Suarez Celebrates Century in Style as Barca Maintain Perfect Start

Luis Suarez was the star of the show as Barcelona kept up their perfect start to the season with a convincing 3-0 win at Girona.

Back to the starting line-up after being axed for the Eibar routing, Suarez completed the scoring on a night Barca needed two own goals to help their cause.

Francisco Aday and Gorka Iraizoz put the ball through their own net as Ernesto Velverde’s men sealed a victory that opened a four-point lead at the top of the table.

On a night when Lionel Messi drew a rare blank after his sensational start to the season, strike partner Suarez stepped up to the plate, powering home his 87th Barcelona goal on his 100th club appearance after he’d prompted Iraizoz’s own goal with a cute stepover.

Victory on the night saw Barca open a four-point lead over second-placed Atletico Madrid who ran out 2-0 winners over Sevilla, with the Catalans’ arch-rivals Real Madrid trailing by seven after their 2-1 win earlier in the day.

Los Blancos were bailed out by a debut double from Dani Ceballos in a hard-fought 2-1 win at Alaves.

It was a smart first-half brace from the former Betis midfielder to send the champions back to winning ways, with Cristiano Ronaldo cutting a frustrated figure for the second game running since his return from suspension.
