Nollywood movies to earn estimated N2 billion at cinemas in 2017

A recent forecast has shown that Nigerian movies look set to gross about N2 billion out of expected N5 billion that would be made in box office in 2017.

Speaking at the premiere of My Wife and I on Sunday, Moses Babatope, the Group Executive Director of FilmOne Nollywood, movie producers are improving just as the audience.

‘Of the five billion naira that would be made in box office sales this year – and that’s about five million tickets – the Nigerian film will gross two billion, and that’s about 40 percent of the box office,’ he said.

Babatope added, ‘Three or four years ago, that figure was about 10% of the box office and less than five hundred million.
‘This is just to tell you that the quality of the films are improving and the number of the audience is improving.’
