The federal government of Nigeria has admitted how worried they are at the
distortion in school calendar as a result of the on going strike by the
Academic staff union of the universities.
Minister of information, Labara Maku told the state house correspondents at
the end of Wednesday’s Federal Executive meeting that government was committed
to “SERIOUS NEGOTIATION”.
He also pleaded with the students to bear with the government and show more
understanding because great effort is being made to resolve the issue soon.
“The federal government has been far more concerned than you think
concerning the strike in the tertiary institutions, because disruption of the
school calendar. Government are in serious negotiation with ASUU through the
ministry of education”.
“ As at today we know this negotiation are going and it is our expectation
that this strike will not get more protracted and that an understanding will be
reached soon enough to enable our students return back to school. Government
are very worried and concerned”.
