PHARRELL, STEVIE WONDER, SAM SMITH, &LORDE UNITE IN ‘GOD ONLY KNOWS’ VIDEO

The biggest names in music come
together for one epic video. To celebrate the launch of BBC Music, Pharrell, Stevie Wonder, Sam Smith, Lorde, Emeli Sandé, and more have remade the Beach Boys 1966 classic “God Only Knows.”

Pharrell looks dapper in a tuxedo, Lorde rocks angel wings, Elton John wears a suit covered in butterflies, and Kylie Minogue floats in a bubble. The whimsical visuals also feature appearances from Coldplay’s Chris Martin, One Direction, Queen’s Brian May, Florence Welch, and Brian Wilson himself.

“All of the artists did such a beautiful job I can’t thank them enough,” said the Beach Boys frontman. “I’m just honored that ‘God Only Knows’ was chosen. ‘God Only Knows’ is a very special song. An extremely spiritual song and one of the best I’ve ever written.”

Proceeds from sales of the song will
benefit BBC’s Children in Need foundation.

“I slept on the streets of Ghana before stardom” - Patoranking

Patoranking is one of those celebrities who had to hustle very hard before they got to the top. Like some people would say 'Every great man and woman has a sad story to tell', which is obviously true.

Nneameka Okorie aka Patoranking, like that of most people, has not always had it rosy and easy. Patoranking was recently in Ghana for a show last week where he had an exclusive interview with top Ghanaian radio personality Bola Ray on Starr 103.5 FM.

In the course of the interview, he revealed that his music career actually started off in Ghana.

According to him, ‘I started music from my mum’s belly, but dancehall has always been something that I grew up listening to and it was perfected in Ghana.’

Patoranking’s first trip to Ghana, according to him, was in 2007 after he was admitted into Cape Coast University. After a year at the university, he dropped out due to financial constraints.

‘I had to move from Cape Coast to Accra. I was sleeping on the streets of Osu just to make it. We must make am now…survival at all cost’, he said before adding: ‘The only option I had at that point was making it in life because I just had to change the course of my family, the face of my family you know…being the first child…I just say thank you Lord and to everybody that never doubted me. I pray for them still and we’re still together,’ he added.

It is on record that while hustling in Ghana, Patoranking met a young Ghanaian entrepreneur named Lanky on the streets of Osu who partnered with him to achieve his dreams.
Lanky started a production company called Black Rhythms Entertainment and made a few tracks with him, the songs enjoyed some airplay but it was difficult to break through in Ghana so he returned to Nigeria and the rest, as they say, it history.

Why Davido missed the ‘Warri Again ’ concert

Fans were left disappointed when they learnt Davido would not perform at the Warri Again concert held in Warri, Delta State on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. I don't blame them really, after all who wouldn't want to watch Davido perform this year?

Although the 21-year-old hasn’t given a reason for his absence, a Vanguard Newspaper report has it that it was because the self styled Omo Baba Olowo missed his flight to Warri on the day of the concert.

Davido and his crew left the country for South Africa the following day where he has had to perform at a number of events including the opening of Big Brother Africa Hotshots on Sunday, October 5, 2014 alongside Tanzania’s Diamondz and South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest.

Ebola outbreak: Spain investigates new case

Investigations are under way at a hospital in Madrid after a Spanish nurse became the first person known to have contracted the deadly Ebola virus outside West Africa.

The nurse had treated two Spanish missionaries who died of the disease after being flown home from the region. The European Commission has asked Spain to explain how the nurse could have become infected. Some 3,400 people have died in the outbreak – mostly in West Africa.

The Spanish auxiliary nurse, a 40-year-old woman who has not been named, was one of about 30 staff at the Carlos III hospital in Madrid who had been treating priests Manuel Garcia Viejo and Miguel Pajares, officials say.

Mr Garcia Viejo, 69, died at the hospital on September 25 after catching Ebola in Sierra Leone. Miguel Pajares, 75, died in August after contracting the virus in Liberia.

The nurse had twice gone into the room where Mr Garcia Viejo had been treated – to be directly involved in his care and to disinfect the room after his death. Both times she was wearing protective clothing.  Madrid health care director Antonia Alemany told reporters that according to the information available: “The nurse went into the room wearing the individual protection gear and there’s no knowledge of an accidental exposure to risk.”

Shortly afterwards the nurse went on holiday, a hospital spokesman said, but fell ill on 30 September and was admitted to Alcorcon hospital in south-west Madrid on Sunday after being tested positive for Ebola.

Early on Tuesday she was moved under police escort to Carlos III hospital in the capital and is said to be in a stable condition.

Her husband has been placed under quarantine in hospital, public health director Mercedes Vinuesa told parliament on Tuesday, and a list of
people she may have had contact with was being drawn up so they could be monitored.

Popular American Singer Earns £80,000 Everyday Despite Not Releasing Album Since 2011

Adele has not released an album since 2011 but she still earns £80,000 a day.

Adele – whose last album, 21 came out in 2011, has earned £54 million in the last 22 months, up to December 31, 2013 through her two companies.

According to accounts details released yesterday, The Sun on Sunday newspaper reports the Melted Stone made £30.m million over 14 months up to April 2013, with a further £8 million coming in over the rest of the year.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old star paid herself a £5.2 million dividend in the second half of 2013 and drew a salary of £2.86 million in the latest accounting period, as opposed to £5.6 million for the previous 14 months.

In addition, her other company Melted Stone Publishing had sales of £14.4 million over the 22 months, and between them her, two firms have £13.1 million profits, all of which translate to £80,000 daily for the star.

The star is said to be working on her highly-anticipated third studio album, set to be released in 2015 and has undergone ‘photo-healing therapy’ to cure her fear of being pictured ahead of her return to the limelight.

A source previously said: ‘Adele has always been camera shy but with her big comeback imminent her fear of being thrust back into the limelight is growing.

‘She knows she will have paps following her every move when her album is released and wants to be better prepared.

‘A close friend recommended Adele got in touch with a photographer in the US known as ‘the photo healer’ for some Skype therapy sessions.’

According to what i just learnt, last night's ‘Monday Night Raw’ was the wildest ever! The Rock made a surprise appearance — and my source was in the audience at Barclays when it happened! Here’s exactly what went down.

The Rock hasn’t been seen in the wrestling world since he was at Wrestlemania 29 in 2013. But on Oct. 6, he returned to the ring! His appearance was completely unexpected and we heard the superstar flew to New York 

City today just for his appearance.

The Rock came out while Lana and Rusev were in the ring. Rusev was talking about how Russia is the best country in the world — he’s Russian, ofcourse. The crowd was chanting, “USA! USA! USA!” and that’s when The Rock emerged! The larger-than-life star made a long speech, then hit Rusev multiple times!

When The Rock arrived, the crowd understandably freaked out. People started chanting, “Holy sh*t, holy sh*t!” No one could believe what they were seeing. Then, people chanted, “This is awesome! This is awesome!” The whole crowd screamed his famous, “Can you smell what The Rock is cookin?” line with him.

During The Rock’s speech, he quoted Jay Z . He said, “Allow me to reintroduce myself.” He also talked about how he has visited all five boroughs. When he talked about The Bronx, he paid tribute to newly-retired baseball superstar Derek Jeter . The crowd went wild for that!

David Beckham launches his own brand of whiskey

The former England soccer star, David Beckham, teamed up with his business partner, Simon Fuller and alcoholic beverage company, Diageo to create the single grain scotch.

He celebrated the global launch at an exclusive, star-studded bash at Gilmerton house on the outskirts of Edinburgh in Scotland over the weekend.

The whiskey – entitled Haig Club – was served to guests including his wife Victoria Beckham, their pals Gordon and Tana Ramsay, Professor Jimmy Choo, Tracy Phillips, Raffy and Jo Manoukian, David Tao and Penny Jiang, Ruth Kennedy,Rose Uniacke and Owen Sullivan .

Welcoming the guests, Beckham gave a brief introduction about his new venture, saying: ‘ For Simon Fuller and I, this is a special night as we launch our new collaboration with Diageo, a wonderful whisky called Haig Club. This whiskey is designed to be different, from the unique craftsmanship of the bottle, to the distinctive flavour. Crafted at Scotland’s oldest grain distillery, Haig Club has rich tradition and amazing heritage that myself and Diageo are proud to be taking forward.’

Attendees were treated to the brand’s signature cocktails, a Clubman and Haig Club Rose fizz , as they arrived at the private retreat. The party also enjoyed a seven-course Michelin star dinner by esteemed chef, Tom Kitchin.

2015: Chief Chris Ijibike Ready ForThe Great Task Ahead

I never thought i would ever have to write a full article about a Nigerian politician. A very positive review for that matter. This was not for lack of optimism on my part, but for the lack of vision and purpose on their part.

The reality is that a good Nigerian politician is difficult to come by. The vast majority of the politicians elected into government are self-serving, corrupt and worse of all visionless. They are corrupt nationally, regionally and locally.
They are corrupt in the South and in the North, in the East and in the West.

After the era of visionary and selfless leaders like Awolowo, Azikiwe and Ahmadu Bello, we are lumbered with the misfortune of having so-called usurpers who think they are doing us a favour by carrying out what they are elected to do.

Chief Chris Ijibike an aspirant for the post of local government chairman under APGA is a departure from this filth. He is a breath of fresh air compared to many people who has held any executive position in Nigeria. He is so different that you can hardly believe he is one of us. He is genuinely and determinedly interested in changing the lives of his constituents for good.

His singular purpose in life is to bring succor to the down trodden, provide better life and a lasting legacy of superlative welfare and infrastructural facilities for his people by delivering the dividends of his democratic mandate and positively touch the lives of as many as he can with the warmth and kindness of someone who truly cares.

This is not to say he is perfect because no man is, but i can boldly say Chief Chris Ijibike is ready to take Ukwuani Local government, Delta state and Nigeria as a whole to the next level.

How one half of the singing Oshadipe twins died mysteriously

October 3, 2014 was a very sad day for us, the entertainment industry and the Oshadipe family. We were shocked when news hit town that one half of the singing Oshadipe twins, Taiwo, gave up the ghost. But since her sudden death, there have been a controversy as to how she died.

But speaking with The Nation, manager of the Oshadipes, Olu Akinsanya, explained that Taiwo may have died from complications arising from chest-related pains.

In his words, “The illness wasn’t serious. She felt better when she started taking the drugs. But surprisingly, she suffered a relapse this week. On Wednesday, she called her doctor who treated her at LASUTH and was told to come over to his private hospital, as hewouldn’t be around at LASUTH until Friday.

“She went to the hospital, where the doctor carried out some medical checks on her and gave her some drugs"  "He also gave her an appointment for Friday. But unfortunately, in the early hours of the day, she started complaining of pains. This time, it was very severe; so, her twin sister, Kehinde, decided to rush her to LASUTH. However, upon reaching the hospital, she was confirmed dead. So, by 8.00a.m., Kehinde called me and I had to rush to LASUTH to see her for myself.

“It is still very shocking to me. I saw her on Wednesday and we talked and joked. We even talked about my forthcoming wedding. She promised to play at my wedding, so she asked me not to invite any other musician.

“The autopsy report will be out soon. But I know she had recovered from the illness. The last thing she complained about was the chest pain and that was what led to her death two days after.”
