London Officials Cancel Felabration Event [DETAILS INSIDE]

The Felabration event which was billed to hold at the Notting Hill Carnival yesterday in London, was canceled due to license expiration. The event which was organized to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, did not hold because the organizers of the event failed to secure a license for the event.

According to a security personnel at the venue, the event did not take place because “the licence to hold a live performance expired on the preceding day.”
One of the members of Fela’s management team later spoke on the issue and revealed that the organizers should have processed the license six months prior to the event. He later confirmed that “it (the event) is not happening.”

Another member of the team quipped “l’m glad I’m going to Lagos for the proper Felabration in October.”

Reacting to the situation, Femi Kuti said:

“we trusted people who live in the UK and are supposed to know the rules but they let us down and we can’t even find them to tell us the truth. We have learnt a big lesson but we assure all lovers of Felabration that next year will be stronger and better.”

Ycee Blasts Head Of Sony Music Africa, Says The Deal Is A Scam

Popular Nigerian rapper, Ycee recently put an individual believed to be an executive of Sony Music, on blast. The rapper tweeted degrading words at the man named Michael Ugwu, supposedly at the helm of operations for Sony Music Africa.

Ycee who signed a deal with the international company in 2016, accused the company of milking artistes and his tweets suggests that he sees the “Sony Deal” as a greek gift. From his posts, it is clear that Ycee feels cheated by Sony Music and he accused them of “raping” their signed acts.

The rapper’s dissatisfaction and criticism of Sony Music is similar to the claims of Davido, when he publicly criticized the company and its management. Before now, the “Sony Deal” was considered as a prop towards achieving the goal of globalizing the African sound but with the claims of Ycee and Davido, it seems there is more to it than meets the eye.

Ex-teacher who asked students to rub lotion on her sues Education Department

An ex-Manhattan teacher who asked students to rub lotion on her legs and comb her hair is suing the Department of Education so she can get another job.

Monica Johnson claims she has overcome personal issues that led to the unusual classroom activities, and needs to be cleared to work for a school vendor.

Johnson, who taught the fifth grade, was pulled out of Public School 123 in 2006 following an array of accusations.
In one instance, she called a student “a liar and a thief” and threw an object across the room, according to papers. In 2004 and 2005, she received formal warnings over allegations of corporal punishment of students.

But that wasn’t all.

“You instructed students to massage lotion on your legs and feet, and to comb your hair during instructional time,” the Department of Education wrote in a letter.

She was officially fired in 2008 from her job that paid $57,370 a year.

The ouster came back to haunt the 49-year-old educator last year, when she was offered a job as an after-school site manager for the social services organization University Settlement.

The job offer was rescinded after University Settlement — a Department of Education vendor — learned the reason for Johnson’s firing, court papers indicate.

At the time she got in trouble, Johnson said she had been misdiagnosed with cancer, had endured a nasty custody battle and was homeless.

Johnson, who is representing herself in the case, said she now knows that “professionalism is a non-negotiable” and wants a second chance.
Ms. Johnson’s behavior was inappropriate and completely unacceptable, and she is no longer eligible to work in our schools,” an Education Department spokesman said.

Exclusive: The real story of the white man almost killed with a cutlass in a home in Ikorodu

Last night, we shared the story of a white man who was almost killed with a cutlass by a Nigerian man inside a house in Ikorodu. The people who shared the video said it was an alleged Badoo member who perpetuated the crime.

LIB sent a reporter to the area where the incident happened and here's what we gathered. The man is actually Pakinstani with American citizenship as he was returning from the US the night he was nearly killed. The person who nearly killed him was his adopted son.

After he was rescued and taken to the hospital, the Pakistani man told the police that the man who attacked him was his adopted son. That when he told the adopted son that he was arriving Nigeria that night, the young man volunteered to pick him from the airport and take him to his house. But on their way, the man asked if they could stop by his house for him to do something and being that the young man was someone known to him and he trusted him, he accepted to go to his house. He said when they got there, the adopted son started acting odd, and before he knew what was happening, he attacked him from the back with a cutlass, targeting his head. He said he fought for his life and tried to save himself from the verocious attack. He started screaming, and the screaming attracted the landlord who burst into the room to see what was happening. At that point, the adopted son abandoned his weapon and escaped.

The victim was brought out of the room and taken to a hospital in Ikorodu where doctors stitched him up as he had bled a lot. The following day, the man discharged himself from the hospital in Ikorodu and is now being treated at undisclosed hospital in Surulere.

The adopted son hasn't yet been arrested. The police only detained the landlord to get information from him after which he was released.

They are a minority but they know how to act like they're a majority."

9 year old girl vanishes at family wedding

Police fear a 9-year-old girl who vanished at a wedding may have been bundled into a car by kidnappers, it has been claimed.

Maëlys De Araujo was last seen at around 3am local time in the early hours of Sunday at a village hall in Pont-de-Beauvoisin, Isère, southeastern France.

When her family couldn't find her, it was first assumed she may have fallen asleep in a corner while playing hide-and-seek with friends.

But after an hour searching in vain, police were called and a major investigation launched.

Maëlys was at the event with her mum, who was the bride's cousin, her dad and her older sister. But after 48 hours without a sign of the girl, a formal kidnapping investigation is underway which has gripped the French public.

20 cultists attack, injure four LASPOTECH students

Suspected cultists numbering about 20 Monday night stormed the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) hostile at Ikorodu injuring four.

Those injured were said to be students of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, who were asleep at the time their attackers struck.

They were identified as Masud Sanusi, Sherif Muhammad, Kazeem Adebayo and Salawu Jamiu.

It was gathered that the cultists had earlier stormed the premises in the guise of looking for a rival cultist and some items he might have dropped there.

The Nation learnt that when they did not see anything, the hoodlums left only to return around 9pm and started attacking occupants of the hostile.

According to the state’s MSSN President, Dr. Saheed Ashafa, the attack was to forcefully initiate a Muslim student.

He said: “Our members in Ikorodu were attacked by cultists in their hostel last night (Monday). According to the report sent to me on Tuesday, they (the attackers) were actually trying to initiate a brother (Muslim student) in Ordinary National Diploma (OND) one (part time).

“So they wanted to intimidate the MSSN hostel where he resides to get their way. I was informed that the cultists have been threatening him from school with the support of a lecturer.

“They had access to the hostel at first by claiming that they are searching for their missing item but later said they were looking for a student who usually hung around the hostile.
“They left and around 9pm, returned numbering aboit 20 and started attacking our brothers. One was seriously injured and three others sustained minor injuries.
“When I got there four of the suspects have been arrested and handed over to the school security.  They were interrogated and released but the school management said they would investigate the matter and get all those involved.

“They said they allowed them to go because they need to get all those who took part in the attack. They also said that some of the suspects already have previous cases hanging on their necks.”

Irked by the attack, MSSN LASPOTECH chapter described the attack as injustice of the greatest order, which they would not condone.
