Ghana midfielder Kingsley Sarfo has admitted to having sex with an underage girl in Sweden but denies it was rape.
Sarfo, 22, landed in hot water following charges of rape with a far younger girl who was not eligible for sex according to Swedish law.
In a closed court session Sunday at the legal centre in Malmo, ‘Malmo Tingsratt’, the Ghanaian confirmed he had penetrated the lady but only did so with her consent, Ghanasoccer writes.
In the wake of the charges, Sarfo was suspended by Malmo until the case is heard and his innocence established.
It could be a sudden fall for one of the rising stars of Ghanaian football, particularly if he is handed a long term jail sentence which is normally dished out to those found guilty of rape.
The player who recently became Malmo’s most expensive signing already has a pending case with the Swedish authorities after he was picked up by the Police for driving without a License.
His ordeal has also come as he was named in the Black Stars squad to play against Uganda in a crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier this month.
Should he be found guilty, he’ll become the second Ghanaian player to go to jail in Sweden in recent times after former Heart of Lions midfielder, Kwame Bonsu who was sentenced to two years for sexual abuse against his ex-wife during his time at Gefle IF.
