About GenVoices
Generational Voices (GenVoices) is a growing global movement of 18-40 year olds supported by a dynamic group of older mentors & contributors. It was conceived as a means to convert the online and offline energy of young Nigerians into practical efforts towards national development. It is clear that without positive participation in governance and policy, this generation will be availed little opportunity to make widespread and definitive impact – so we focus on birthing innovation, fostering dialogue, encouraging acts of service and driving change. GenVoices will raise, support, fund and inspire projects, platforms and individuals to deliver social, technological, economic and political (S.T.E.P) solutions to our country’s problems. With a humble sense of responsibility and maturity, we will guard the hopes of young Nigerians as we help to build this nation. Rumors went by and fast earlier this week that Enugu born and bred rapper Phyno is expecting a child from upcoming artiste, Rita Edmond.
Phyno in an interview with Punch swiftly denied any of such; he said;
“Believe it or not, I’ve never met or spoken to anyone by that name. I haven’t made any woman pregnant either. If people need three seconds of fame I’m glad that my name could help.”

appalling. Still hopeful it won’t be
passed into law virg."

"Agree people should be free to love
whoever they want? Everyone should speak out to challenge injustices virg".

Last month I spoke out on the dreadful situation in Uganda, where MPs have passed a bill making homosexuality punishable by life imprisonment and not reporting gay people punishable by extremely strong jail sentences.
Iyanya Speaks On Why Nigerian Entertainers Are Forced To Live Flamboyant Lifestyles
Check out the excerpts from the interview:
“Why do you think some artistes come come up with hit songs and find it difficult to maintain it?”
Iyanya “Music is very expensive. Most of them make money and its had to put it back in the same thing. Your next money is not guaranteed because there are lots of artistes. If you say you wouldn’t do show A, they can take artiste B for that show. It doesn’t mean that because you have a hit song, you would be performing at all shows. It doesn’t work like that. So, some of these guys, its hard for them. Its hard for them to follow up. Follow up is the hardest thing to do. Many artistes make a hit but the money they make from that hit is not even enough for them to support or sponsor the next video. So don’t blame them’.
So they need a lot of money to remain relevant?
Iyanya “Yes. Let me give you an instance. I had a show here in Lagos, I was in Dubai. They made a mistake and booked my flight for Monday and the show was on Sunday. We rushed to the airport, they said no that my ticket was for the next day. After much pleading and explaining that I had a show that night in Lagos, they said alright. I could board but not business class since it wasn’t my flight. I had to fly economy class with my business class ticket. Sitting down there, people around where staring at me like what am I doing here. A woman even walked up to me and said “Iyanya, you no suppose dey here now, na the other side you suppose dey”. What came to my mind next was that I can’t just decide to fly economy today, it will become gist. I have to work hard, I have to make money, to live up to your expectations. It’s not like am living my life for you but its the life I chose. So, I have to do it”.

How Nigerians Broke My Relationship With Angelo - Beverly Osu Opens Up

In a recent interview, she opened up about her relationship with Bimp and blamed Nigerians for her break-up with Angelo.
See excerpts from the interview:
What is your relationship with Bimp?
We are close, everybody knows this right from the house. People think we are dating because he is always in Nigeria but we are good friends. Can’t I have a friend that is a boy?
What’s up with you and Angelo now?
We have broken up. Is it not Nigerians that caused it?
How did Nigerians cause it?
Today, one paper will say Beverly is with this man, tomorrow another paper will say another thing, I don’t know.
You and your friend/former manager Charity Owoh reportedly fought over Bimp, how true? We are good; there is no issue between us. Yes, she was my manager but it’s just that we were mixing business with pleasure so I had to get another manager who is level headed and would take things serious that’s all. I’m hardly around so we don’t see each other most of the time.
GAY LAW: We’re Not Imposing Our Culture On Nigeria, But We're Disappointed - EU
He, however, expressed concern over the same sex marriage prohibition Act recently signed into law by President Goodluck Jonathan, stressing that the law contradicted the 1999 Constitution, hence his concern about the rights of all Nigerians, irrespective of sexual orientation.
This came as British government expressed disappointment that the Nigerian same sex marriage Bill had received Presidential assent.
Westcott, who has been in the country since Monday during a press briefing at the European Union Mission in Abuja, said: “Just in the last few days, the same sex marriage prohibition Act which has been signed into law, which provides some concerns to us, we trying to explain to you clearly what our concerns are so that our position can be understood, just as we want to understand Nigeria’s position on it.
European morality and Nigeria
“We are not telling Nigeria what kind of legislation it should have, that is for Nigerian people. We are not advocating that homosexuality or same sex marriage should be recognised. We are not trying to impose our morality or our culture; Nigeria has its culture, Nigeria has its approach of doing things and there should be mutual respect.
“We are concerned about the human rights and freedoms of all Nigerians as enshrined in Nigeria’s own constitution and as enshrined in international conventions to which Nigeria is a party.
And our concern is that this Act contravenes some of those provisions and puts at risk some of the fundamental freedoms that all Nigerian people should enjoy – the freedom of expression, the freedom of association, etc. That is our concern.
Minorities
“But I think all minorities will be concerned about that, not just gay community, but all minorities, to respect their freedom guaranteed by international convention, by Nigeria’s constitution. It will be for Nigeria to respond to this concerns but I have to express them.
“It was a concern shared by all and I represented my boss. Catherine Aston has expressed concern in a statement already with you today. So we believe that care needs to be taken to preserve some freedoms of all minorities in Nigeria. They should be protected as provided in the constitution.”
In the same vein, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, Catherine Ashton, in a statement in Abuja yesterday, said the law was at variance with international agreements to which Nigeria is a party.
“I am concerned about the signing into law in Nigeria of the same sex Marraige Prohibition Act. The European Union is opposed to discrimination on the ground of sexual orientation.
“It is firmly committed to human rights and rule of law in respect of those rights, including freedom of association, conscience and speech and equality of persons. It supports the respect of human rights in all countries of the world.
Contradiction with fundamental rights
“I am, therefore, particularly concerned that some provisions of the Act appear to be in contradiction with those fundamental rights, which are themselves guaranteed by Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, and to be inconsistent with the legal obligations enshrined in a number of international agreements to which Nigeria is a party,” Ashton said.
Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary has expressed disappointment over President Goodluck Jonathan’s assent to the same sex marriage Bill.
Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice, Jeremy Wright, said: “ The UK is a close friend of Nigeria, but we are disappointed that President Jonathan has given his assent to a Bill which will further criminalise same sex relationships in Nigeria. The UK opposes any discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
“The Bill also directly infringes on fundamental rights of expression and association, which are guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution and by Nigeria’s international treaty obligations.”
“We are concerned by the prospect this raises of further action against an already marginalised section of society.”
