The Nigeria Police anti-kidnapping squad has killed a suspected kidnapper in Okoyong, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Two of the kidnap kingpin’s cohorts escaped during the operation that saw the release of an abducted victim, a woman whose name is yet to be released.
Vanguard reports that one of the suspects used the phone of the victim to contact family members to demand a ransom.
With the number being tracked, the caller was invited to a particular spot where he was shot dead and taken to Okoyong. Only, his colleagues escaped through a bush track in the area after a gun duel with the police.
Items recovered from the kidnappers’ hideout include guns, charms and other small weapons, while the suspect’s lifeless body was seen at the anti-kidnapping squad at the cultural centre in the state capital Calabar.
The incident has been confirmed by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Ms Irene Ugbo, who said the kidnapper was gunned down on Friday before promising that her men will apprehend the two escaped gang members and others involved in terrorising the state.
“The incident is true; our officers arrested the suspect while others escaped. We shall get to them soon. However, the victim, a woman has been rescued,” Ms Ugbo said.
Meanwhile, Channels is reporting that six members of a syndicate that specialises in human killings for ritual purposes have been arrested by the Ogun State police command.
Ogun State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu said they were arrested at different locations in the state capital and Owode Egba areas of the state.
Items recovered from the suspects include different human parts and charms.
