How Kenyan Athlete Recho Kosgei was ‘Abandoned’ After Collapsing at Warsaw Marathon

It was just 800m to the finishline at the Warsaw marathon when Kenyan athlete, Recho Kosgei, suddenly stopped, wobbled and collapsed to the shock of millions around the world.

Kosgei, 32, was in the lead in the IAAF Bronze label race in the Polish capital before dropping in a heap and, bizarrely, there was no medical team in sight to help the stricken athlete.

She’d opened up a near three-minute lead when disaster struck, and for another three minutes there was no help, absolutely no one in sight until two runners approached her.

While there are obvious questions as to why an IAAF bronze label event would be so poorly organised, even more disturbing is the thought that this may not have happened to one of the local athletes.

“I missed my water from 30km to 40km,” said Kosgei, on arrival at the airport in Nairobi on Monday.

“I was still strong, but after that I just found myself on the ground.

“I was already dehydrated, my legs were paralysed. I just found myself lying down with no assistance from anybody from the race.

“It was something like negligence.”

As she was left prone with only the inexperienced runner to attend to her, Ethiopian Bekelu Beji strode past both of them and went on to win the women’s race.

“I laid there for fifteen minutes and no one was willing to help me. I didn’t receive any assistance from anyone” said Kosgei, whose medical reports indicated she suffered severe dehydration and low sugar.

“I’m ok. I’ve recovered. I feel traumatised but I’m strong and can make it again,” a smiling Kosgei said.

Watch her speak here:

Meanwhile, organisers of the event have released a statement claiming they didn’t come to Kosgei’s rescue in order for her not to be disqualified.

“When the athlete fell down, the leading car stopped and we contacted her manager and the ambulance but the athlete was still struggling to continue with the race. According to the international regulations, we are not supposed to help her because she will be disqualified,” said Magdalena Srocka from Warsaw Marathon Foundation.

The IAAF has yet to react to the incident.

Saudi Arabia Finally Allows Women to Drive

After years of banning woman from driving, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday said all women in the country are now free to drive, thereby ending a policy seen globally as a symbol of oppression.
The lifting of the ban was announced in a royal decree read on National television.

But women still have to wait for at lest another eight months before they can drive.
The New York Times reports that the change will take effect in June 2018.

The ban on women from driving has been a dent on the international reputation of the country, as women have had to hire male drivers or have a male relative drive them to work and other places.
“It is amazing,” said Fawziah al-Bakr, a Saudi university professor who was among 47 women who participated in the kingdom’s first protest against the ban — in 1990.

“Since that day, Saudi women have been asking for the right to drive, and finally it arrived,” she said by phone. “We have been waiting for a very long time.

The women who participated in the 1990 protest were arrested and some of them were sacked from their work places.

Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest sites, is an absolute monarchy ruled according to Shariah law.
The official reasons for stopping women from driving  range from  it being inappropriate in Saudi culture for women to drive, or that male drivers would not know how to handle having women in cars next to them. Others argued that allowing women to drive would lead to promiscuity and the collapse of the Saudi family.

In fact, one cleric claimed that driving harmed women’s ovaries but did not provide any evidence to back up the claim.

“This is a historic big day in our kingdom,” Prince Khaled bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the US, said on Tuesday in a briefing with reporters.

Salman described the step as “part of Vision 2030, which is a huge step toward a brighter future.”
He explained that the country’s economic reinvention plan rests on key pillars such as youth empowerment, social organization and women’s empowerment, “which is an extremely important element of the changes happening in Saudi Arabia,” the ambassador said.

“We are trying to increase women’s participation in the workforce,” bin Salman said.
“In order to change women’s participation in the workforce we need them to be able to drive to work,” said bin Salman, who is a son of the current king and a brother of the crown prince. “We need them to move forward, we need them to improve our economy.”

17 Cases Filed In Court Over Magu’s Retention as EFCC Acting Chair

At least 17 cases have been filed at different courts across the country over the retention of Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Lawyers in one of the cases filed before Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court in Abuja told the court on Tuesday that a related case was filed in the Yola Division of the court in Adamawa State, while another case on the same subject is before the Kano Division of the Federal High Court, the Punch reports.

It was learnt that some of the 17 cases were in support of Magu, while the rest sought Magu’s removal from office on the grounds that he had been rejected by the Senate.

One of the pro-Magu suits was the one being heard by Justice Kolawole on Tuesday. During the hearing, two lawyers, representing two different law firms, presented separate letters of engagement to them to represent the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and the Senate.

While Mr. S. O. Alhassan presented a letter, which engaged his law firm in June, Mr. Peter Abang presented a letter briefing his law firm in August.

The judge directed the two lawyers to sort out the conflicting briefs they got from the Senate before the next hearing date for the particular suit, which was filed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Jibrin Okutepa.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the AGF, the National Assembly, the Senate and Saraki are the respondents to this suit.

Meanwhile, Musa Abdul, who represented the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), told the court that the  AGF had written to the former Chief Judge of the court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, seeking the consolidation of the cases.

He said the AGF’s office was aware of 10 cases in respect of Magu’s chairmanship of the EFCC. He argued that it was necessary to have all the cases merged and heard by one judge to avoid a situation where judges will give conflicting rulings on the case.

But one of the two lawyers, seeking to represent the Senate and Saraki in the case, Abang, said he was aware of 17 cases, not 10.

There are, in fact, 17 cases on this subject matter. In fact, I will be appearing before Justice A. R. Mohammed in another case concerning the subject matter immediately I leave this court.
“We also have a similar suit in the Kano Division of the court,” he added.

He said his law firm had also formally requested the Chief Judge to consolidate the cases.
After listening to the parties, Justice Kolawole directed them to bring to the attention of the Acting Chief Judge of the FHC, Justice Abdu Kafarati, efforts that had been made to get the cases heard by one judge.

The rejection of Magu by the Senate sparked a disagreement between the executive and the Senate. After the presidency decided to keep Magu in an acting position, the Senate vowed it would no longer entertain the confirmation of nominees from the Presidency.

Wanted Boko Haram Kingpin Arrested in Ondo

The fight against insurgency received a boost after a wanted Boko Haram terrorist kingpin was arrested in Ondo State, south-west Nigeria.

This was made known in a statement signed by the director of Army Public relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman, who said the arrest was carried out by the Ondo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force.

According to Gen. Usman, the suspect, Idris Ibrahim Babawo, 42, who also goes by the nicknames “Idoko” and “Nagada”, was nabbed on Sunday 24th September 2017 at about 2pm.

He was one of the terrorists declared wanted by the Nigerian Army at the height of the insurgency in the north-east, Vanguard writes.

“Babawo is believed to be on serial number 156 on the wanted Boko Haram terrorists list,” the statement read.

“He was handed over to the 32 Brigade, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, at about 2pm on Monday 25th September 2017 by the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the terrorist kingpin hailed from Chinade village, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He escaped from the North East due to military onslaught on the terrorists with a view to evade arrest and prosecution. But nemesis caught up with him.”

A number of Boko Haram commanders have been arrested by the Nigerian Army since intensifying operations in the north-east, forcing the terrorists to resort to ambushes and raid on soft targets.

Lawyers Call for Arrest of Lawmaker Over Sexual Abuse of Widow

Lawyers of a widow, Mercy Ilesanmi, who alleges she was sexually and physically harassed by a lawmaker identified as Dare Pelemo in Ekiti state, on Tuesday, said a petition had been forwarded to Ekiti Sate Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Chafe, calling for the arrest of the lawmaker.

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in the state has reportedly also demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the lawmaker on allegations of sexual harassment and physical assault on Ilesanmi.

The accused lawmaker, who represents Ekiti East Constituency 2, is said to have fondled the woman’s breasts on September 6, at the Assembly complex.

Part of her statement reads:

“I came to visit the honourable member representing my constituency, Hon. Samuel Omotoso but I met his absence.

“On my way out, I met Hon. Dare Pelemo and we exchanged pleasantries. Immediately, he fondled my breasts and I asked him what was the meaning of that, I am a married woman for that matter and I don’t like how he touched my breast.

“He now said that I am an enemy of government, that I do not suppose to come to the Assembly. I now asked him that, is that the reason why you are touching my breasts, a married woman for that matter? I challenged him that Pelemo, that one is too much for you.

“I went to report the matter to Hon Akinyele and I met the Clerk in Hon Akinyele’s office with two other visitors with him. He was on phone but I waited.”

She added that the lawmaker emerged with some thugs, who started beating her and destroying things in the office, asking her what she was doing at the House of Assembly complex.

FIDA legal officer in the state, Kemi Atitebi, disclosed on Tuesday that the body received a complaint of sexual harassment and assault of Mrs. Ilesanmi against Pelemo, but the legislator shunned the invitation to come and defend himself against the allegation.

It was gathered that Pelemo did not respond to several phone calls to his mobile line and has also not replied to text messages sent to him, Daily Trust reports.

Sexual harassment, especially as it concerns women, is a menace that every right-thinking human being must condemn. It is as a result of this that the renowned Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic, once slammed Nigerian popular comedians, AY and Helen Paul, for normalising sexual assault against women.

British Airways to Probe Video of Flight Hostess Making Racist Comments About Nigerians

Popular airline, British Airways has announced that it is investigating a video of one of its hostesses making racist comments about Nigerians.

The controversial video was said to have been recorded just before a flight from the Heathrow airport in the United Kingdom (UK) to the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport in Abuja on Friday and posted on social media platform Snapchat.

The footage was recorded in her car and has been circulated among shocked cabin crew who reported it to BA.

In a statement issued by the airline on Monday, the management said: ‘We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways. We are investigating this video.’

In the video, the flight attendant made jokes about the private organs of Nigerian men who would be on the London – Abuja flight.

‘All Nigerians are going to be asking for f****** upgrades,’ she said.

She went further to say, ‘All the Nigerians are gonna be there like ‘gimme Coca Cola, gimme me beef, why you have no beef left? I want beef.’

‘And I’m just gonna be there like, ‘Sorry sir, we ran out of beef’.

‘All the Nigerians are gonna be there asking for f****** upgrades because they haven’t got enough leg room because their B**s are in their way. Big d**** like this swinging from side to side.’

During the one-minute clip, broadcast on Snapchat, the blonde female worker also revealed how she was going to deal with passengers on the six-hour flight.

A source within British Airways who spoke with Daily Mail claims the airline’s management had initially failed to act even after other crew members had reported the erring flight attendant until the video was shared online and began to attract criticism.

Blame Game After Over 20 Injured in Nigerian Cup Clash Between Sunshine and Osun

Violent scenes marred the Aiteo Cup quarterfinal match between Sunshine Stars  and Osun United at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State,  as both clubs now turn on each other.

Over 20 persons allegedly sustained serious injuries while over 10 vehicles  were destroyed as both sets of fans clashed following a free-for-all after the referee  sounded the final whistle.

Punch reports that match officials had to run for their lives at the end of the tie that saw Akure-based Sunshine win 3-1 to progress on a 3-2 aggregate score.

It was learnt that the fans’ wrath was incurred after a questionable call against Osogbo-based Osun United, who needed a second goal to advance, having won the first leg 1-0.

Eyewitnesses said suspected Sunshine fans then vandalised the  vehicles which brought Osun United fans to the stadium during the pitch invasion, and destroyed some property at the stadium in the process.

But the Ondo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, blames Osun United for the mayhem that broke out.

“Some minutes before the end of the match, Osun United supporters invaded the field,  beating and harassing both the match officials and players and it took the intervention of the security operatives at the stadium to save the situation,” he said.

“Most of the supporters, officials and fans were not so lucky as they were injured after being attacked with machetes by the supporters from Osun who seemed prepared for the onslaught.”

Meanwhile, Osun State Commissioner for Sports, Biyi Odunlade, blames Sunshine and Gateway FC supporters for the attack.

“They broke windscreens of five of our buses and we saw them do it but I pleaded with our people not to retaliate.
“We were more in number than them and it would have been brutal if our people had fought back. So, we didn’t attack them but they attacked us.”

The League Management Company, LMC, has yet to rule on the incident.

Modeling Agency cancels male beauty contest after failing to find handsome candidates

The “Mr. Model Tabasco 2017” male beauty contest was supposed to bring together the most handsome men in the Mexican state of Tabasco, but the modeling agency behind the event recently announced its cancellation, after failing to find candidates that met their beauty requirements.

In order to be accepted as contestants for the Mr. Model Tabasco pageant, candidates needed to have a height of at least 1,78 m, be between 17 and 27 years old, have a “harmonious face and body”, have a college degree or an education equivalent to their age, speak English, have a valid passport, and not be a stripper.

Apparently, these requirements proved to be a big problem, as just a few days before the contest, organizers had only selected 6 candidates. Those didn’t really meet the agency’s beauty standards either, so they ultimately decided to cancel the whole event.

“The National Organization of Mr. Model Mexico regrets to inform you that the Mr. Model Tabasco 2017 event has been canceled until further notice, due to the candidates not meeting the physical requirements established by the organization,” the agency said in a statement. “Mr Model Tabasco will continue to work hard to find the perfect example of masculine beauty in the state.”

The agency conducted several photo shoots with the accepted contestants, promoted the event on TV and online, and at one point rebranded it as “the best national and international male modeling event”, but they still couldn’t attract men that fit their strict requirements.

Many believe that the height requirement was very restrictive, considering that Mexicans are not exactly known for being tall.

“Do you want a representative of Tabasco or a European?” Ivan Cervera Ojeda asked on the Mr. Model Tabasco Facebook page.

“Why not have a Mr. Model contest for guys around 1,60 m? Or are we too ugly for being midgets?” another man commented.

Some people even joked about flying in contestants from countries like Norway or Sweden to have them represent Tabasco in the beauty contest and finally appease the organizers.

The decision to cancel the event only made the already outraged online community even more so. They accused organizers of humiliating the 6 accepted contestants by making them feel like they weren’t attractive enough, and also embarrassing the entire state of Tabasco.

“There are so many parts of the world here, but everyone here is good, prepared and among the best in the world.”

‘No Man Will Choose an IG Stripper Over a Bedroom Freak’- Singer Morachi Rants

Beyond barraging fans with dick pics, singer Morachi also has a peculiar taste in women, at least this is what he has just revealed in new Instagram rant.

Posting on his page last night, the singer shaded unnamed Instagram models who he thinks have no ‘wife materials’, his reason being that a woman who enjoys twerking on Instagram can never find a steady relationship.

“Y’all females will shake and twerk y’all ass all day on instagram, then post sad shit about not having a man. No real man will choose a free IG stripper over a private bedroom freak,” said Morachi, adding, “Atleast Not me…..You can’t play victim when a nigga Fuck you & Feed you lies……He handled you how you put yourself out there.”

It is unclear why he went off in such vituperation, but it is clear that it is emotions speaking, because if he looked clearly, he would have realised that Nigeria’s no. 1 Instagram nudist and ‘confirm’ twerker, Maheeda, has been married for seventeen years and has a daughter too.

In her interview with HipTV, Maheeda says she is in this business because it sells, at least for her, and her husband completely understands her trade. Their amazing relationship and unity, at a time celebrity marriages are crashing, shuts down Morachi’s claim that a stripper/Instagram ‘twerker’ can never find a good man.

To be fair to him, he did say “at least to me”. Well, folks made sure to tell him that they do not care what or who he is. “Sick of these African men thinking they’re doing somebody a favor by being with them. Most times, you guys have nothing to offer but sub-par Penis, so please STFU! Stop assuming everything a woman does is for men,” said on Instagrammer.

And this prompted the singer and body building buff to lash out at his critics, calling them unprintable names.

See his updated rant:

Y'all females will shake and twerk y'all ass all day on instagram, Then post sad shit about not having a man. No real man will choose a free IG stripper over a private bedroom freak!! Atleast Not me.....You can't play victim when a nigga Fuck you & Feed you lies......He handled you how you put yourself out there. You gotta value you as a woman first Then have this niggas wondering what it's like to be in your presence..........#DontPlayYourSelf & Act like the victim....you simply Got served what you deserve!!!! let me add more knowledge to this caption for those who claimed they went to school yet have no brains but only beauty!!! I have got nothing with twerking as it's equally entertaining.....But if you twerk & show bootie all the time to get the attention of men who will spoil & shower you with gifts & luxury then also be understanding when your time is up & he also gotta move to the next IG popping twerker!! Just as a whore appreciates her client who paid awesome $$ for her services without cursing the man or just as a video vixen twerks & get paid and move to the next video shoot...also thank the man for the Gucci bag and cash you received not curse him out saying he is a player or a asshole! If you want to keep that man as a boyfriend / husband then you need to flip the image around to something that suits a wife material!!!! He drives a Benz, got a good crib & phat bank account and you wanna trap him with the same image you used to catch him in the first place ???? Sorry hunny it don't work like that!!!!! You wanna keep him cos you fell in love with him then go clean so he sees he had the power to convert you to himself alone!!! I don't expect you all to have brains!!!! Marc Anthony to Trump: Shut the F**k up and do Something About Puerto Rico

As Donald Trump continued his tweetstorm targeting NFL players and their teams who protest against racist police brutality by bending a knee during the national anthem, American singer Marc Anthony waded in with some strong words for the president.

Undeterred by the backlash from the NFL storm, Trump, in a series of tweets Monday, doubled down on his comments from the weekend by claiming they had nothing to do with race.

And Marc Anthony clearly got pissed off with Trump’s comments and shot him a blunt message, telling him to focus on more important and urgent matters…particularly, the incredible wreckage in Puerto Rico caused by last week’s category 5 Hurricane Maria.

“Mr. President shut the f**k up about NFL. Do something about our people in need in #PuertoRico. We are American citizens too” he wrote on Twitter.

Peter Okoye and His Brothers Come to Blows in This Shocking Video

Peter Okoye and his brothers, Paul and Jude, came to blows recently during a sit-down at their lawyer’s office in Lagos, and the video has been leaked to the press by unknown persons.

According to LIB, the brothers who recently started another nasty beef were invited to Festus Keyamo’s office to discuss Peter’s request to dissolve their group, P-Square, which he said he would no longer be a part of due to irreconcilable differences.

In the letter Peter sent to Festus Keyamo, he alleged that their manager, his older brother Jude, threaten to murder him and his wife Lola, that this threat was made in the presence of the former First Lady of Cross River State. Peter also alleged that Jude promised to buy him a coffin if he ever set foot on Jude’s property.

None of the brothers have openly addressed the ongoing drama, but someone close to them have published the video which shows them fighting at Keyamo’s office. And from the clip, Peter apparently recorded the event while raining insults on Jude, daring him to repeat the murder threats. Paul could be also seen telling Peter, “Shame on Peter. shame on you!”

Some mechanics can not make heaven - Lara Wise on her experience with one

AIT presenter Lara Wise, is seriously angry with her mechanic as she took to social media to let everyone know mechanics will not make heaven.

Sharing her experience with one, she wrote:

He is not my mechanic. My mechanic of over four years is far from my house. This guy is just a walking distance away from my house. We see everyday as I drive out and in. We got acquainted over the years having realized we share the same faith. He is so passionate about God. I would sometimes stop by to gist. We would talk politics, faith, and life in general. He fixed very minor problems on the car ranging from replacing lose screws to greasing tight knots. Minor stuff.

Tor.

Two weeks ago he told me my 'silencer' was leaking and driving the car like that would cost me too much fuel. He went under the car, told me it was completely condemned. He brought it out, and, yes, it was. I had worked on it severally. We had to buy a new one. He told me how much. We haggled. I paid. Left the car with him. Hoped in a taxi to do my runs. He returned the car at night. Following morning, I started the car, it sounded like an aircraft. So noisy. I called him. He said he wasn't coming to the shop that day as he had an outside job. I left the car. Picked a cab. Did my runs. I drove the car to him again the following day. Dropped it there and went to work. I picked my car on my way back and as far as I was concerned, it was okay. When I asked why the initial noise, he told me some screws were not firmly tightened. He then said he realized that the 'silencer' he fixed on my car was too weak for my six-cylinder engine so he had to get a higher grade which cost him three thousand naira extra.
Ok.

On Saturday , I drove to my main mechanic to discuss some pending issues and as soon as I drove in, he told me my 'silencer' was leaking. I shot him a terrible glance of " you must be out of your mind. My 'silencer' is brand new". He got under the car and screamed. "Madam, did you say this 'silencer is new?" to which I replied in the affirmative. He took pictures from underneath the car and showed me on his phone. I felt my breakfast fighting its way up from my stomach to my throat.
I called my 'brother' and handed the phone to my mechanic and he got a tongue lash from him for being so dubious. My 'brother' then told me to bring it back on Monday since it was a Saturday and he had just been bereaved. Monday morning.

I went to his shop and all I asked was for us to drive to where he purchased my 'silencer'. I was no longer the sweet madam he was used to. I opened the passenger side door and insisted he must hop into the car. Then his countenance changed. He went flat on the floor begging in the name of God.
I asked him to bring out the 'silencer'.
L
adies and gentlemen, look at the pictures.
Old, worn-out 'silencer'. He confessed that he got an old 'silencer' and refurbished it for me. He said he bought some iron sheets and wrapped the old 'silencer' from inside.
He begged and begged. I was hamstrung.

Conclusion.
I should give him till next weekend to get me what I paid for.
I was sad and I still am.
What we do to ourselves in terms of harm and wickedness is grave and so unimaginable.

Snake expert live streams suicide after letting pet black mamba bite him over wife's alleged infidelity

A well-known Russian snake expert filmed himself dying on a live stream broadcast after he let his pet black mamba bite his hand apparently brokenhearted over the breakup of his marriage.

In deeply disturbing footage, video blogger Arslan Valeev, 31, from St Petersburg, pleaded with viewers to call his ex-wife as he visibly deteriorated on camera and his limbs became numb.

The actual snake bite and moment of death were not shown, but the blogger - a former zoo employee - allowed viewers to see the bite on his hand.

At the end of the footage, he got up from his chair and staggered off camera, possibly towards a bathroom. He died soon afterwards.

He and wife Ekaterina 'Katya' Pyatyzhkina were famous in Russia for running several YouTube channels about snakes and their pet bobcats, with hundreds of thousands of followers.
Friends said that on 4 August he had accused her of cheating on him.

Valeev beat her and she suffered concussion, it was reported.
He later repented and on 21 September publicly apologised to her for his behaviour, saying that their sexual relationship had ended in July.
