Parents Sentenced To Almost 20-Years In Prison For Raping Their Two Children

(CNN) -- A Massachusetts husband and wife were each sentenced to prison Monday after being found guilty last month of raping their two adopted children.

Joseph Mayotte, 50, sexually abused his daughter over a five-year span, starting when she was 8, according to a news release from prosecutor Joseph D. Early Jr.

Mayotte was convicted in August on 11 charges -- including rape of a child aggravated by age difference -- and was sentenced Monday to 16 to 20 years in prison.

His wife, Linda Mayotte, was convicted on 19 charges -- including three counts of rape of a child -- and sentenced from 18 to 22 years behind bars.

The 49-year-old became pregnant with her adopted son's child when he was only 15, according to Paul Jarvey of the Worcester County District Attorney's Office. It was a pregnancy she carried to term, Jarvey said.

"Let them burn in hell," is what the son, now 21, said of his former parents in an impact statement read in court today, according to Jarvey.

The Mayottes, who lived in the central Massachusetts town of Northbridge, were arrested in 2009. The two adopted children -- along with the child to whom Linda Mayotte gave birth -- were adopted by other families.

"Their trust was broken by these two predators," Early's statement said. "Now, justice has been served."

Porsche 911 Turbo & Turbo S Cabrios Revealed

One of the fastest and most useable supercars in the world is now available without a roof. Say hello to the new Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S.
The new models use the same 3.8-litre flat six, developing 514bhp in the 911 Turbo cabriolet and 553bhp in the 911 Turbo S cabriolet. That's 30bhp more than the previous generation of scalped Turbos and leads to a 0-60mph time 0.4 quicker than their predecessors – 3.3 seconds for the Turbo and 3.1 seconds for the Turbo S – too.
Porsche has designed the fabric roof with a lightweight magnesium frame so it maintains the same curve to produce the same silhouette as the coupe.
It'll take around 13 seconds to close the lid and one can do it up to a speed of 31mph.

The Chinese government could be about to relax its strict censorship laws, albeit only in a small area of one of its cities.

How I Nurtured Wande Coal To Stardom - Mother Reveals

There is a popular saying that says ''For every successful man, there is always a woman, and behind the downfall of everyman too, there will always be the traces of a woman''.

In the instance of sensational Marvin Records superstar, Wande Coal, there is a woman who is the solid rock behind his musical relevance and that's his mother, Mrs. Omolara Ojosipe. She recently had a brief chat with Alonge Michael where she reluctantly revealed how she nursed Wande Coal to stardom.

How did you nurse Wande Coal to stardom?
It’s God . He started in the church choir when we were in Redeemed Christian Church, the source of inspiration for his career is God and I always tell him to return all glory back to God. And whatever the challenges that comes along, he should just tell God, “I have not called myself, I didn’t put myself in this position, you did so, God see me through”. So, we have learnt to rely and put everything in God’s care. It’s not any human effort but God. I am not so righteous to have such a star as a son but God has decreed that, whosoever He chooses to bless, He blesses.

How often do you see or when was the last time you saw him?
Oh! That was last month, he’s always busy as you know, he’s always engaged in his career, I have come to realize this and I cope with it but we talk on the phone from time to time.

When he was growing up; was there any trait of him becoming a star?
I am a teacher, he started from school, in any gathering he would be singing and people would be rejoicing, sometimes he would crack jokes to the bewilderment of all and sundry. But I noticed that it was affecting his education and as a teacher, I didn’t like that, you know, so I started to scold him and made sure he had good grades from secondary school. I monitored him through the secondary school but when he got to the university, there is little I could do to have control on him, so that gave him the opportunity to fully delve into his music. Till tomorrow they still see me as a wicked mum because I was so strict with them about their education. When he was younger, he was always saying that he would want to be like Michael Jackson and I always tell him, this is Africa, Nigeria, You don’t expect what works for them there to work for us here. When he started going to dance competitions and he started winning, then I knew he was destined for that and I asked God in prayer to reveal to me if music was his calling. I didn’t know it would come that early, sometimes when he was going out, I would asked God to reveal to me if he was going to make headway in music and God revealed to me that he’s made to be popular musically. That was the time he won the Hyundai from Hip Hop Awards when he had not even released any record except singles.

Briefly tell us about your name?
I’m Mrs. Omolara Ojosipe, I have been a teacher for 26 years but now I am in the Federal inspectorate section under the ministry of education. I am not supposed to grant this interview because I am in the civil service and I don’t want my face to show.

UNBELIEVABLE: 27-Year-Old Man Breaks Into ATM, Steals N6.8 Million

The Police Command in the FCT have begun investigation into the alleged theft of N6.8 million from the ATM of a bank at Jabi District, Abuja, on Saturday.
DSP Altine Daniel, the command’s spokesperson, who disclosed this on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the theft.
He said that the 27-year-old suspect (name withheld), allegedly broke into the ATM belonging to one of the old generation banks and stole the money.
Daniel, however, said that the amount that was stolen was recovered “intact” from the suspect after he was arrested in the premises of the bank.
“On Sept. 21, at about 10 a.m., some staff of the bank came to report at our office at Utako that their ATM had problem.
“When our men moved to the scene and started looking for clues and anything that will assist them in their investigation, they noticed that the CCTV monitor room had been tampered with.
“After a thorough search, they also noticed that the door of the toilet in the room was locked from within and when they opened it, they found somebody seated.
“The suspect was picked up and taken to the station where he confessed to the crime,” she said.
Daniel said the suspect claimed to have learned the act of opening safe from the “youtube” (Internet) and thereafter, bought some tools, including screw driver and pliers, to carry out the act.
She alleged that the suspect removed N6.87 million from the ATM and packed them in bags before his arrest.
“Investigations into the case has started and we are trying to find out if he acted alone or he has some accomplices,” she said.

ASUU Strike: Senate President, Mark, Asks Lawmakers To Proffer Solution

The Senate President, David Mark, on Tuesday called on lawmakers to proffer solutions that would end the protracted strike by university lecturers, ASUU.
ASUU has been on strike for almost three months, since June 30. Mr. Mark made the call in Abuja at the conference of the National Assembly and 36 state Houses of Assembly Committees on Education with the theme: “Transforming Nigerian Education Sector.”
“The persistent strike actions by ASUU have had tremendous impact on the quality of our education system. It has become necessary for us to initiate a legislative solution to the problem.
“The universities have to ensure they pass out marketable graduates that can stand the work environment and add value where required,” Mr. Mark, who was represented by the Senate Minority Whip, Solomon Ganiyu, said.
According to him, there is need to make the university curriculum entrepreneurial such that graduates can be self employed. He called on the Federal Government, ASUU, and the 36 state committees on education to urgently come to an agreement to resolve the dispute.
Mr. Mark also called for private sector participation in the education sector, especially in evolving policies. Also speaking, the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, said addressing the challenge of quality education was the responsibility of all Nigerians.
“We must continue to take close look at areas that we can make input for better education outcome. Be it parents, teachers, government officials or civil society, we have specific roles to play,” Mr. Wike said. The minister commended the role of the National Assembly in transforming the education sector.
“The fact that the appropriation for education has increased by almost 100 per cent in the past three years is a testament of the cooperation between the executive and the legislature in the drive to promote quality education,” he said.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Uche Chukwumerijie, said the standard and quality of the educational system and the capacity to innovate determine the pace of development of any nation.
Mr. Chukwumerijie said the committee, after interacting with key officials at federal and state levels, convened the conference “to mainstream its findings of huge differences in educational funding and provisions among states.’’

BlackBerry Acquired for $4.7 billion

Say goodbye to Blackberry. Well we can say goodbye officially considering we all have known this was coming for quite some time. Not to mention the earnings report last week showing nearly $1 billion in loss, things weren’t looking too good. Just hitting the wires is news that BlackBerry has been acquired by a Canadian Financial company for the tune of $4.7 billion.

Fairfax Financial, which is a company in Canada that specialized in insurance, has reportedly just agreed to purchase the company at $9 per share, coming in at around $4.7 billion US dollars. The company deals with lots of financials, and engages in property, casualty, and life insurance and reinsurance, investment management, and insurance claims management. At least according to their own webpage. This is a major shock, as we all thought another mobile or electronic company would snatch them up
Personally, we were hoping someone like Lenovo would acquire BlackBerry to help with their Android smartphone and tablet aspirations, but clearly that won’t be happening now. After multiple failed promises, getting complacent and showing up late to the smartphone game, and other things we’re sure you all know, BlackBerry has struggled. Here’s to a new chapter. Whatever that may be.

Shares have been halted for the company, and they will resume at 2:00 PM according to statements from media, and earlier they were already down 5 points on the day. We’ve learned Fairfax was already Blackberry’s largest shareholder, but that’s all we know at the moment. This news has just hit the wires and we’ll be learning more soon enough. This also means those rumors on why BBM for Android didn’t launch on Sunday were just excuses, and they were simply waiting for this deal to be finalized. Now we’ll have to wonder if they’ll ever release the app. Stay tuned.

TuFace Splashes N3m On Peace Award Winners

Three winners emerged over the weekend from the 2Face Peace Awards organized by 2Face Idibia to commemorate the World Peace Day. The event took place at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

The winners received N1million each to use in furthering the various peace causes they have been involved in. They were selected across-section of young Nigerians between the ages of 18 to 35, whose initiatives helped in promoting peace in their areas for at least 18 months.

The awards kicked off the ‘Million Voices for Peace’ campaign established by the ‘African Queen’ crooner’s ‘Reach-out Foundation’.

The winners were: Kyenpiya Jessica Makan-Nyabam of the CLAPAI (Child Love And Protection Advocacy Initiative) Orphanage, Jos. CLAPAI was set up in 2006 by Kyenpiya and her husband, Emmanuel, an ex-professional footballer, to cater for children orphaned, affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. They also care for children outside the orphanage and Emmanuel uses sports to engage the older youth in the community to foster peace.

Another winner was the Christian Muslim Peace Movement based in Bauchi and Jos. The group consists of some young volunteers led by Aminu Garba Sidi, who do conflict mediation, peace sensitization and other activities in schools and communities. They also work in NYSC camps and are contact persons and mobilizers for other peace projects in Nigeria.

The last but not the least winner was Zainab Sandah, who also received an honourable mention. She is involved in mobilizing and assisting the conflict prone Rigassa community in Kaduna in their efforts to access public sector education. She assisted in setting up a VSAT with computers for a community skills centre.

Speaking at the event, 2Face Idibia charged the winners to continue in their efforts to support the poor and promote peace in Nigeria. He explained that the MVP was meant to re-orientate the “mindset of Nigerians to realize the senselessness in many of the conflicts and killings going on and let them know that peace is the only condition for progress.
According to him, “most times, when they tell you the reason for some of the conflicts, you will be very surprised and disappointed. As award winners, you are now peace ambassadors. People will be more interested in what you do. You have to continue to maintain the high standards you have set.”

Present at the event were the president of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND), Hafsat Abiola-Costello, who urged the rich to support the poor more; the Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), who represented by David Manya Dogo and Prof Braide, DG IPRC and the representative of the First Lady's Peace Mission Mrs Betty Bassey.
