Champions League: PSG rip Bayern; Chelsea, United Win

Paris Saint-Germain sent out a strong statement of intent with a 3-0 drubbing of Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.

World record signing Neymar was at the heart of the impressive victory as he got the show on the road less than two minutes in, teeing up fellow Brazilian Dani Alves to drive home the opener.

Bayern turned on the heat at the Parc des Princes but lacked the cutting edge up front, and they were made to pay moments later when Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani finished a devastating counter-attack with a strike into the top corner.

It was job done for Unai Emery’s men shortly after the hour mark as Neymar pounced after teenage wonder Kylian Mbappe had left the Bayern defence in a heap.

The other game saw Celtic cruised past Anderlecht 3-0 in what looks to be a fight for third place behind PSG and Bayern in Group B.

Atletico went down to English champions Chelsea 2-1 in a gripping encounter at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Los Rojiblancos were handed the opener when David Luiz blundered in the box, allowing Antoine Griezmann to slot past keeper Thibaut Courtois.

But Antonio Conte’s men bounced back as Alvaro Morata powered home a beautiful cross from fit again Eden Hazard, before substitute Michy Batshuayi deservedly gave Chelsea victory in the fourth minute of added on time.

The Blues maintain their two point lead in Group C, after Roma held on to beat Qarabag 2-1 in the early kick-off following goals from Kostas Manolas and Edin Dzeko.

Romelu Lukaku grabbed a brace as Manchester United brushed aside CSKA Moscow 4-1 to maintain their lead of Group A, while FC Basle sank 10-man Benfica 5-0 in the other game.

Gonzalo Higuain and Mario Mandzukic scored late as last season’s runners-up Juventus overcame lethargic form at home to beat Olympiakos 2-0.

The Italians remain third in Group D, behind Sporting Lisbon on goal difference after the Portuguese fell 1-0 to Barcelona courtesy of an own goal from Sebastian Coates.
