Following widespread reports about a video showing a British Airways hostess making crude remarks about Nigerians ahead of a flight from London to Abuja, the airline has announced the dismissal of the erring flight attendant.
The hostess, Joanne Wickenden, was sacked after a 2-hour meeting with the airline’s management on Tuesday where she claimed the video was ‘a joke.’
In a statement released by the airline on Tuesday, British Airways claimed Wickenden, aged 23, no longer worked with the airline.
‘We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways,’ the statement said.
The 23-year-old hostess has also denied being racist while one of her friends told reporters that a colleague had encouraged Wickenden to act out what happens on the plane.
‘I have been framed by another BA employee. They were encouraging me, egging me on to say things. They were recording me and sent it around to our friends,’ Wickenden told Daily Mail.
Wickenden has also reportedly indicated that she is no longer interested in flying.
