Drake Donated A Recording Studio To Philadelphia High School

Drake's recent project If You're Reading This It's Too Late found him at his most egotistical, whether it be bragging about his wealth dismissing other rappers who aren't up to par with him, and being obsessed with his own crew, his own city. Among his braggadocious rhymes, Drizzy boasted of having two mortgages ($30 million in total)
and making significant purchases for the many women in his life.

With a platinum "mixtape" now secured, it's safe to say Drake isn't hurting for pocket change. The rapper put some of that pocket change to good use, when he donated $75,000 to Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia. The money helped create a new recording studio for the school, which is located in one of the poorest and most dangerous parts of the city.
The studio was actually completed last summer, but they've only now found someone to be their music instructor, and so the students will finally be able to start using the new studio.

The principal, Linda Cliatt- Wayman, said, "We thought we were going to be ready to go in September. They've been dying to get in."

Billboard reports that Drake was first moved to make a donation after he saw an ABC News segment about Wayman's efforts to improve the school. When he visited the city during a tour in October 2013, he invited a few individuals from the school community to a private pre-show event, where he announced
the donation.

"This is about you. This is about
your principal. This is about your future," Drake told them. "I love you. I care about you. I want to see you succeed."

Drake hasn't spoken publicly about the donation.

Jay Z Has Successfully Acquired Swedish Streaming Company, "Aspiro"

Jay Z's bid for music streaming company, Aspiro, has been accepted.

Streaming seems to be the future of music distribution, and those looking to make a penny are investing now. Never one to miss an opportunity to get a head start in the business side of music, Jay Z made a $56 million bid for Swedish streaming company, Aspiro, which
owns WiMP and Tidal, two systems that specialize in "high fidelity" streaming.

While early reports claimed that Hov may be blocked from purchasing the company, it's now been confirmed that his bid was accepted. As far as what Jay will do with it, we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully he has plans to lower the price, which currently stands at $19.99/ month USD, a good double the price of Spotify. If Neil Young's PONO is any indication, people are not willing to shell out money for lossless music at this time.

With Beats Music set to be pre-installed on all Apple devices, Jay will also be going head to head with Dre's Beats service. The streaming wars should be interesting.

D’banj, Don Jazzy and Wande Coal not paid for joint performance

Nigerian music lovers this morning woke to a video shared by Don Jazzy where, alongside D’banj and Wande Coal, he performed the hit tune from their Mo’Hits days, ‘ Pere ‘ at the 50th birthday celebration of Segun Oniru, Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development.

Here’s the real connection. The celebrant, Segun Oniru, a Lagos prince, is reputed as D’banj’s godfather and one of the big men behind the Kokomaster for years. In fact, word on the street is that he was financially responsible for the coming to Lagos of Amber Rose for D’banj’s 10th anniversary kick-off party.

Just so you know, the celebrant is best of friends with Folly Coker (believed to be the sponsor of Don Jazzy and Mavin Records), so the connection is tight as these are men who have over the years been instrumental to the success of the 3 music stars and have invested
in their brands and careers over the years.

The least they could do was to honour him with a surprise performance on the occasion of his Golden Jubilee.

Did Young Thug Diss Rich Homie Quan On Stage?

Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan have made some beautiful music together, so we were a bit disappointed to hear that Rich Homie Quan was planning to work on solo material rather than further pursuing the Rich Gang project.

It seems as though Young Thug may feel similarly, according to a statement he made on stage during his Rodeo tour with Travis Scott. While he could be joking, Thug seemed pretty serious when he referenced "the video," (which
we assume is the interview we mentioned earlier ), calling the rapper a "lame," and referring to him as "Bitch Homie Quan".

"Speaking of horses.. You saw the fucking video, man. This stupid lame, that n--ga tripping. That Bitch Homie Quan," said Thug.

Meanwhile, Young Thug took to Instagram last night and cleared the air that there's no beef with Rich Homie Quan. However, he didn't explain what he was talking about in the video and Rich Homie is yet to comment.
