US couple could face death penalty over 'premeditated murder' in Bali

An American couple arrested on the
Indonesian resort island of Bali in
connection with the death of the woman’s mother could face charges of premeditated murder carrying a maximum penalty of death, police said on Saturday.

Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend,
Tommy Schaefer, 21, both from Chicago, were arrested in Bali’s Kuta area Wednesday, a day after the body of Sheila von Wiese-Mack was found stuffed inside a suitcase in the trunk of a taxi parked in front of the upscale St Regis Bali Resort in the island’s exclusive Nusa Dua section.

An autopsy on Saturday found that Von Wiese-Mack, 62, died of asphyxiation from a broken nose bone resulting from a blunt blow, said Ida Bagus Putu Alit, head of forensics at Sanglah Hospital in Bali’s provincial capital of Denpasar. She also suffered a broken neck, Alit said.

Mack and Schaefer were charged with murder on Friday. Colonel Djoko Hari Utomo, chief of police for Denpasar, said on Saturday that police had enough evidence to charge them with premeditated murder.

He reiterated that the couple was still refusing to talk to investigators without the presence of American lawyers.

“But that does not hamper our investigation. We have enough evidence, including CCTV and fingerprints,” Utomo said. “And I am inclined to charge them with premeditated murder.”

An FBI agent arrived on Friday to help with the investigation, including on the couple’s possible involvement in criminal activity in the US, Utomo said.

The autopsy found that breaks in Von Wiese-Mack’s neck and nose extended to her upper right and left jaws, causing respiratory disorders, Alit said. It also showed hand wounds suggesting she was trying to fend off an attack.

Ebola: US doctor with Ebola "recovering" fast

An American doctor infected with
Ebola while working in western Africa says he is "recovering in every way" and holding onto the hope of a reunion with his family.

Dr. Kent Brantly remained hospitalized Friday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. His comments came in a statement issued through the Christian aid group Samaritan's Purse.

In the statement, Brantly expresses gratitude for the health care professionals who are treating him with "compassionate, world class care," adding he is "more grateful every day to the Lord for sparing my life."

Brantly and a second American, Nancy Writebol, were flown out of Liberia earlier this month and are being treated in an isolation unit at the Atlanta hospital. The two were infected while working at a missionary clinic outside Liberia's capital.

Ebola Is Not Airborne - W.H.O Opens Up

The World Health Organization (WHO) yesterday reiterated its position that the risk of transmission of Ebola virus disease during air travel remains low.

“Unlike infections such as influenza or tuberculosis, Ebola is not airborne,” says Dr Isabelle Nuttall, Director of WHO Global Capacity Alert and Response in a release on Thursday.

“It can only be transmitted by direct
contact with the body fluids of a person who is sick with the disease.

According to the UN health agency, on the small chance that someone on the plane is sick with Ebola, the likelihood of other passengers and crew having contact with their body fluids is even smaller. Usually when someone is sick with Ebola, they are so unwell that they cannot travel. WHO therefore advised against travel bans to and from affected countries.

“Because the risk of Ebola transmission on airplanes is so low, WHO does not consider air transport hubs at high risk for further spread of Ebola,” says Dr Nuttall.

Nicki Minaj Sued

Nicki Minaj has been hit with a lawsuit for allegedly breaking a contract by cutting a performance short.

The CEO at production company IMP Entertainment filed documents in Manhattan Supreme Court in New York City on Wednesday, claiming the ‘pound the alarm’ hitmaker agreed to play an hour-long set a (NBA) All-Star event in February 2011 alongside Drake and Lil Wayne.

In the contract, nicki was slated to perform for 1 hour at Los Angeles’ Siren Studios, but she allegedly arrived some minutes late, and once on stage, she only played for 30 minutes before leaving the stage.

In the legal documents, obtained by the New York Daily News, Minaj was paid $53,050 to cover her fees and expenses prior to the gig, and her “abbreviated appearance defeated the entire purpose of the agreement.”

IMP Entertainment executives are seeking to recoup the cash and other unspecified damages.

Van Vicker has postponed plans to shoot a movie in Liberia over Ebola fears.

In an interview with OMG Ghana, Vicker said: ‘I have been to Liberia several times to do casting and production meetings, and all was scheduled to go shoot this month, but because of the Ebola threat, I don’t want to take chances shooting in Liberia. I pray though that the good Lord saves us all.’

The Ghanian actor is expected to proceed with the shoot once the virus has been contained. Safety is very neccessary.

The issue of the abducted Chibok girls seems to be dying in Nigeria but it is still much alife in other foreign countries.

At PMAN‘s (Performing Musicians Employee Association of Nigeria) peace pet project tagged Lighting Up The Unity Flame, held earlier in the week at the PMAN office in Opebi, Lagos, Kcee told reporters that he was quizzed about the girls while on tour in America.

Usher who has two sons, Usher Jr., six, and Naviyd, five, with ex-wife Tameka Foster, insists he has no regrets about tying the knot with her in 2007 even though they divorced two years later.

Asked about his best mistake, the 35-year-old star told the September issue of O magazine: ‘Getting married at 28.’

Ebola: 15 of 21 quarantined cleared, Says Minister of Health

Minister of Health, Professor Chukwu Onyebuchi, has said that 15 out of the 21 people quarantined and put under surveillance over Ebola have been cleared.

He said this during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

“15 of the quarantined people in Lagos have been cleared, while the remaining six are still under surveillance.

As of now, we have 11 confirmed cases in Nigeria, out of which three have died. More than half of the remaining eight are responding well to treatment.”
