Nigerian lady sues American airlines for $3.4m over ruined wedding dress

A Nigerian woman is suing American airlines after they allegedly ruined her wedding dress.

The New Jersey based bride,Yewande Oteh and her family, Oteh, who was flying with the gown to Jamaica for her wedding, claims that an American Airlines ticket agent told her she could bring the gown onboard and store it in a hanging closet.

It was on the plane that Oteh alleges American Airlines flight attendant Melanie Masters "became indignant and agitated, and began to talk to plaintiff in a hostile aggressive way, instructing her that the closet space was not for passengers," leading to the dress being packed in an overhead bin.

Oteh then alleges that she the attendant, Masters put something in the bin later on the flight... and when the bin was opened later by airport workers (because Oteh didn't want to interact with Masters again), the dress was reportedly soaked through with red wine.

According to the Cosmopolitan ,Oteh is now suing American Airlines for not just the dress damages and various costs and fees, but also for causing physical and emotional distress. The total suit is asking for $3.4 million — $850,000 for each count of "Negligence, Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress and Negligent Hiring and Negligent Retention."

The alleged incident happened in 2015. Oteh's sister brought her a few wedding dresses from Florida. There are pictures of Oteh smiling at her wedding, wearing a different wedding dress from the one she'd hoped to wear.

Still, the lawsuit says that Oteh was so upset that some events during the festivities had to be canceled.

Masters, for her part, has this to say: "It really didn't go like that at all."
