Playboy founder Hugh Hefner is dead.
According to CNBC, the founder of the sexualised magazine died at his Playboy mansion of natural causes.
Hefner founded the popular monthly magazine more than 60 years ago to create a market for men obsessed with the images of nude women, and the magazine also comes loaded with articles, works of fiction and interviews.
Hefner reportedly started this venture with only $600, and later another $1,000 he borrowed from his mother. CNBC added that the first centre of the magazine was the image of the Marilyn Monroe.
Over the years, the magazine grew to become a popular name around the world and would feature known faces of women like Pamela Anderson, and even Donald Trump who rose to become the President of the United States.
“My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom,” said Cooper Hefner, the son of the founder and also Playboy Enterprises’ chief creative officer.
“He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history,” the younger Hefner said.
Back in the 60s and 70s, the magazine championed the sexual revolution. However, in recent times, it began to compete with porn sites online which provided free access to pornography.
By mid-2017 and early 2017, the Hefner tried to erase nudity from his magazine and launch a new path, but it failed to win old loyal fans, and so they returned to what they know best.
Sadly, Hugh Hefner has passed on at the age of 91.
He was survived by his wife, Crystal, his sons, Cooper, David and Marston, and his daughter, Christie.
