US Discharges Two Ebola Patients From Hospital

An American medical doctor, Dr. Kent Brantly and another aid worker , Nancy Writebol have been discharged from the quarantine unit of the Emory University Hospital, United States of America on Thursday.

Brantly and Writebol, who were infected with the Ebola virus while volunteering to treat infected patients in Liberia, have been certified virus-free by experts at the hospital.

They are the first Americans to survive Ebola.They were also the first patients to have received the experimental Ebola serum, ZMapp, a drug that may have saved their lives.

Nigeria has also discharged five Ebola patients this week. They were however managed with routine drugs available in the country.

The Director, Emory’s Infectious Disease Unit, Dr. Bruce Ribner, in a statement according to the CNN on Thursday, stated that they are now free to go to their normal lives, as they pose no threat of infection to the public.

An elated Brantly at a news conference on Thursday said, “Today is a miraculous day. I am thrilled to be alive, to be well and to be reunited with my family.”

Ribner said at the news conference,

“We are tremendously pleased with Dr. Brantly and Mrs. Writebol’s recovery.

“What we learned in caring for them will help advance the world’s understanding of how to treat Ebola infections and help, hopefully, to improve survival in other parts of the world.”

Jackie Chan’s son Jaycee was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession on Aug. 14, and Jackie is ‘ashamed’ about it, according to a new report.

Jackie Chan who is now 60 years old is blaming himself after the incident. The actor reportedly posted online that Jaycee’s arrest is his own fault because he “failed to educate” his son.

“Regarding this issue with my son Jaycee, I feel very angry and very shocked. As a public figure, I’m very ashamed. As a father, I’m heartbroken. I have failed to educate my son. I must also take responsibility, and in my son’s name take a deep bow and apologize to the public.”

iPhone 6: leaked photos show possible design

Leaked images of front and back casings purport to show the final design of the iPhone 6 , which appears to be reminiscent of the first iPhone.

The unverified images were posted by luxury phone brand Feld and Volk on its Instagram account , with Apple blog MacRumors, claiming to show a leaked photos of the iPhone 6’s body from pre-production front and rear parts.

The photos resemble the design of the original iPhone launched in 2007 , which had curved metal edges and a metal back.

The veracity of the photos could not be confirmed and they could easily be a clone of the iPhone or leaks to spread mis-information.

Five New Ebola Cases Recorded In Lagos

According to punch, Lagos State Government on Wednesday said it has recorded five new suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease on Tuesday.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who disclosed this at a press conference in Alausa Ikeja, added that two of the fresh suspected cases were secondary contacts.

He explained further that the remaining three were primary contacts with the late Liberian, Patrick Sawyer who imported the disease into the country.

The commissioner said, “The fresh suspected cases have increased the number of patients in isolation wards from two to six.”

Idris explained that there were three suspected cases before the five new cases were brought in. He added that the suspected case  a Liberian who was brought into the isolation centre from the Muritala Muhammed International Airport ─ had been released, having tested negative to the Ebola Virus Disease.

He said, “Till date, we have recorded eight suspected cases, five of which were brought in yesterday. We have 12 confirmed cases on the whole out of which five have died and five have been discharged. We are currently following up on 213 contacts while 62 have completed the 21-day follow-up.”
