Chinese sex doll rental service suspended amid controversy

A Chinese company offering sex dolls for rent has withdrawn its services just days after launching.

Touch had begun offering five different sex doll types for daily or longer-term rent on Thursday in Beijing but quickly drew complaints and criticism.

The company said in a statement on Weibo it "sincerely apologized for the negative impact" of the concept.

But the firm stressed sex was "not vulgar" and said it would keep working towards more people enjoying it.

Touch told the BBC the rental service had operated for two days and had garnered a lot of interest and requests.

"We prepared ten dolls for the trial operation," a company spokesperson said via email, adding that they received very positive feedback from users.

"But it's really hard in China," the firm wrote, saying there had been a lot of controversy with the police over the issue.

The company had offered the sex dolls for a daily fee of 298 yuan (£34; $46), according to Chinese media.

The models on offer were marketed as Chinese, Korean and Russian women, with one also modeled on the movie character Wonder Woman, complete with a sword and shield.

In its Web statement, the firm said its original intention had been to make expensive silicone dolls more affordable but conceded that the service triggered a heated public debate.

The company also said it would pay out compensation to users worth double the amount they had paid as a deposit for reserving a doll.

The statement added that Touch would in future pay more attention to its "social duty", and would actively promote a "healthier and more harmonious sex lifestyle".

Aside from its short-lived rental offering, the firm sells an array of sex toys, including sex dolls.

Uganda court worker suspended for wearing 'short and tight dress'

A court clerk in Uganda has been suspended for wearing " a very short and tight dress" to work, breaching the country's strict dress code for public sector workers.

A journalist has shared a letter addressed to Ms Namuwanga Rosemary informing her of her two-week suspension.

The letter says in part that Ms Namuwanga had gone to the office on Thursday, to follow up on her delayed pay, when she was deemed to have dressed inappropriately.

Earlier this year Uganda's ministry of public service issued dress guidelines to apply to all non-uniformed civil servants.

Female staff were told not to show any cleavage, wear brightly coloured nails, braids or hair extensions, sleeveless or transparent blouses.

And the men had to wear long-sleeved shirts, jackets and ties, while trousers could not be tight-fitting. Anybody failing to abide by these guidelines was to be disciplined.

EFCC Battles Delta State Senator Over Diversion of N1.2bn NEXIM Bank Loan, 1.5bn Contract Fraud

There are indications that Senator Peter Nwaoboshi representing Delta North constituency at the National Assembly has been having a running battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged diversion of a N1.2 billion loan from the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM).

The senator is accused of diverting the loan which was granted for the purchase of electrical equipment to his personal use and repaying only about N150 million three years after taking the loan.
Senator Nwaoboshi who has been summoned by the EFCC for interrogation through the Clerk to the National Assembly, is also being probed for his involvement in an alleged N1.58bn contract fraud.

The senator allegedly signed the N1.58bn contract for the supply of some new construction equipment and trucks to the Delta State Direct Labour Agency in 2010. Documents released by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) however reportedly showed that fairly used trucks were supplied.

Asides the alleged diversion of the NEXIM Bank loan and the contract fraud, the EFCC is also said to be planning to prosecute Senator Nwaoboshi for alleged abuse of office in securing the N1.2bn loan as he was sitting on the Board of Directors of NEXIM Bank at the time the loan was granted.

An EFCC document said: “The loan, which was approved for the senator when he was a member of the bank’s board of directors, was meant for the purchase of equipment and electrical materials but the senator allegedly diverted part of the funds to acquire properties in Lagos.

“Criminal diversion is a serious offence and NEXIM may have to report him to the Central Bank of Nigeria. As a director of the bank, the circumstance of the award of the loan is one that raises fundamental conflict of interest and corporate governance issues.”

The EFCC in April secured a court order for the forfeiture of a 12-storey building belonging to the senator over an alleged contract scam of N1.5bn but the senator has filed two actions before a court in Lagos and a Federal High Court in Asaba, asking that the interim forfeiture order be vacated.

According to The Nation, the Federal High Court Asaba refused the ex-parte application while further hearing is slated for October 3, 4 and 5, 2017.

Besides the cases mentioned above, Senator Nwaoboshi has also been accused of forging assets declaration documents before the Code of Conduct Bureau, where he concealed 46 different accounts to which he was a signatory.

Ghana Beat Niger to Set up WAFU Cup Final Vs Nigeria

It’s going to be a familiar affair in the final of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations as Nigeria home-based Super Eagles will face hosts Ghana after the Black Stars ed
ged Niger Republic 2-0 in the second semi-final on Thursday night.

A goal in either half by Kwame Kizito and Stephen Sarfo secured the win for Ghana against Niger and a place in the final on Sunday in Cape Coast where they take on fierce rivals Nigeria.
Kizito gave them the lead in the 31st minute after heading in a corner, and Sarfo made it 2-0 in the 78th minute by finishing off a cross with a tap-in.

Earlier on Thursday, Nigeria pipped 10-man Benin Republic 1-0 to book a place in the showpiece final, thanks to an 11th minute goal from Kano Pillars’ Rabiu Ali.

It was the second time in a month that the Eagles would be stopping the Squirrels after Salisu Yusuf’s boys edged their West African neighbours 2-1 on aggregates, to book a place in the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The immediate history between both sides favours Nigeria as the home-based Eagles beat Ghana 2-0 when the two finalists met earlier in the tournament in their final Group A game on Monday.

‘Go and Sin No More’- Eniola Badmus Forgives Sophia Momodu After SnapChat Rant

Eniola Badmus has finally forgiven Sophia Momodu, and this comes days after the mother of Davido’s daughter took to SnapChat to body-shame the actress.

It all started when Sophia Momodu took to her page to namedrop the fancy places she bought snacks from, and Eniola asked why she didn’t opt for elite eateries, like “Red Lobster, Olive Garden, or even Apple Bees?

Assuming that to be a diss, Sophia unleashed vitriol on the actress, mocked her body and accused the actress of begging for sex.

Sophia said:

How you gon be salty cause I eat whatever the fuck I want and you can’t hoe. I have wayyy too many responsible people in my life. They won’t let me put this fat, salty hoe in her place. Always talking about people and stay kissing their ass. Fool! Boss ladies don’t beg for love” She said, referencing

Eniola’s comment about ‘boss ladies’, and added, “They don’t beg for dick either. Sit you cellulite ridden ass down and be humble.”

It was that messy.

Seeing that she stepped out of line, and that Eniola was only joking with her, Sophia later retreated and tried to deny that the diss was targeted at the actress.

Well, Eniola ignored her for many days, until today. We assume that mediators have already stepped in to make peace, because the actress, who is a close friend of Davido’s, has taken to her SnapChat to announce that she has forgiven the vocal mum.

Go and sin no more,” she told Sophia.

And all is well again in their paradise.

DSTV’s Market Dominance Threatened as TSTV Introduces Pay-as-You-Use Option

The long reign of DSTV in the Nigerian cable TV space is about to receive a major threat as a new entrant has promised to offer Nigerians the much-touted Pay-as-You-Use option, in place of the monthly subscription that is presently offered.

According to a report, Telcom Satelite TV (TSTV) is offering consumers on their platform the option of paying only for programmes watched, an option that hitherto was not possible.

Managing director of TSTV, Mr Bright Echefu, at the signing of the multi-transponder agreement with their ABS partner, disclosed that the platform is set to offer viewers HD and SD video options, internet services, broadband, TV and radio at very affordable rates. He also noted that TSTV is set to show live English Premier League matches as well as La Liga and Champions League matches.

These are perhaps DSTV’s market edge in the industry at the moment.

TSTV has also promised to cover all the sub-Saharan African countries and provide over 200 TV channels when fully launched, with over 100 of these channels composed of our local stations. The others will be regional and international stations. The platform will feature content in the major Nigerian languages: Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo, as well as the dominant languages of neighbouring West African countries -Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

TSTv is touted to run on 4.5g network. Subscribers will get 20G worth of data for N3,000 monthly and the data can be used for video call, conferences with camera and wifi. The TSTV decoder will have a 50GB hard disk to record TV programs and a pause/play function.

TSTV is partnering with Europe-based television station, ABS Global to offer this content. And the anticipated launch date is October 1.

Industry observers have expressed doubt over the ability of the new platform to deliver its promises after all. This worry comes in the light of the fact that some other TV platforms hitherto offered luring prospects in the past and have not been able to meet up with their promises.

Recall that SES promised free Digital broadcast sometimes back which has not yet seen the light of the day.
The big question really is: is it possible to offer better services to Nigerians at a cheaper cost? Perhaps, TSTV will make a difference. Because, some of us have bought decoders and the providers are no longer in the trade!

9 policemen arrested in Lagos for corruption

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Ag.CP Edgal Imohimi, on Thursday said that the command had arrested nine policemen, one traffic warden and two others over alleged corruption.

Imohimi told newsmen that the arrest was a follow up to his warning to officers and men of his command to guide against corruption and unprofessional conducts.

He said
“In the light of this, operatives of the X-Squad have been out day and night to ensure that this renewed determination is achieved.
“To this effect, nine policemen and a Senior Traffic Warden alongside two of their accomplices popularly known as ‘Camp Boys’ or ‘Antelopes’ were arrested between Sept. 1 and 18, 2017.

LASG asks CP to produce cobbler detained for years

The Office of the Public Defender, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, has asked the state High Court to prevail on the state police command to produce a cobbler, Shakoor Zaid.

Zaid has been in the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command in Ikeja for over two years without being allowed access to his mother and relatives or charged to court.

The OPD, in a suit filed before the Lagos State High Court on behalf of Shakoor sought an order compelling the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, to “unconditionally” admit him to bail.

PUNCH Metro had reported that the 33-year-old was arrested on April 17, 2015, in his residence on Afolabi Alasia Street, Ijora Badia, by SARS operatives who raided the area after a fight. The police accused him of participating in the fight.

In the March 22, 2017, report, Shakoor’s mother, Jumoke Zaid, explained how one Sergeant Godwin Ogedengbe, the Investigating Police Officer, and his colleagues, prevented her from seeing her son.

She alleged that the operatives collected N2,000 from her each time he visited the SARS office in anticipation of speaking with Shakoor.

Jumoke had said,
“Shakoor was arrested inside his apartment. His brother and I went to the SARS office in Ikeja. We met one policeman, Ade, aka Bullet. He said Ogedengbe was investigating the case and that guns and cutlasses were recovered from the scene of the fight. Bullet said somebody told them to waste Shakoor.

“I went there several times, but they didn’t allow me to see him. Relatives of other suspects arrested with Shakoor were allowed to see them. Each time I went there, I paid N2,000 for his feeding. At a point, they stopped collecting money from me.

“On June 26, 2015, the six other persons were arraigned in court. I asked Ogedengbe why my son was not arraigned, but he did not give me any answer. At a point, he started avoiding me. He told me to meet his uncle, Mr. Rilwan Zaid, if I wanted my son to be freed.”
However, the uncle had denied instigating Shakoor’s arrest.

After failed attempts to see her son, the woman said he had petitioned the OPD in 2016 and a lawyer was assigned to handle the case. She, however, said the lawyer was indifferent to the matter.

It was gathered that the OPD invited Jumoke after The PUNCH’s report and another lawyer, O. A. Azeez, was assigned to handle the matter.

Do not compare us to terrorist organization called the Fulani Herdsmen-IPOB

Leader of the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) Uchenna Madu has condemned statement by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, that Fulani herdsmen are criminals while IPOB members are terrorists.

Madu said

“Since Buhari’s media aide will eloquently and comfortably declare that Fulani herdsmen which the United Nations in their official gazette declared as the fourth world deadliest terrorist organization as an innocent group, it shows the high level of Buhari’s plan to forcefully islamize Nigeria.
“It also a proof that Hausa Fulani people are more determined in collaboration with some Judases of Biafra land to intimidate the people of Biafra with fear and jittery.
“MASSOB wish to remind the Arewa people that none of their plans or antics to subject the people of Biafra will ever work because our determination and consistency for Biafra actualization and restoration can never be shaken or derailed.
“Our resolve and consciousness for Biafra actualization and restoration is rooted firmly in the Almighty God ‘Chukwu Okike Abiama’ and our abilities of never say die.

“We still insists that IPOB is not a terrorist organization and can never be compared with world fourth deadliest terrorist organization called Fulani herdsmen”

World's richest woman dies

French businesswoman and billionaire Liliane Bettencourt, whose family founded L'Oreal and still owns the largest stake in the cosmetics giant, has died aged 94, her daughter said on Thursday.

Bettencourt, listed by Forbes as the world's richest woman, was the heiress to the beauty and cosmetics company her father founded a century ago as a maker of hair dye.

Bettencourt and her children owned 33 percent of the company. Her daughter Francoise Bettencourt-Meyers said in a statement the family remained committed to L'Oreal and its management team.

"My mother left peacefully," Bettencourt-Meyers said, adding that she had died during Wednesday night at her home in Paris.

IGP promotes officer allegedly killed by IPOB members

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has conferred a post-humous promotion on late Assistant Superintendent of Police, Cyril Nwosu, who was killed when suspected members of IPOB attacked and burnt down the police post in Ariaria Aba.

Speaking during his visit to Abia state to see things for himself and also assess the security situation in the state after the recent army-IPOB clash, the IGP said:

“Today, I confirm the promotion of the late police officer, Cyril Nwosu, who was yet to be confirmed as a substantive as a ASP.
“We have seen a lot of changes in Abia, the crises experienced in the state in the past few days are events that are not new, where some misguided elements tried to achieve their dreams in a wrong way.
“I believe Nigeria must be stronger, every part of Nigeria has its strength, if will we try to harness this strength together, we are going to make this country far better than we are now”
