'My numbers speak for themselves' – Ronaldo takes on critics

The Madrid star is tired of the constant criticism of his performances after stepping up again with a double for the Blancos.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo hit back at his critics and is surprised he continually has to prove himself.

Ronaldo scored a brace to help Madrid to a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Portuguese star's domestic return has not gone to plan, unable to net in two La Liga games since coming back from suspension.

But Ronaldo, 32, is growing tired of the constant criticism, saying he had already proven himself.

"It seems that I have to keep showing exactly who I am in every match," he told Atresmedia after his 400th Madrid appearance.

"I am surprised by what the public thinks of me, my numbers speak for themselves, I am an exemplary professional and I always have a clear mind.

Gareth Bale opened the scoring with a stunning volley for Madrid at Signal Iduna Park before Ronaldo's second-half double.

Ronaldo said Zinedine Zidane's men stepped up, as the La Liga giants won at Dortmund for the first time.

"Before the game, we spoke about how much we wanted to win in Dortmund," he said.

"We did what the coach told us, the team has been phenomenal, creating opportunities and it isn't easy to score three goals here.

"We played well."

Man arrested for trying to smuggle gold in rectum

A Sri Lankan man who raised suspicion by the way he kept looking around in an airport departure lounge was found to be carrying nearly a kilogram (2.2 lb) of gold stashed in his rectum, a customs official said on Monday.

The 45-year-old, headed for India, was arrested at Colombo airport on Sunday after customs officials noticed “suspicious movements”, customs spokesman Sunil Jayarathne told Reuters.

The suspect was carrying 904.77 grams of gold worth 4.5 million rupees ($29,577), but was freed after payment of 100,000 rupees, he said. Such methods of smuggling were not unusual, he said.

“The gold was wrapped in plastic bags inserted in to his rectum,” Jayarathne said, adding that there were four bags.

“This is not the first such detection and this is a common method of smuggling.”

Men these days are shying away from their responsibilities as husbands - Doris Simeon

Doris Simeon, is of the believe that husband's these day are shying away from their responsibilities.

Speaking with Oge Ezeliora, Simeon shed more light on her her love life, broken marriage, new found skills as a producer and her determination never to look like an old woman.

What project are you working on at the moment?
I just produced four movies which are set to be released soon: two Yoruba movies and two English movies titled, Aseju, Soul Betrayal, Alone in the dark and Olorire.

How do you juggle being an actress and a producer?
Acting is easy. Acting is fun especially if you are focused on what you are doing. Producing a movie is challenging – you’re faced with the stress of sourcing for scripts, cast, crew and finance.

How do you feel seeing younger actresses progressing quickly in the movie industry?
The industry is wide and is expanding day by day. I am glad about this development. We must create opportunities for upcoming actresses. Nollywood is not only for Doris. I am happy that people are looking up to me. I am mentoring actors and actresses.

How did you feel the first day you had to face a camera?
I was shy the first time but after series of rehearsals, the rest is history – I focus on what I was told to do. (My first time before the camera) was for a popular television comedy called Papa Ajasco produced by Wale Adenuga Productions. I was doing that before I went into full-time acting – joining Nollywood.

Is being an actress a blessing to you?
As an actress, God has blessed me and I can’t deny it, though it has not been easy. Being an actress is the best thing that has happened to me. My gratitude goes to God first. He has always been there for me. I can’t complain that I have been robbed of my private life. My life is always out there. Above all I am happy being an actress.
How do you excel as a bilingual actress?
For Yoruba movies, the scripts come more often than the English movies. It is the same job but different languages. Shooting Yoruba movies is a bit difficult because you have a lot of job to do – translation is there. But the English movies are easy. It’s getting better now because these days, you now find actors from different circles coming together to shoot films and celebrate things together. This is something we have been longing and praying for. We thank God it’s working out well now. The English movie industry is highly competitive but the jobs are easy. If they ask me to speak English, I will speak. If they ask me to speak Yoruba in any movie, I will speak it so fluently.

Have you always had a beautiful life?
I was born in Lagos; I can say I had a sweet childhood. I was pampered loved and well taken care of by my parents. I have a diploma in Production Management from the PEFTI Film Institute owned by Wale Adenuga. My parents originated from Okpella in Benin, Edo state. My father had many wives and many children. It was a polygamous home but we were well cared for. My mother was a peaceful woman and she loved her children so much.

What is your fashion dislike?
I don’t like dressing shabbily. I don’t like dressing like an old woman. I hate tying a wrapper around my boobs – that’s a complete turn off for me. Do you know I don’t even have a single wrapper in my wardrobe?

What’s your marital status now?
I am not legally divorced – the divorce suit is still in court. Yes, I am single and I am a happy woman.

Don’t you think being a single mother is now fashionable in Nollywood?
Single motherhood is not peculiar to Nollywood. If you go to the banking sector, there are single mothers there; in the military, in law firms and other fields, there are single mothers. It is not our fault; it’s just that men no longer want to play their role as husbands. I am not a supporter of single parenthood: every man or woman has the right to live their life the way they choose. It’s just by God’s grace that I am acting and producing. Emotional trauma is not what I will encourage anybody to pass through. God created every woman for a man. So marriage is good.

Is there any possibility that you and your ex will reconcile?
I don’t dwell in the past. I don’t want to talk about that anymore. I have moved on. I have no regret at all. I have only learnt to be stronger. The truth is that I have forgotten about everything. Time has erased it (the emotional pain I went through). I am now a better person. Today, I am closer to God and I put God first in everything I do. I never gave up on love. I have found love again in Jesus. I am married to my career right now. I am in a relationship anyway but I want to be private about it. I thank God because I am a better person. My career and business are going on well.

Will you remarry?
I am single and ready to mingle. If God sends a man to me I will not reject him. I am not bored. If it’s God’s plan for me I will go ahead (and get married); if not, then I will remain single.

Do you still have a good relationship with your ex-husband and his wife?
Yes, I do.

What’s unique about you?
It’s my patience. I am also playful. I am playful to the extent that a lot of people think I am not a serious person. I am a very funny person.

Apart from acting, what else do you do?
I am into hair-dressing. I started making hair as a little girl. Now, I have fulfilled my childhood dream of owning a big salon of my own. My mom was a hair-dresser and fortunately for me, I learnt a lot from her. I have a salon at Ogba. Right now, we are also into households and interiors décor.

Jesse Williams Agrees to Pay Estranged Wife Aryn Drake-Lee $160k in Support

The legal battle between Jesse Williams and Aryn Drake-Lee has taken a new turn after the actor agreed to pay her spousal and children support.

According to E! News, the Grey’s Anatomy actor reached a temporary agreement in their custody case, and then agreed to provide Aryn an advance of $160,000 which will have a two-way allocation.

$100,000 reportedly will serve as a “temporary spousal support for [Aryn] and child support on behalf of the parties’ minor children”, while the remaining $60,000 will be an advance toward Aryn’s attorney fees.

Court documents obtained by E! News noted that the actor will make these payments in three installments and it will be from his Grey’s Anatomy paychecks from the current season.

This interesting update comes weeks after their bitter battle in court, a drama that started after he left her for his co-actor, Minka Kelly. At first, Jesse dismissed the rumour that he was having an affair with Kelly.

Here’s what he said on Jay-Z’s Tidal:

“I was in a relationship 13 years, 13 real years, not 5 years, not 7 years, 13 years and all of a sudden mother f–kers are writing think-pieces that I somehow threw a 13-year relationship. Like the most painful experience I’ve had in my life like with a person I’ve loved with all of my heart—that I threw a person and my family in the trash because a girl I work with is cute.”

Well, he eventually went public with Kelly when the media firestorm would not stop; there was no need to hide again.

Now, he is making progress with his estranged wife at the court, and hopefully they will resolve their issues amicably.

Jesse Williams is still enjoying a romance with Minka Kelly though.

Photo: #BBNaija Gifty and Mr 2Kay Reportedly Expecting Their First Child!

New reports have just confirmed that #BBNaija Gifty and Mr 2Kay are expecting their first child together.

According to Instablog9ja which broke this news, a source close to Gifty’s mother claims the actress currently lives with her mother in Badagry, Lagos, away from prying eyes. Initial attempts to get photos of the actress’ bump failed, until she stepped out for an event with actress Rosaline Meurer.

From the photo which is presently making the rounds on social media, Gifty sure looks heavy with child. However, she has yet to confirm that the pregnancy belongs to Mr 2kay.

This interesting update comes weeks after she disgraced the singer on her Instagram.

Recall that Mr 2kay had claimed her as his girlfriend during the #BBNaija show, and he was quite upset with her performance at the house, saying she “overplayed her game”. However, when accosted by her fans to confirm their relationship, Gifty threw him under the bus without battling her eyelid.

“I am not in any relationship,” she said. “Relationship: NIL. Friendship: We are JUST friends,” said the ex-housemate, triggering a mockery session for the singer.

However she returned in August to crown him the ‘king’ of Nigerian music during an interview with Goldmyne TV.

Well, look at her now:

Cameroon Blocks Asylum Seekers, Deports 100,000 Nigerians Illegally

Human Rights Watch (HRW), on Wednesday, said that Cameroon’s Army blocked asylum seekers at the border. In addition to this, they tortured and illegally deported no fewer than 100,000 Nigerians, who were fleeing the ongoing insurgency by Islamist militant group Boko Haram, and subjected some to torture.

A report by HRW said that the deportations violate international and Cameroonian law, and constitutes one of the world’s largest recent cases of illegal forced repatriation.

The human rights group also said that Cameroon could have intensified one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises by sending people in dire need of aid back to northeast Nigeria.

However, Cameroon’s minister of communications reportedly declined to comment on HRW’s report.

This occurrence is coming at a period when Nigeria is still struggling to cope with millions of people dependent on emergency relief for food, shelter and medicine, victims of an eight-year conflict in which at least 20,000 have been killed.

According to United Nations, at least 10.7 million people in this part of the world, especially Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon are in need of assistance.

Part of a statement from interviews with a former asylum seeker and refugee reads:

“Cameroon’s army has been aggressively screening newly arriving Nigerians at the border, subjecting some to torture and other forms of abuse, and containing them in far-flung and under-serviced border villages,” the report noted.

In addition, the report said that the policy of blocking asylum seekers from accessing protection had made it easier for Cameroon to deport Nigerians. It also noted that the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) had been denied access.

It was also gathered that a UNHCR spokesman in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, declined to comment on the issue.

Also, one male interviewee told URH that Nigerians are being humiliated by Cameroon’s army, who beat them like slaves, adding that his brother died following the torture by the soldiers, Reuters reports

“Some deportees, including children, were so malnourished or sick they did not survive their return to Nigeria,” HRW added.

Recall that Cameroon had, in 2015, deported 650 Nigerian refugees seeking asylum in the country, following the devastating attacks by the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Also, the Nigerian refugees in Cameroon had, in the time past, complained that they were being neglected by their hosts and the Nigerian government, lamenting the pervasive hunger arising from their inability to get food.

‘My Wife is Jealous Because I Love Kane’ – Mauricio Pochettino

Harry Kane has got everyone waxing lyrical after his Champions League heroics including Tottenham manager Harry Kane Mauricio Pochettino, who said his wife is now jealous because he loves the striker.

Kane struck a perfect hat-trick to fire Spurs to a 3-0 Champions League victory over APOEL on Tuesday and keep them on course for qualification for the Last 16 alongside Real Madrid who ran out 3-1 winners over Borussia Dortmund.

The England international brought his tally to nine goals this season and Pochettino, who compared him to Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi after saying he ‘loved’ him at the weekend, believes there’s no better striker out there, Goal writes.

“For me Harry is one of the best strikers. Cristiano is different. Not a striker, like Messi, a different type of player,” Pochettino said.

“It doesn’t change my perception of Harry Kane because he scored three goals. For me he’s one of the best as I told you.

British Airways Sacks Hostess for Racist Comments About Nigerians

Following widespread reports about a video showing a British Airways hostess making crude remarks about Nigerians ahead of a flight from London to Abuja, the airline has announced the dismissal of the erring flight attendant.

The hostess, Joanne Wickenden, was sacked after a 2-hour meeting with the airline’s management on Tuesday where she claimed the video was ‘a joke.’

In a statement released by the airline on Tuesday, British Airways claimed Wickenden, aged 23, no longer worked with the airline.

‘We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways,’ the statement said.

The 23-year-old hostess has also denied being racist while one of her friends told reporters that a colleague had encouraged Wickenden to act out what happens on the plane.

‘I have been framed by another BA employee. They were encouraging me, egging me on to say things. They were recording me and sent it around to our friends,’ Wickenden told Daily Mail.

Wickenden has also reportedly indicated that she is no longer interested in flying.

Fight Breaks Out After Azealia Banks Called Cardi B a Poor Man’s Nicki Minaj

Azealia Banks and Cardi B are fighting on social media.

Drama started last night when Azealia Banks hopped on her new Twitter page to insult Cardi B who recently broke a 19-year-old record held by Lauryn Hill.

In case you missed it all: Cardi’s Bodak Yellow moved from No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart to No. 1, making her the first hip-hop female artist to make the record since Lauryn Hill’s song Doo Wop (That Thing) led the chart in 1998.

Many hip-hop artists, including Nicki Minaj, praised Cardi for her achievement, but one of them who has been out of the spotlight for too long and known only for making racists/homophobic remarks, Azealia Banks, chose this moment to insult Cardi.

Azealia dismissed Cardi as “poor man’s Nicki Minaj” and then went on to accuse black radio DJ’s of promoting light-skinned female rappers more than black female acts.

See her now-deleted tweets:

Well Cardi B has never been one to ignore trolls. In her response on Instagram, she shared a rare video of Azealia Banks dancing to her song, with a caption that says, “One of the reasons Bodak Yellow went #1! Cuz even the HATERS love it!

How Kenyan Athlete Recho Kosgei was ‘Abandoned’ After Collapsing at Warsaw Marathon

It was just 800m to the finishline at the Warsaw marathon when Kenyan athlete, Recho Kosgei, suddenly stopped, wobbled and collapsed to the shock of millions around the world.

Kosgei, 32, was in the lead in the IAAF Bronze label race in the Polish capital before dropping in a heap and, bizarrely, there was no medical team in sight to help the stricken athlete.

She’d opened up a near three-minute lead when disaster struck, and for another three minutes there was no help, absolutely no one in sight until two runners approached her.

While there are obvious questions as to why an IAAF bronze label event would be so poorly organised, even more disturbing is the thought that this may not have happened to one of the local athletes.

“I missed my water from 30km to 40km,” said Kosgei, on arrival at the airport in Nairobi on Monday.

“I was still strong, but after that I just found myself on the ground.

“I was already dehydrated, my legs were paralysed. I just found myself lying down with no assistance from anybody from the race.

“It was something like negligence.”

As she was left prone with only the inexperienced runner to attend to her, Ethiopian Bekelu Beji strode past both of them and went on to win the women’s race.

“I laid there for fifteen minutes and no one was willing to help me. I didn’t receive any assistance from anyone” said Kosgei, whose medical reports indicated she suffered severe dehydration and low sugar.

“I’m ok. I’ve recovered. I feel traumatised but I’m strong and can make it again,” a smiling Kosgei said.

Watch her speak here:

Meanwhile, organisers of the event have released a statement claiming they didn’t come to Kosgei’s rescue in order for her not to be disqualified.

“When the athlete fell down, the leading car stopped and we contacted her manager and the ambulance but the athlete was still struggling to continue with the race. According to the international regulations, we are not supposed to help her because she will be disqualified,” said Magdalena Srocka from Warsaw Marathon Foundation.

The IAAF has yet to react to the incident.

Saudi Arabia Finally Allows Women to Drive

After years of banning woman from driving, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday said all women in the country are now free to drive, thereby ending a policy seen globally as a symbol of oppression.
The lifting of the ban was announced in a royal decree read on National television.

But women still have to wait for at lest another eight months before they can drive.
The New York Times reports that the change will take effect in June 2018.

The ban on women from driving has been a dent on the international reputation of the country, as women have had to hire male drivers or have a male relative drive them to work and other places.
“It is amazing,” said Fawziah al-Bakr, a Saudi university professor who was among 47 women who participated in the kingdom’s first protest against the ban — in 1990.

“Since that day, Saudi women have been asking for the right to drive, and finally it arrived,” she said by phone. “We have been waiting for a very long time.

The women who participated in the 1990 protest were arrested and some of them were sacked from their work places.

Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest sites, is an absolute monarchy ruled according to Shariah law.
The official reasons for stopping women from driving  range from  it being inappropriate in Saudi culture for women to drive, or that male drivers would not know how to handle having women in cars next to them. Others argued that allowing women to drive would lead to promiscuity and the collapse of the Saudi family.

In fact, one cleric claimed that driving harmed women’s ovaries but did not provide any evidence to back up the claim.

“This is a historic big day in our kingdom,” Prince Khaled bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the US, said on Tuesday in a briefing with reporters.

Salman described the step as “part of Vision 2030, which is a huge step toward a brighter future.”
He explained that the country’s economic reinvention plan rests on key pillars such as youth empowerment, social organization and women’s empowerment, “which is an extremely important element of the changes happening in Saudi Arabia,” the ambassador said.

“We are trying to increase women’s participation in the workforce,” bin Salman said.
“In order to change women’s participation in the workforce we need them to be able to drive to work,” said bin Salman, who is a son of the current king and a brother of the crown prince. “We need them to move forward, we need them to improve our economy.”

17 Cases Filed In Court Over Magu’s Retention as EFCC Acting Chair

At least 17 cases have been filed at different courts across the country over the retention of Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Lawyers in one of the cases filed before Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court in Abuja told the court on Tuesday that a related case was filed in the Yola Division of the court in Adamawa State, while another case on the same subject is before the Kano Division of the Federal High Court, the Punch reports.

It was learnt that some of the 17 cases were in support of Magu, while the rest sought Magu’s removal from office on the grounds that he had been rejected by the Senate.

One of the pro-Magu suits was the one being heard by Justice Kolawole on Tuesday. During the hearing, two lawyers, representing two different law firms, presented separate letters of engagement to them to represent the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and the Senate.

While Mr. S. O. Alhassan presented a letter, which engaged his law firm in June, Mr. Peter Abang presented a letter briefing his law firm in August.

The judge directed the two lawyers to sort out the conflicting briefs they got from the Senate before the next hearing date for the particular suit, which was filed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Jibrin Okutepa.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the AGF, the National Assembly, the Senate and Saraki are the respondents to this suit.

Meanwhile, Musa Abdul, who represented the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), told the court that the  AGF had written to the former Chief Judge of the court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, seeking the consolidation of the cases.

He said the AGF’s office was aware of 10 cases in respect of Magu’s chairmanship of the EFCC. He argued that it was necessary to have all the cases merged and heard by one judge to avoid a situation where judges will give conflicting rulings on the case.

But one of the two lawyers, seeking to represent the Senate and Saraki in the case, Abang, said he was aware of 17 cases, not 10.

There are, in fact, 17 cases on this subject matter. In fact, I will be appearing before Justice A. R. Mohammed in another case concerning the subject matter immediately I leave this court.
“We also have a similar suit in the Kano Division of the court,” he added.

He said his law firm had also formally requested the Chief Judge to consolidate the cases.
After listening to the parties, Justice Kolawole directed them to bring to the attention of the Acting Chief Judge of the FHC, Justice Abdu Kafarati, efforts that had been made to get the cases heard by one judge.

The rejection of Magu by the Senate sparked a disagreement between the executive and the Senate. After the presidency decided to keep Magu in an acting position, the Senate vowed it would no longer entertain the confirmation of nominees from the Presidency.

Wanted Boko Haram Kingpin Arrested in Ondo

The fight against insurgency received a boost after a wanted Boko Haram terrorist kingpin was arrested in Ondo State, south-west Nigeria.

This was made known in a statement signed by the director of Army Public relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman, who said the arrest was carried out by the Ondo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force.

According to Gen. Usman, the suspect, Idris Ibrahim Babawo, 42, who also goes by the nicknames “Idoko” and “Nagada”, was nabbed on Sunday 24th September 2017 at about 2pm.

He was one of the terrorists declared wanted by the Nigerian Army at the height of the insurgency in the north-east, Vanguard writes.

“Babawo is believed to be on serial number 156 on the wanted Boko Haram terrorists list,” the statement read.

“He was handed over to the 32 Brigade, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, at about 2pm on Monday 25th September 2017 by the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the terrorist kingpin hailed from Chinade village, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He escaped from the North East due to military onslaught on the terrorists with a view to evade arrest and prosecution. But nemesis caught up with him.”

A number of Boko Haram commanders have been arrested by the Nigerian Army since intensifying operations in the north-east, forcing the terrorists to resort to ambushes and raid on soft targets.
