Giving insight into how the incident happened, Edgal, Lagos Police boss told Vanguard:

Suitor dies in Katsina marriage flogging game

A young man, Yari Inusa, has died while competing with another suitor for a lady’s hand in marriage.

The incident happened at Durmin Biri village, in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Police sources said the man died following injuries he sustained on the head when he engaged in a Fulani traditional game of Sharo with another man, Ahmed Saidu, to determine who would marry the lady.

Sharo game entails two male suitors flogging each other for a woman’s hand in marriage. Whoever wins between them will marry the girl.

Inusa had reportedly flogged Saidu without any incident, but tragedy struck when it was the turn of Saidu to flog Inusa.

Saidu allegedly hit Inusa on the head, instead of hitting him on the back as the rules of the game dictates.

Inusa was said to have fainted after he was hit on the head; and eventual died.

The Katsina State Police Command spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.

He said, “Inusa’s father, Mallam, reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of Saidu.”He said Inusa’s corpse had been released to the family and buried according to Islamic rites.

Notorious B.I.G Warned Me Not To Listen To His Music, Mom Reveals

During the late 1990s when the Notorious B.I.G. emerged as rap’s top performer, detailing street life in Brooklyn on songs and albums that dominated the pop charts, his mother didn’t think much of his music, which she used to call “noise.”

Now, she can’t live without that noise.

Voletta Wallace says after her son died in 1997, she connected with his music and fell in love with Christopher Wallace, the artist.

“I remembered my son said, ‘Don’t listen to my music.’ And I never listened to his music. I heard it on the radio and it sounded good, because it was clean. But I said, ‘You know what, I have to. I have to listen to that music.’ And that’s what I did,” Wallace said in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

“I cried so much that day just listening to the music. I remember I sat, I stood. I rested my head on the stereo and I just cried like a baby. And that was therapy for me. And I said, ‘Oh my God — that was a talented young man to put those words together.’ He had a beautiful voice. I love his voice.”

Biggie: The Life of Notorious B.I.G.

Wallace details the love for the Notorious B.I.G. as both his mother and No. 1 fan in the new, three-hour documentary, Biggie: The Life of Notorious B.I.G. It debuts on Monday in the US.

In the film, directed by Emmy nominee Mark Ford, rap acts such as Jay-Z and Nas discuss B.I.G.’s impact on hip-hop culture, and Wallace said watching those performers speak passionately about her son helped her understand his importance in music, and made her a true fan of rap music.

“I appreciate these other artists out there, too — because believe me, they were just people making noises. But now they have a story,” said Wallace, an executive producer of the film.

Michelle Obama, Serena Williams channel Beyoncé for birthday surprise

Beyoncé’s friends and family got in formation to celebrate her birthday.

That’s right, 36 years ago the queen of corny jokes, Tina Knowles Lawson, welcomed Queen Bey into the world ? and Bey hasn’t stopped slaying ever since. So it’s only fitting that her closest friends and family pay tribute to the woman who’s inspired them to put their love on top.

On Monday, the singer’s official website shared a series of portraits of various important women in Beyoncé’s life dressed in the now-iconic look from her “Formation” music video.

The photos included former first lady Michelle Obama and new mom Serena Williams, protégés Chloe x Halle, Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams and, of course, mom herself, all of whom donned the wide-brimmed black hat, long braids and a statement necklace for the gods.

“Happy birthday Beyonce / From your family and friends,” reads the message on her website.

Alongside the photos was a link to the singer’s BeyGOOD Houston initiative, which will help with long-term revitalization and aid after Hurricane Harvey in her hometown by supplying cots, blankets and pillows, baby products, feminine products and wheelchairs in the wake of historic flooding.

The portraits naturally left the The BeyHive shook (and then some) on social media, as fans celebrated their queen’s birthday and the thrilling prospect of having new phone backgrounds until the end of time

Gang raped as birthday gift; the sad story of faithful lesbian

A 21-year old resident at Mataheko in Accra says she has been forced to change her birthday because it was the day she suffered rape at the hands of a trusted friend.

"I met my friend and he said he has been looking for me to present a birthday gift at home..he told me he is going to give me a birthday gift I will never forget in my life", she said in an interview wit Joy News Fred Smith.

Without second thoughts, she followed him home to find four other boys in his friend's room.

In the presence of masculine fortress, quick dazing slaps from the boys followed and left her lying down on a bed.

She said two of the boys held her legs wide open, two others her hands, in a posture that left her helpless.

"It was my friend who started with the rape" she remembered the beginning of the gang rape but fails to remember the end as she fell unconscious.

Mariam was 14 years. And three months before she turned 15, the teenager delivered. The gift she got during the rape has now been given to another relative as a gift, Fred Smith reported.
The trauma has been scary for her and the family. The teenager has flirted with insanity at the thought of the ordeal, taunts from the rapists and a pussyfooting police service at Korle-Bu police station.

"I started behaving like a mad girl. I was down. Sometimes I would scream,  I would shout. I was admitted to the Psychiatric hospital, moving from hospital to hospital, from medication to medication just to bring me back to normal"

She said her rapist sent messages through friends they will never be arrested. Their prediction has been spot-on.

"We were supposed to arrest them but the police are not willing to support. I don't know why?.
"Sometimes we will go there with my father and report their whereabouts but the police[man] will say he is the only person in the station and cannot leave to arrest a mere criminal."

Mariam said she has stood at the precipice of suicide at least four times.
"I drank parazone two times. I drank DDT once and I cut myself with a knife" she revealed a persistent desire to leave the world that appeared too small to contain her and her rapists.

But the tears of her parents, their fears of another attempt and the pumping of monies into medication and healthcare, got her to re-think her exit strategy.

"My mum and my dad they have done all that they could do. Even though I am the first child I am pampered like a last baby" she smiled.

And embrace life as her parents embraced her in her ordeal. My attackers are happy and roaming about. Why not me, she reasoned her way out of suicide.

Miriam said majority have come to accept rape as a minor crime in the Mataheko-Gaskiya Zongo community.

"I am not the first and am not the last. The way our hood is ...gang rape is normal".
Mariam is now 21-years. Her rape happened seven years ago. That non-consensual heterosexual ordeal has banished any romantic urge for men.

"I started having hatred for guys", a cringing recollection of the incident had done a surgery on her sexual orientation.

Mariam is now a lesbian and she has been in the same-sex relationship for over year.

Yvonne Nelson seeks signatures to petition government over 'dying movie industry'

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, is soliciting signatures from stakeholders in the movie industry to petition government over the difficulties facing the Ghanaian movie business and seek support to lift the image of the industry.

Yvonne is calling on stakeholders to unite, pull their resources together and help revive the ‘dying movie industry’.

In a letter to stakeholders, the award-winning actress said: “We have heard some of our own on countless occasions slamming the industry for its decline with the favourite words ‘Ghana movie industry is dead’. It is quiet disturbing to hear these words being uttered when asked about our industry. A once well-structured industry with lots of entertainment to give cannot, and will not be abandoned for it to be ruined.”

The multiple award-winning actress said the aim is for the industry players to unite to get audience from government and private investors.

“We aim to present a petition to the President and the Minister of Tourism, Creative arts and Culture citing the difficulties facing us in the industry. We want to bring unity to all industry players, we aim to uplift the Ghana movie industry again for the better by making sure there is allocation of special funds for producers, right payment structures for all involved in the industry especially the thespians, royalties and its right disbursement, local content being the major viewers’ choice on our networks and allocation of cinema halls in five major regions across the country,” she stated.

In her opinion when this is done, “jobs will be created; we will showcase the country and its rich culture all over the country and to the world to promote tourism the right way and bring in investors to our nation”.

“If we unite we can make our voices heard,” she added.

Bride looks miserable after she was forced to marry teacher by president of Tajikistan

A bride looked visibly miserable  after she was given just a few days notice that she was to marry an impoverished history teacher.

The match between bride Marjona Hudoidodova and Saidsho Asrorov, 23, was arranged by Tajikistani's all-powerful dictator Emomali Rahmon.
But while the groom appears thrilled with the match , 22-year-old Marjona did not smile at all during the ceremony.

Arranged marriages are common in Muslim Tajikistan, although it is rare for the president to order them.

A "matchmaking committee", run by a local apparatchik in charge of ideology, was formed to find Saidsho a bride.
President Rahmon stepped in after the teacher read a sycophantic poem at a gathering attended by the Tajik strongman who has ruled the ex-Soviet republic for a quarter of a century.

In the poem that won him a bride, Saidsho praised the president for his role in "supporting education and the upbringing of the young generation" in Tajikistan.

Saidsho told Radio Free Europe:
"The president asked me about my life and family. He asked if I was married. I answered 'no.'
"Then he instructed the district leadership to decide on my marriage."

Anxious to appease the 64-year-old leader, Marjona was nominated as Saidsho's bride after the committee spoke to her parents.Ten days later the couple were married.

During the ceremony Marjona avoided eye-contact with her new husband.

"The matchmakers communicated with my parents," she said. "My parents agreed to allow me to marry the man on the condition that I am allowed to continue to work.
"I want to continue working as a nurse in a hospital. My groom agreed that I would continue working."
