Between Neymar and Cavani and a Merciless Twitter

Neymar’s fairytale start to life in Paris Saint-Germain was punctuated by his recent spat with teammate, Edinson Cavani, over set-piece duties.

The world’s most expensive player wanted to take a penalty during PSG’s 2-0 win over Lyon, but Cavani – the club’s usual penalty taker – had other ideas.

In a crowded penalty area, the big Uruguayan forward said ‘not so fast’ to Neymar despite the best efforts of Dani Alves, and went ahead to take the spot-kick which was eventually saved by Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopez.

The penalty incident followed an earlier scuffle over a free-kick that saw Neymar’s Brazil teammate Dani Alves snatch the ball off Cavani so his compatriot could take it.

It later emerged that the two players had to be separated in the dressing room as their argument boiled over, forcing coach Unai Emery to wield the big stick.

“The penalties are to be struck by a few players, one is Cavani and the other is Neymar,” he said.

“I think both are able to score them, and I want the two to alternate in this exercise.”

The matter appears settled pro tem, as Neymar scored from the spot in PSG’s 6-2 bashing of Bordeaux last weekend, but with Cavani reportedly having a clause in his contract that awards him an extra €1million bonus if he emerged as the club’s top goal scorer at the end of the season, we may have to keep our fingers crossed.

While Paris was embroiled in the ego tango, Twitter expectedly had a field day, and some of the responses are just sick…
