Charly Boy Slams The Nigerian Police With N500M Lawsuit

Veteran Entertainer and covener of the Resume or Resign protests,Charles Oputa, popularly called Charlyboy, has dragged the Nigeria Police to court.

The suit before the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja accused the police of harassing him and members of the OurMumuDonDo campaign, and Concerned Nigerians group during the #ResumeOrResign protests.

In the lawsuit against the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, and the commissioner of police for FCT, Charlyboy is seeking N500 million in damages over the infringement of his fundamental rights .

Charly Boy, 66, is demanding a letter of apology published in five national dailies.
The veteran musician is also seeking an injunction restraining the commissioner and the Nigeria Police Force from further interfering with or violating his fundamental rights to dignity of the human person, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association.

Recall that the Police had ‘attacked’ Charly Boy with water cannons, teargas canisters on protesters who were asking that President Muhammadu Buhari either resumes duty or resign his position as the country’s leader.
