself; that he had told others to allow me to go to my house. When he called again, he asked me to send my bank account number to him. I sent my First Bank account number to him and he wired the sum of N2 million to my account. I was surprised.

”The second time, it was the same process as he already had my bank account number. He sent me the sum of N700,000.

“When he called me for the third job, I told him that I was not interested, because I started sensing some errors in the business, like getting afraid for the kind of money he was giving me. The money he was giving me in the twinkle of an eye was bigger than the money I used to make in a whole year as a civil engineer.”

Last night at the 2017 edition of the BET Hip Hop Awards held at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami, the Bodak Yellow rapper raked in all the best awards which include the Single of the Year, the Best New Artist and also the Hustler of the Year.

Just Jared reports that the 24-year-old Bronx rapper was joined on the Miami stage by her boyfriend, Offset from Migos, Blac Chyna, Lil Yachty, DJ Khaled and his longtime love, Nicole Tuck and their son, Asahd.

This heartwarming update comes barely two weeks after her Bodak Yellow moved from no. 2 to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the first female rapper to rule without any assistance from other acts since Lauryn Hill’s Doo Wop (That Thing) in 1998.

Cardi B is rising, and hopefully she will sustain the tempo.

Congratulations to her!

Vitali Klitschko Vows to Return to Boxing and Avenge Brother Wladimir’s Loss to Joshua

For Vitali Klitschko, boxing remains a family affair and he wants to make a sensational return to the ring to avenge his brother Wladimir’s defeat to Anthony Joshua.

Joshua, 28, won a knockout over Wladimir in their epic heavyweight clash April 29, and now Vitali fancies a crack at the Nigerian-born Brit whom he described as ‘lucky’.

Vitali takes some of the blame for the loss, saying he feels guilty for telling his brother to not be too active in round six as he felt Joshua would tire out with his muscular physique, Sun writes.

AJ
Wladimir dropped Joshua in the sixth round but didn’t do enough to end the tie, allowing the younger fighter to recover from the knockdown in round six to come back and stop him in round 11.

“It was great fight of Wladimir and Joshua, great fight,” Vitali said on FightHubTV.

“I feel a bit guilty, because I told to Wladimir in the corner please don’t be so active in round number six when Wladimir sent Joshua to the floor.

“I expect a big-muscled athlete to not recover, I was surprised, Joshua recovered so fast and stopped Wladimir.

“If I didn’t tell him to stop, then Wladimir might have knocked him out, six or maybe round number seven.”

Klitschkos

A former WBC heavyweight champion, Vitali, 46, defended the title ten times before retiring in 2012 to focus on a career in politics.

He pointed to times in the past he and his brother have defended each other against heavyweight opponents, adding he wants to bring the belts back to his family.

“A fight against Joshua is my best wish. I have a feeling I can do it better, I have to fight Joshua and bring back the belt to the family.

“Wladimir was for a long time the best heavyweight in the world. Joshua stopped him and this means he is the best one.

“But that was just a lucky fight, a lucky day for Joshua.”

Bayern Munich Appoint Former Coach Juup Heynckes Until End of Season

Bayern Munich have named former coach Jupp Heynckes as their manager until the end of the season following the sack of Carlo Ancelotti last week.

Ancelotti was shown the door last week after Bayern’s humiliating Champions League loss at Paris Saint-Germain.

It will be a fourth spell for Heynckes at Bayern, who left the role in 2013 after guiding the side to a historic Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup treble.

“I would not have returned to any other club in the world,” the 72-year-old tactician said.

“Bayern Munich is very close to my heart. My coaching staff and I will now do everything to bring back successful football for the fans. I’m very much looking forward to this challenge.”

Former Real Madrid manager Heynckes had considered quitting the game in 2013 after he was replaced by Pep Guardiola, but he will now take over at the Allianz Arena on Monday in preparation for their Bundesliga clash at home to SC Freiburg on Saturday 14 October.

His immediate task will be to unite the dressing room that went into chaos during the final days of Ancelotti at the club.

The Bavarians presently trail table-toppers Borussia Dortmund by five points.

2018 World Cup: Spain Clinch Ticket, Italy Frustrated

Spain secured a ticket for the 2018 World Cup with a routine 3-0 home win over Albania to seal top spot in Group G ahead of Italy who were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at home to Macedonia.

In a match in Alicante marred by boos for Barcelona defender Gerard Pique over his quit threat following the Catalan referendum, Spain crossed the line with first-half goals from Rodrigo, Isco and Thiago Alcantara to the relief of coach Julen Lopetegui.

“We had to concentrate solely on football,” Lopetegui told Spanish TV station Teledeporte.

“It has been a difficult, complicated week and fortunately we managed to do that in a very, very good first 30 minutes.”

Fumbling four-time World Cup winners Italy are now headed for the November play-offs after Macedonian substitute Aleksandar Trajkovski’s 77th-minute equaliser cancelled out a first-half goal by Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Serbia meanwhile, missed out on a chance to wrap up qualification from Group D with a match to spare as Louis Schaub struck a minute from time to give Austria a dramatic victory in Vienna.

Serbia, who could have sealed a spot in Russia with victory, led through an early Luka Milivojevic goal but fell behind as Austria replied through efforts from Guido Burgstaller and Marko Arnautovic.

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic drew level on 83 minutes after efforts from Guido Burgstaller and Marko Arnautovic had cancelled out Luka Milivojevic’s opener.

But Schaub’s winner ensured that Serbia would have to wait until their home tie against Georgia on Monday before punching a ticket for the Mundial.

Iceland continued their impressive march towards a maiden World Cup appearance with an impressive 3-0 win over Turkey in Eskisehir that leaves the hosts all but out of the running.

Goals from Johann Gudmundsson, Birkir Bjarnason and Kari Arnason pulled Iceland two points clear of Croatia at the top of Group I after the latter were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Finland.

Suge Knight Accuses Dr. Dre of Paying $20k to Have Him Killed

Suge Knight has accused Dr. Dre of spending $20,000 to have him killed.

According to TMZ, the rap mogul filed this claim in documents submitted in court recently, alleging that the mercenary his former Death Row Records colleague employed for the job was a man named Dwayne Johnson.

Knight said he and a private investigator met Johnson in July 2016, that they both saw the said cheque Dr. Dre wrote for partial payment for “Dwayne Johnson to participate in (his) murder.” He added that the killing was intended for same day in January 2015 when Knight was involved in that hit-and-run accident that left another man dead.

Recall that Suge Knight was remanded in prison after he ran over Terry Carter in 2015 during the filming of the NWA biopic. At first, Knight was kicked out of the movie location but he returned and ended up running over two men, killing one. After he was arrested, Suge claimed he returned to the site to make peace with Dr Dre but had to flee for his life when the man he ran over attempted to shoot him.

Thus, Suge Knight accused Dr. Dre of ordering his death and requested for the court to allow his team to comb through Dre’s records to prove their claims. But Dre’s lawyers called the accusation “absurd” and TMZ adds that the judge has denied the motion, tossing the accusation out of court.

This is a big L for Suge Knight.

‘Do not Starve Your Husband of Sex to Avoid Problems’- Oritsefemi Warns

It’s been one hell of a week for the Nigerian woman, and it is all thanks to our celebrities who continue to encourage patriarchal practices.

It began with Tiwa Savage insisting that the man is the head of the family, then Seun Jimoh who threatened violence on career women, and in walks Oritsefemi who is sounding off a warning to women who dare to deny their husbands sex.

Speaking with Punch, Oritsefemi who is expecting a child with his wife, Nabila Fash, said the woman would be attracting problems into her home if she denies her husband sex. And, oh, he also brags about sexing his wife properly when she wants it.

But the bottomline according to his gospel is this: whether you want it or not, you, the woman, should not deny the man sex.

Read the definition of ‘marriage’ according to Oritsefemi:

“Marriage is something that you have to be very diplomatic about. You have to be very careful and know what you are doing because it has its ups and downs. No marriage is perfect. Some people think that marriage is all about money but it is not. It takes God and the couple to understand each other. Some people talk about cheating in marriage and that is why I sang in my song, ‘Igbeyawo,’ that women should not starve their husband of sex. If you do that, it would bring problems in your home.”

Wawuu! Me I’m not understanding this gospel. But Oritsefemi isn’t done.

“I don’t want lack of sex to be a problem in my marriage. Any time my wife wants to have sex, I would always give it to her, at any time.

“Sex should not be the problem. Money could cause problems but don’t let sex be the problem. Get close to your wife and try to understand when she needs it. As a wife, you also need to know when your husband needs to have sex. It pains me when I hear that lack of sex is the cause of some people’s marital crisis. I would rather hear a woman say that she wants her husband to work harder.”

‘Eedris Saved Your Life When Cult Boys Wanted to Kill You!’- Rafioso Blasts Timaya

Show promoter, Rafioso, has waded into the ongoing beef between Timaya and Eedris Abdulkareem, and he thinks the Bayelsa singer has treated his former boss unkindly.

In case you missed how it all started: Eedris went on Goldmyne TV to express his disappointment with the quality of work the Bayelsa singer has been churning out in recent times. That criticism didn’t sit well with Timaya because the singer took to his Instagram to drag Eedris for filth.

“I was your backup artiste and you were not even appreciative. Did you even know my name? You regarded me like a nobody…I paid my transport to your shows because I was learning. You never paid me…How many people don blow through you? How many people have you helped? Where is them Rafioso, all those people wey dey with you?,” Timaya spat in his scathing Instagram video.

Well, Rafioso is speaking up now and he is telling a different side of Timaya’s history with Eedris, how the rapper saved the singer, provided and clothed him.

Here’s what he told Punch:

“There was a time we went for a show at Ogun State University. I was already asleep in my room during the show but I learnt that Timaya insisted that he wanted to perform last after Eedris was done with his performance. The show promoters were not comfortable with the arrangement because Eedris was his boss. Eedris agreed and when he went on stage, the tempo was very high but when it was Timaya’s turn to perform, they were not feeling him anymore. The people began to insult him and Timaya insulted them back. When he came down from the stage, the cult boys in the school followed him because they wanted to beat him up. The next thing I heard on my door was a loud bang, it was Eedris at my door shouting that I should wake up because the boys wanted to kill Timaya. We went to where Timaya was and brought him to my room where he slept that night. You can ask Timaya or the show promoter, Offshore, he would tell you the truth. Spydaman was at the show among other artistes. The cult boys began to look for Timaya for insulting them but we hid him in our room. Early in the morning, we had to move out.

“So when I saw what Timaya posted about Eedris, I felt it was like an insult. I don’t know why he called my name and said that I am nowhere to be found. You don’t say that. He should speak for himself and not for me. I am doing very well. I am an artiste and a show promoter; I also have other businesses I am into. I have houses and tenants. I don’t understand why Timaya mentioned my name. I was with Eedris for more than 16 years and he helped me. He showed me love just like he did to everybody.

“When I was Eedris’ back-up singer, he treated me in a very lovely manner. As a back-up artiste, it was not as if Eedris called me or Timaya, we were trying to be famous, so we had to go and meet him. We were serving him. To be honest, Eedris can cut his arm and leg just to help someone. Whenever they gave him money, there was a boutique where he normally bought clothes; he would call the owner of the shop to bring costumes. We would all pick costumes and Eedris would be the one to pay for them. After everything, he would still give us money. Timaya was not based in Lagos at the time, he was in Port-Harcourt and he only came down to Lagos anytime he heard we had a show. Whenever we had a show, we had a stand-by bus that conveyed us to the venue and back home but since Timaya was coming from Port-Harcourt, we could not wait for him so he had to come and meet us at the venue of the event. Eedris treated all of us fine.

“The problem is that when Timaya came, he did not come to Eedris as a singer but as a dancer. He is a very good dancer. Eedris could be harsh when he wants to advise you so he advised us on how to explore our different talents. As for me, I was into acting before I got in contact with Eedris, I was in Kiddies Vision 101 with Denrele. When I met Eedris, he advised me that I could sing because I have a good voice. He put me through and he encouraged me.”

“When I watched Timaya’s video and saw that he said Eedris did not treat him right, I did not understand what he meant. When I first joined the crew, I did not get to see Eedris all the time. He was always inside so we had to relate with his manager. He was not someone you could walk up to like that because there was protocol. The compound was very big so whenever we got to his place, we would sit under a tree and we ate whatever we wanted to eat because they would bring food for us. Timaya was not the only one with Eedris, there were so many people with him. I remember Eedris told Timaya then that he should stop singing and try to sing a song about his dialect or where he is from. I sincerely apologise on behalf of Eedris to the likes of Tuface, D’banj, Davido, Mr. Eazi and every other person he insulted except Timaya.”

Nigerian Man Arrested by Indian Police Over N16m Kidney Fraud

Indian-based Nigerian man, David Ujma Uba, 32, has been arrested by Indian Police for allegedly defrauding 20 people of 16 Million Naira, on the grounds that he would organise kidney donations for them.

This news is coming a few weeks after a gang of ten Nigerians were reportedly arrested for alleged fake funds transfer in India.

It was gathered that Uba, who lived in Kolkata, India went to the country four years ago on a tourist visa.

The Indian Police alleged that he created a fake hospital website and issued an advertisement, asking people in need of kidneys to get in touch with him. But, he reportedly did not deliver the kidneys after money had been transferred into his bank account.

The Times of India reports that Uba’s victims decided to register a complaint with Kolkata Cyber Crime Police in April.

Reports say that the culprit, on seeing that the police were after him, relocated to Tamil Nadu and then to Bengaluru. However, he was arrested after the Police traced him through the details of his phone calls.

Many arrests of fraudulent Nigerians by Indian police had been reported in the past. Recall that a few months ago, a Nigerian man identified as Ifeanyi Mike Mbaeze was arrested in the country for alleged debit card fraud.

Fast and Furious Feud: Vin Diesel Breaks Silence on The Rock and Tyrese Drama

In case you have not been following it: early in September, Tyrese called out The Rock for jumping the Fast and Furious ship for his own spin off show, saying that The Rock is trying to break the family that took him in late in the show.

The Rock did not oblige him with a response and yesterday, Tyrese returned to Instagram to insult the wrestler/actor, calling him a clown and promising to troll him for three years(the next film is slated to drop in April 2020).

The Rock still kept mum no matter the negative press, and yesterday, things got a little thick when Vin Diesel posted a photo of him, the late Paul Walker and Tyrese from earlier installments of the movie franchise. Many people assumed that to be a shade thrown at The Rock, like Vin is excluding The Rock from the Fast and Furious family.

But, Vin has finally spoken up, and though he did not tow the vulgar line Tyrese has become famous for, he made it known that he invited The Rock into the family and that they are facing challenges. However, there is some good news coming, he told fans.

This professional response has calmed some nerves.

Brotherhood... and all it's complexities. This scene was filmed in Puerto Rico, I can remember it like it was yesterday. Such a beautiful island, the people were so warm and welcoming. I turned 43 that summer... and my son Vincent was born. A woman named Jan Kelly responded to a question I had asked on Facebook, 'who they would like to see me work with?' She said would love to see me work with Dwayne... I listened to her request and he became Hobbs. I know there has been a lot of speculation as to why the Fast 9 release date was pushed... but it would be unfair to say it is anyone's fault. As we plot the course to expand the Fast & Furious universe, one must be mindful to take stock of the roads we took to get here. The pillars of authenticity, family and most importantly, our loyal fan’s perspective has been instrumental in procuring success. However, like any vehicle that has run around the globe 8 times, the franchise is in need of maintenance. My good friend and the godfather of Universal, Ron Meyer has granted me the time to do just that. We have some very exciting news to share soon... stay tuned. Yours truly, Dom #FamilyAlways

Buhari Calls Prison Congestion a National Scandal, Urges Judiciary to Take Action

President Muhammadu Buhari, while hosting Justices of the Supreme Court who paid him a courtesy visit on Friday, described the congestion of Nigerian prisons as a national scandal and urged the judiciary to take urgent steps to remedy the situation.

Members of the highest court in the land were led to the Presidential Villa for the visit by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon Justice Walter Onnoghen.

In his remarks, Buhari noted that many Nigerian prisons were overcrowded by as much as 90 percent, a challenge that needed to be quickly addressed by de-congesting the prisons.

“Urgent new measures should be put in place to speedily de-congest prisons not only in the interest of justice but also to save cost for prisons maintenance and enhance the welfare of prisoners,” Buhari said.

The president equally noted that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami had already requested that courts be established within prisons, in order to address the problem of logistics associated with the movement of suspects to courts during trials which had been contributing to prison congestion.

Buhari commended the judiciary for establishing special courts to speed up trial for corruption and other criminal cases, noting that government decided to increase the budgetary allocation to the Judiciary, in view of the role it plays.

“We are not unmindful of the daunting challenges faced by the judiciary in the areas of infrastructure and funding. This informed our decision to increase the judiciary’s budget in the 2017 fiscal year which we are committed to sustain. I have asked the Attorney General to take up this matter with the salaries and wages commission for advice to the President,” he said.

In his remarks, Justice Onnoghen thanked God for healing the president and promised that the judiciary would continue to do its best for the country.

The Vanguard reports that the CJN also thanked the federal executive council for its support and cooperation.
