Horrific moment cops shoot dead ’drunk’ student on her birthday after she ploughs car into cop

This is the horrifying moment police shoot dead a university student on her birthday after she ploughed her car into a crowd.

The 22-year-old was celebrating her birthday when she drove her car into a police officer.

She was then shot dead by one of his colleagues in harrowing footage filmed in Miami Beach, Florida.

The chilling video shows Cariann Hithon, from Maryland, USA, crashing into several cars on Sunday as people watch from cafes.

Crowds gather around her damaged car, but then Cariann’s car starts to move and ploughs into a police officer standing in front of her vehicle.

Several shots are then fired into the car, which can be heard in the harrowing video.

Both Cariann and the police officer she crashed into were taken to hospital, where the 22-year-old, who was reportedly drunk, later died.

The detective, David Cajuso, has now been discharged from hospital.

John Butchko, a retired homicide detective, was in one of the cars Cariann had hit in the initial crash.

He told NBC Philidelphia: “t played out like a movie set with people running, screaming, car crashes, gunshots, an injured officer lying on his back on the ground — all within a minute.”

Both Butchko and his passenger Sean Ellsworth suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police have launched an investigation into the shooting.

Cariann was a student at Temple University and was studying political science and philosophy.

Her father, retired Navy Captain Cary Hilton, said: ” It’s hard to express the amount of pain and distress we feel.

“I can’t explain why she wouldn’t have listened.”

A 22-year-old man, Ryan Jerrell Lucas, was questioned by police.

2 Nigerians arrested for selling ‘dangerous’ drugs in Ghana

The Ashaiman District Police Command has arrested two Nigerians for dealing in what they believe to be harmful drugs without a licence.

According to a release by the Tema Regional Police Command, the two Nigerians, Ali Haruna, 48, and Ali Mubanoo, 50, were arrested at different locations upon a tip-off from an informant.

The two were arrested at Old Tulaku, a suburb of Ashaiman, whilst trading in the drugs.

A release signed by the Tema Regional Police PRO, ASP Joseph Darkwah, noted that the suspect, Ali Haruna, had in his possession one thousand (1,000) pieces of assorted dangerous drugs including Tramol, Diazem Tablets, Axzol tablets and nitrazepam, while the second suspect, Ali Mubanoo, had in his possession five hundred (500) pieces of assorted drugs including Tramol and Eskazepam among other assorted drugs, that requires a dealer to possess a license before retailing.

ASP Darkwah noted that, the suspects in their caution statement said they have been selling these drugs to their customers who are mostly the youth of Ashaiman.

The two are being processed for court to face prosecution.

The release advised persons dealing in such dangerous drugs, to desist since the police will clamp down on persons in such illegal trade.

Yaya Toure offers help to FIFA, Russia to curb racism

Former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Toure has offered his services to FIFA and the Russian government to help curb racism during next year's World Cup.

Toure is one of several players who suffered abuse when playing in the country in recent years when he was the victim of racist chants during a Champions League match for Manchester City against CSKA Moscow in 2013.

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong was red-carded when he gestured angrily to the crowd over alleged monkey chants in 2015, while Brazil international striker Hulk claimed to have suffered racism regularly during his time at Zenit St Petersburg.

Last week, Spartak Moscow was charged after Liverpool lodged a complained to UEFA when Bobby Adekanye was allegedly the victim of racial abuse during a UEFA Youth League match.

During a short film about discrimination in football in which he stars, Toure suggested the 2018 World Cup would be "a mess" if it is marred by racism.

"If racism situations are going to be involved, then it is going to be a big mess," 34-year-old said.

"We have to see change because people have been talking but nothing has really been taken care of.

"Everyone is talking about Russia maybe being a little bit difficult. But I hope that Russia surprises everybody by trying to make something very nice.

"I want to say to FIFA and to the government in Russia as well that if you need me I can help.

"I don't want to be involved in only talking.

"I want to see action and people be real. These things are very important for the future of football."

S.A police arrest man with over $700k stuffed in his suitcase

The police in South Africa, has arrested and charged a 38-year old man to court after more than 10m Rand ($740,000; £560,000) in cash, was found in his suitcase.
The man was detained at the Cape Town International airport. He had plans to fly to Dubai. Spokesman for the police force The Hawk, was quoted as saying, 'obviously our probe in this will be to determine the trail and origin of the money. We cannot rule out unearthing illicit activities as we go along'.

The man will appear at Bellville Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town on charges of contravening the Customs and Excise Act by failing to declare the cash.

As far as I am concerned, I’ve not touched her before. Maybe, it’s her spiritual husband that beat her up. She’s super hyper so I had to stay calm in our marriage. She’s stubborn so you can’t beat her.

Of cheques and gifts

Contrary to claims by Tonto Dikeh that she bought their family car by herself, Olakunle disclosed that he gave a $28,000 cheque to his ex-wife as a gift. Not just that, he added a push gift last Christmas.

“I gave her a 10 million Naira (approximately $28,000) cheque as a gift on Christmas and in addition showered her with a push present. I have a copy of the cheque with me so she should prove me wrong.”

Rwandan President Paul Kagame reportedly arrests mother and daughters over plan to run for Presidency

A viral report on Twitter, claims that Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, reportedly arrested a mother and her daughters, over daughter’s plan to run for Presidency.

It was gathered that the Rwandan authorities arrested Diane Shima Rwigara and charged her with “offenses against state security and forgery.” (She was already detained once before at the beginning of the month, though under different charges.) It’s clear to everyone, however, that her real crime was her attempt to run against incumbent Paul Kagame in the presidential election last month. Her mother and sister were also detained on similar charges. The three of them are expected to face trial in October. If Diane Rwigara is convicted on the state security charges, she’ll be facing a minimum of 20 years in prison.

Washington Post reports that Challenging the all-powerful Kagame would have already been enough to get the 35-year-old Rwigara in trouble. But she was especially bold about it. She chose to announce her protest movement the same day Kagame officially kicked off his campaign. Then she upped the ante by also demanding justice for the killers of her father, the businessman Assinapol Rwigara. He died in 2015 under what his family and many Rwandans consider suspicious circumstances, after years of tense relations with Kagame.

Redeemer’s University expels actor Macaroni on his graduation day over Facebook post(photo)

RCCG Pastor Adeboye’s Redeemer’s University dealt one of their students, Actor and entertainer Debo Adedayo aka Mr Macaroni, a heavy blow when they expelled him days before his graduation over a post he made on his Facebook page.

According to the university, Debo’s Facebook post was offensive and portrayed the university in bad light, an act that constitutes serious misconduct and punishable by expulsion.

A crushed Debo Adebayo took to his Instagram page to share his pain:

Most of you would observe that I have been silent about Redeemer’s University lately. For those of you who know about my University life, most of you called me and sent me series of text messages 2 weeks ago asking why I didn’t go for my convocation.. this and that… as it was quite clear that I should have graduated in flying colors.

Well, the management of Redeemer’s University denied me of my joy that day. I had waited so long for that day, and while waiting, I served Redeemer’s University with all my life.

First as Social Director in my 300Level and then as President of both the student association and the graduating class. I ask anyone reading this to call anyone he or she knows in Redeemer’s University including the management that dislikes me so much and ask who Debo Adedayo (Mr Macaroni) is.

If they will speak the truth with the fear of God, they will tell you that I served the University with all my life and heart. I can’t plunge into the achievements of my administration in Redeemer’s University because you will get tired. I used everything that God blessed me with to promote Redeemer’s University.

I left Redeemer’s University a debtor. All my life savings was used in paying school fees for other students and making sure students were at least comfortable in the most possible way. Please just ask around.

For me, leadership was and still is service, selflessness and sacrifice through discipline, integrity and accountability to those we as leaders claim to be of service to and by God’s grace in whose name I swear, this was what I stood for.

I wrote my final exams, defended my project and was awaiting convocation when I was summoned by the management of the University saying I posted certain things that put the University in bad light.

Excuse me?

In all my posts, I never mentioned the name of the University nor the name of any of her official. Yet on the 12th of this month, I received a letter of Expulsion for this supposed reason. I have been patient enough with the management of the University.

That I wasn’t given the joy to graduate on that day I waited patiently for broke my heart. Yet, I was willing to let that go out of love for my University.

Now look what I have been greeted with. I am trying to understand the reasons behind this action by the mgt of the University. Could it be because for the first time in history, my administration refused to give the Vice-Chancellor and Director of Student affairs awards on our students appreciation day as we reached the conclusion that they didn’t deserve it?

Or could it be because my administration fought passionately for students rights; food, water, light scarcity? Could it be because I stood for the rights of students when they were falsely accused of defrauding the University….. the list is endless as I am still trying to help the University find a reason for her action.

I can go on and on, but I would simply rest my case for now as my parents have decided to take legal action against the management of the University.

I am bringing this to your attention because of the concern you have all shown and also so that everyone I have advertised Redeemer’s University to can see how exactly I am being paid back for my dedication.

The post that got Debo expelled

This is the reason why I have been expelled from Redeemer’s University after years of passionate service and sacrifice to the University. I didn’t lead a riot as president of the Students Association, I didn’t steal, I didn’t fight, I didn’t break any rules and regulation.

I posted this after a meeting with Prof Wande Abimbola. The school mgt invited me for an ‘interaction’ and right there, I was told that the school mgt feels that this post is about them.

I repeated times without number that the post is simply an expression on issues of life and has nothing to do with Reedemer’s University. They however wanted me to admit by all means necessary that I was referring to the mgt of Redeemer’s University which I refused to.

I was asked to Go and weeks later I was denied the joy of attending my own Convocation. Now, I am greeted with a letter of expulsion for this post that I insist wasn’t for Reedemer’s University or anyone in it.

‘Let my mum rest in peace’, Patience Jonathan slams EFCC over alleged N2.1b laundering

Nigeria’s former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow her late mum Madam Charity Oba rest in peace after she denied using her late mother’s firm’s account to launder N2.114 billion.

According to her, the company, Magel Resort Limited, was not awarded a N200m IT contract by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

She said the EFCC was engaging in sheer blackmail to tarnish her image.

On Aruera Reachout Foundation, she said over 700 children had benefited from it, with billions of Naira spent.

The ex-First Lady made the clarifications in a statement through her Chief Press Secretary Belema Meshack-Hart.

The statement said:

“Our attention has been drawn to an article by Punch and the Nation on the 11th of October 2017, alleging that EFCC has traced N2.1bn to the account of Patience’s dead mother. These allegations are spurious, baseless and intended to mislead the public.

“We wish to state categorically that, the allegations are false and a grand design by EFCC to tarnish the image of the former first lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan.

“In their concocted report they claimed that the former first lady is a sole signatory of Magel Resort Limited, a Hotel owned by her late mum Mama Charity Oba. This is untrue as the former first lady had no dealings with the Hotel until the demise of her late mum after which the Hotel was handed over to her with the presentation of the death certificate of her mum.

“The late mother of the former first lady should be allowed to rest in peace.

“It was also alleged that N200m IT contract was awarded to Magel Resort Limited , this is a figment of the imagination of EFCC as no such contract was awarded to the company. EFCC must stop this media trial and blackmail aimed at tarnishing the image of the former first Lady and get down to the business of conducting proper investigations.

“Magel Resort Limited is a very successful company with over 2,000 staff, this is as a result of the hard work and relentless man hours put into it by the late mum of the former first lady who built the company from scratch. It is preposterous to say the least that N2.1bn in its coffers as alleged by EFCC was fraudulently acquired.

“The EFCC also alleges that N17billion has been traced to the former first lady, we believe this joke by the EFCC has been taken too far, as there is no available evidence to support this baseless claim.

“To prove her innocence the former first lady has filed N2bn fundamental human rights suit against the EFCC at the Federal High Court in Abuja.”

The ex-First Lady also faulted EFCC’s claim that she has $12.8million in a domiciliary account in Diamond Bank.

The statement continued:

“For avoidance of doubt Mrs Patience Jonathan does not have $12,831,173. domiciled in Diamond bank as alleged by EFCC. Anyone with proof should provide evidence and take advantage of the whistle blower policy. The issue of Skye Bank is in court and we believe in the integrity of the court to handle this case judiciously.

“The former first lady has never had any dealing with Bureau de Change operators and anyone with counter claims should come out with proof.

“The A. Aruera Reachout Foundation is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation established in 2006 by Dame Patience Faka Jonathan, the Former First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The Foundation has a medical unit which sponsors the treatment and surgery of children and some adults with heart conditions.

“To date, over 700 children have benefited from the A. Aruera Reachout Foundation, this alone cost the foundation billions, it is not news that the logistics involved in the treatment of heart disease cost over N5million per child. This demonstrates the caring and maternal nature of Nigeria’s Former First Lady.

“ Aruera Reachout Foundation has never been involved in financial crimes or money laundry of any form. All the directors of the NGO are men and women of integrity, highly competent and astute professionals. It is therefore untrue that the former first lady had her domestic servants as directors of the NGO.

“We understand that the EFCC is desperate to distract Nigerians from the current massive corruption bedevilling the nation, and as such has embarked on propaganda using the name of the former first Lady. This is callous and must stop.

If the EFCC has such evidence they should present it to the Senate and House of representatives.

“One wonders why the EFCC has repeatedly refused to honour the invitation of the House of Representatives and the Senate, to state their case.”

Kidnapped female corp member rejects redeployment after regaining freedom (photos)

Nwankpa Blessing, the female corp member who was kidnapped few days ago in Nasarawa State where she was deployed to for her Service Year, has finally regained her freedom.

                         

NYSC’s Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, who her the corp member member yesterday said she was rescued in good health. Kazure who gave Blessing words of encouragement, further directed the NYSC Coordinator for Nasarawa State to give her all the necessary support throughout the remaining period of her service.

Blessing who was also offered an  opportunity to relocate, rejected it as she chose to remain in Nasarawa State till the end of her service year.
