According to Punch, Confusion reigned on Wednesday at the emergency delegates meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association in Abuja on as the medical doctors were divided on whether they should suspend their nationwide strike or not.
It was learnt that the executive council had given a directive to members of the Lagos State chapter to suspend its strike to allow doctors to join the state government in containing the Ebola virus in the state.
After an intense debate, which lasted till the early hours of Thursday, the doctors vowed to continue with the strike. One of the doctors from Lagos State at the meeting, Dr. Peter Ogunnubi, confirmed to our correspondent that the doctors had not suspended the strike.
Ogunnubi said, “We have not suspended the strike. We are ready to work with the government to tackle the Ebola threat, but it must put measures in place to protect our lives too.
“Strike will not come in the way of us volunteering to treat affected persons; we are already on the ground at Mainland Hospital.”
