Landlord kills tenant in eviction gone wrong

A Florida landlord is facing a first-degree murder charge after shooting a tenant, according to the Miami Herald.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Ryan Wilder is accused of having shot and killed Kenneth Palicki at around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 18.

Deputy Becky Herrin claims Wilder, 32, served Palicki and girlfriend Colleen Lyons eviction papers demanding that they vacate their rental property by Wednesday.

She told the Miami Herald that Wilder went to the home on Friday to find that neither Palicki, 47, nor Lyons were home.

He reportedly began taking the couple's belongings out, during which they returned home. An argument ensued and Palicki ordered his girlfriend to call the sheriff's office, Herrin told the paper.

The Miami Herald reported that Lyons told a 911 dispatcher that Wilder was carrying a pistol at the time.

While she was speaking with authorities, Wilder pulled out the weapon and fired four shots at Palicki.

Wilder then got into his truck and drove away. He was pulled over by deputies not far from the scene, the Miami Herald reported.
Wilder called his own girlfriend, Amber Gray, admitting what he'd done. He claimed, however, that it was merely self-defense, according to the publication.

Wilder is being held in county jail on no bond.
